This is baloney. They haven't dubbed Michael Chiklis or any of the other members of the cast. Other actors don't have to dub their roles. Doug has done a fabulous voice as the Surfer, and he's more than earned the right.

Hey he has the pedigree.....?????? BUT those 2 voices kind of have the same flavor to them......not sure how he would do as SS since I'm not really sure how the SS would sound....."otherworldly" just doesnt' give me a whole lot to work with....lol

Face it, Doug fans, if Story is asking, then Doug's voice most likely wasn't good enough. It doesn't matter if it's Story who didn't like or the Fox suits. Someone with enough power to nix Doug's work, nixed it. DONE. FIN.

Now they are asking for our input. Now is a great chance for us to shape this movie, in some small way. So lets stop moaning about Doug not doing the voice, and starting using those brain cells to figure out a good voice for the Surfer.

Think of movies you have seen recently, and how they would sound as the Surfer.

I'm having a hard time thinking of one. Val Kilmer has a nice deep voice that he can change for different roles. How about the guy who played the King in "Return of The King"? Viggo Mortenson(sp?)
I would think people like Frank Oz or James Earl Jones would be unacceptable because they are too reconizable.

I think people need to calm down....

I have a feeling this was simply a subject area that was pretty low key (except here....lol)....Tim could comment on it....and ask some fan input....honestly the decision has probably already been made.....and the choice is probably Doug....but it was simply a chance for Tim to do some interacting with the fans....

If there is a voice actor out there that can slam the voice out of the park, then of course go with that actor.....if Doug can do that.....then of course you go with Doug....as far as I'm concerned it has nothing to do with "who did the physical portion of this character"....it has to do with the best for the voice....if Doug is indeed the best for the voice....then they should look no further......it doesn't matter my opinion of Doug's voice, or any others.....it depends on what the powers that be want as the SS's voice....if Doug has it....cool.......give it to the boy! If not, it looks like Doug is professional enough to realize they chose what they felt would be the best for the movie. They are the ones that are actually hearing the voices as they are portraying SS, we don't have that luxury...so I'm sorry....but I don't take this question from Tim very seriously....as "wow, he's going to go with what we say..." But hey it makes for interesting discussion....

I *hope* that's the case. I love it when Chiklis does his Thing voice, dead on. It's amazing, and let's you connect with the character/actor more. I'd *like* to have the same experience with Doug and the Silver Surfer.
I guess I'm just worried this thread will turn into a big "We want Doug's voice thread" and will be ignored by Story, because Doug's voice has probably already been nixed. I'd rather the thread be filled with cool alternative voices. That excludes Kermit the Frog.

How about Scott Speedman? He played the Wolf/Vampire hybrid in Underworld. As I remember, he had a pretty cool voice for that character.

When it comes to voices for comic charactors, we all have our ideas of what a charactor would sound like. So what's the big deal about Jones doing the voice ? They would have to pay someone to do the voice, and Jones is allready under contract. Sounds like a no brainer to me. But as Retro said, we are talking Fox here. And when Fox is involved, there is no shortage of no brains.

Okay, so if it could be anyone - who would be the voice of the Surfer? And don't be obvious. The person/voice can't be too recognizable or it will take you out of the movie.

Story said it himself in his blog, that the voice can not be reconizable. Beleive me this movie will have plenty of drawing power, without some big name actor that they would have to pay a lot of money to. Now for the voice of Galacuts, that may be a different story. Wounder if James Earl Jones would be available ?

Hmmm.... then I guess that probably means he is really asking for help. Especially if it needs to be someone lesser known... I am not too good with choosing voices personally, but I am still fine with Doug doing it if he is as good as people have said he is. It does seem silly to opt for someone else if he is doing an adequate enough job of it.
