Tim Burton Welcomes Addams Family in 3D
Source: Deadline New York
March 18, 2010

Tim Burton is going to keep his love for stop-motion animation and going...

Coming off the success of Alice in Wonderland for Disney, he's aligning himself with Universal's Illumination Entertainment and producer Chris Meledandri to resurrect The Addams Family.

The goal is to create a stop-motion animated film in 3D, similar to what Burton is doing with Frankenweenie right now. A writer for The Addams Family is currently being sought (the rights were recently purchased so the deal is still fresh) and, according to Deadline, it will hold no relation to the television series or the two feature films starring Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston.

Burton will provide the visual palette for the picture which will invoke creator Charles Addams' original drawings. The director is also developing Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp.

I was like :o :cmad: until I read the stop-motion bit. I'm interested...

Honestly, I wonder what took him so long to get to these characters. Back in the day I thought he directed the first two movies until I started actually reading the credits.

Same here. I was thinking to myself that there is just about no way you could get a more perfect cast than the originals.

This being stop motion it has my attention. I didn't care for Corpse Bride at all but I love Nightmare Before Christmas.

Why? There's not much you can do to top the 90's Addams Family movies. They were perfect. And I'm sure he's going to have Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter play Gomez and Morticia. :whatever:

I still have faith in Burton, but come on. The only two movies he's done in the last decade that were worth a damn were "Big Fish" and "Sweeney Todd". "Alice in Wonderland" has shown that he's become too commercialized. It's like he realized that the Hot Topic crowd eats his stuff up, so he caters to them with stuff to put on t-shirts before telling a good story.

Loved the Addams Family. Stop motion  Dark Shadows

Did you know, although he casts her in every movie of his, Burton always makes Helena Bonham Carter audition? Seems pointless but there...

Anyway, Charles Addams' orginal comic strips are such an obvious influence on Burton that this is almost too perfect. Almost. Because as others have stated, Burton is becoming a brand. Tim Burton's Willy Wonka. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. You don't even need to see the movies to know exactly what they will be like.

Yep. Shell of his former self. :csad:

i had the opposite reaction. i was diggin' the idea of a Burton-eque Adam's Family, until i saw that it was being done stop motion. it's a noble art form, but i don't enjoy it. personally, the flaws that come with the stop motion process detract from enjoying the movie...which is why i have yet to see 'the Fantastic Mr. Fox' or 'Coraline'.

I like'em both, but enough is enough. Burton should work with other good actors.
I agree. I feel the same way about Scorsese and DiCaprio. Lightning can't strike every time.

15 years ago i would've said tim burton is PERFECT for adams family....

not anymore...

3d and stop motion?.. ugh

coraline had perfect stop motion.. it even looked like it was cg at times.... not like mr fox or wallace and gromit

sigh...
Stop motion....really Tim? REALLY??

I'll pass.

I like stop motion, it takes me back to my childhood. Yeah it may not always be smooth as CGI but for me that's part of its charm.

With that being said, I still love the hell out of the original Clash of the Titans and the stop motion in that still doesn't ruin the film for me to this day.

Hmm, I'm kind of the opposite. I loved the original CotT to death when I was younger...but now the stop motion bugs me too much to enjoy the film. I think I might infact be a graphics/special effects ****e now. :(

Don't feel bad, I think most people are getting that way now.

Another copy and paste Tim Burton film. Danny Elfman will do the score, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter will star as Gomez and Morticia, and Burton is just really giving us the same movie since the 80's.

Hey look everyone! There goes Tim Burton's credibility as an 'artist'.

Oh Burton, how the mighty have fallen.

Coraline's was better than those 2, but it wasn't perfect by any means. hair and clothes would jump from time to time and there were several parts where the frame rate was inconsistent (sometimes the animations looked choppier than other times).

i loved stop motion back when i was 8 or 9, but since Jurassic Park came out i haven't looked back.
