Tim Burton's Dark Shadows

I'm disappointed by the trailer. The original was not a comedy at all and Barnabus was a brooding, tragic figure. Like Dukes of Hazzard, 21 Jump Street, etc., this seems to be a "remake" that has nothing to do with the original besides title and character names and just turns it into a goofy comedy.

And Johnny Depp seems incapable anymore of turning himself into a character instead of turning the character into Johnny Depp, and every movie Tim Burton makes is exactly the same. He makes everything "Tim Burton", whether or not it's true to the material at all. Sure Depp gets some laughs, and can say some really bizarre lines with a straight face, but his shtick is always the same, and it's getting old.

I know he can act seriously, because John Dillinger in Public Enemies was a very straight, low-key dramatic role where he was perfectly fine, but it's a rare occasion that he even seems to try anymore.

I caught a few episodes of the original Dark Shadows show a while back & then I saw the trailer for the upcoming movie. It clearly didn't remain 100% pure to the source material. With that being said, I might check it out later or once it's on dvd/blu ray.
