Rise of the Silver Surfer Tim Story Gives Fantastic Four 2 Update

Has he ever actually had a speaking role in a film? I'd like to check it out anyway.

Julian get knocked constantly on this board about his voice and I think it's just fine myself.

Doug has just done the voice of Abe Sapien in the two new HELLBOY ANIMATED movies, will voice Abe in the video game, and will voice Abe in HELLBOY II. He has a 20-year career in film and yes, he's had plenty of speaking roles. If you get a chance to see the episode Blood Hungry in the TV series Criminal Minds in which he plays a freaked-out meth addict, you'll see how bloody good he is.

He is also an accomplished singer with a very pleasant and true baritone.

Doug has done the job beautifully, and worked incredibly hard to bring the Surfer to life. He loves and cares about the character, and has created a voice that was received very well by all that heard it, including Tim and the rest of the cast and crew. At present he has certainly not been 'nixed,' So I'm smelling Studio Suits all over this.

I can't say any more than that, obviously, as these boards are monitored, so I shall now keep schtum and see what happens.

Here's my choices in order:

1) Doug Jones (give it to him)
2) John Malkovich
3) Peter Sarsgaard

Face it, Doug fans, if Story is asking, then Doug's voice most likely wasn't good enough. It doesn't matter if it's Story who didn't like or the Fox suits. Someone with enough power to nix Doug's work, nixed it. DONE. FIN.

Has eveyone seen the footage from Star Wars where David Prowse is saying the Darth Vader lines?
Hilarious.
It makes it even more hilarious that he was upset they didn't use his voice.
Clueless,lol.

Doug Jones isn't David Prowse though. You can't just take an event from 30 years ago and just paste it over this one as if all things are the same.

Edit: Also just because Tim is asking doesn't mean Doug has been ruled out. That's absurd. Fox is being safe as is Tim. Of course they want to get everyone brainstorming if there's someone better out there to do the voice. The voice is very important in the characterization of the Silver Surfer.

Edit 2: Just put up a bulletin on myspace regarding this. If the link doesn't work for you and you're a member of myspace...then here's what is says...

Tim Story just posted a blog asking for suggestions as to who should voice the role of the Silver Surfer in the movie sequel to The Fantastic Four. If you're not familiar with Doug Jones...well look at the top row of my friends list and check it out! He is the Silver Surfer and he should be voicing it as well. Period. Add Tim Story to your friends list and post in his blog below to support Doug. Thanks.

I like the idea of Peter Weller...

Does anybody have a video interview or something so that I can hear what Doug Jones sounds like?

I think the voice should sound hollow/robotic/metallic, couldn't they do that to just about anyone's voice? As long as they could convey the proper emotions and influctions.

Interesting ... is it my imagination or has that particular blog entry been removed?

I have absolutely nothing against Doug, he seems like a really great guy, but I really have to say something. This board seems to be taken over more and more every day by people pushing all of us into going on crusades for Doug. I have enjoyed his performance as SS from what I have seen, and as I say he seems like a really great guy, but I resent being begged to get someone voice acting work who I have never heard do the voice. If he really is as good as everyone is saying he is then he should need no help from us to get the gig.

And John, I have emailed you several times about supporting Doug with this project and I have also tried contacting Doug and never had any response. *shrugs*

Again, I really hope Doug gets the part, and I wish him the best of luck. (I have been nothing but positive about Doug since the start of his involvement, so I really hope this isn't taken as a personal attack or rabid negative fan-rant).

My thoughts exactly.

We haven't heard Doug Jones' performance.
For all we know, we could all be petitioning for something that's wrong for the film. I understand that some close to the set have said he sounds great, but I can't imagine them saying anything else.
Obviously everyone told Julian McMahon that he sounded great saying "Marco polo" and look how that turned out. The unaltered voice coming from behind Doom's mask at the end of FF2 is that film's weakest element, in my view.

I just want the Silver Surfer to sound like the Silver Surfer.

All the best to Doug, but his career is a far more distant concern to me.

Unless someone can come up with a sample of his performance, I'm gonna leave this matter to Tim Story and Fox and I encourage other FF fans to do likewise.

Wow, the blog was removed. Curious. Anyway, just to be a little different than everyone else, what if the blog wasn't really about the SS voice but that was the easiest character for Tim to use without mentioning the big G himself. Just a thought.

I just checked and I didn't see it either. Chances are Story didn't have Fox's permission to post that and was told to take it down. Maybe this is Story's subtle way of warning us that the suits are being stupid again.

As he knew it would be the instant he put it up. He probably couldn't just come out and say, "Hey! Guess what? The suits are being a bunch of doody heads and want me to come up with some alternatives for the Silver Surfer's voice." So, instead, he did what he could.

>^^<

Tim does that with a % of his blogs. They'll pop up and then vanish. You know the guy's on the side of the fans either way. I guess Fox doesn't want to appear like they're not in control of the film...or are too embarassed to ask for the fan's help. Type to e-mail Rothman again along with that X4 e-mail.

Someone should just add a poll to this thread that says:

Do you want Doug Jones to Voice the Surfer.

1) Yes
2) No

It's a moot point, as the blog has been removed, and about time too. There is something so patently unprofessional about a director touting something that is a matter between a studio and an actor (its called a contract) about in a public forum as though it is an amateur dramatics project at a local high school. It is also not only unprofessional, but thoroughly thoughtless. If this had been done to Michael, Chris, Ioan or Jessica there would have been outrage and quite rightly so.

Now the blog has gone, let's get on with anticipating what we will see - and hear - on the screen in June.
