The Addams Family (2019)

Looks alright. Not sure of the voices but maybe I’m just too used to the Barry Sonnendeld films.

Still would’ve preferred the stop-motion style for this type of animation Tim Burtonwas going to do.

gotta say the voices from what I heard are on point especially Gomez, Morticia and Wednesday cannot wait for this one :)

I want to be excited for this but the animation style they went with is awful.
It just looks cheap and rushed.

Wish it was Stop Motion
Yeah, something felt off about the animation to me. I wasn’t sure if it’s a budget issue or on purpose.

I thought the trailer was ok, not a must see for me but something I'd check out if the chance arose.

It definitely looks to be Illumination level of animation.

This looks great, but the amount of people online complaining that Gomez doesn't look like the live action version and just in general having no clue about the original comic is really getting on my nerves.

Can't really get annoyed about something that didn't get much exposure compared to other versions.

I love the bit at the start about how there’s different types of families. This looks like a cute movie.

It’s funny they made morticia sound so posh?

It's not wacky enough. The humor seems too low key. What was great about the TV show was how bonkers it all was yet the family vibe kept it grounded in a way. Gomez was flat-out crazy but John Astin was so cheerful about it that it seemed pretty benign.

In this version the characters just seem weird, and not in a funny way.

I liked the trailer. I am a bit confused about the complaints on the animation though. Were people expecting something else?

I think it looks like a fun movie. Loved Morticia's line about a murderous clown usually being attached to red balloons.

The gold standard for me is the Sonnenfeld movies. I mean Julia, Huston, Ricci, Lloyd etc are who I envision when I think of these characters. I hope the writing and acting in this is as good.

The humor feels tame. Like they don't quite grasp why the Addams grotesque humor works. These are grotesque characters making jokes, not grotesque jokes. I do like that they seem to be paying homage to the original strips, though there might have been a better compromise to make in the design department related to that.
