Anyone reading Timestorm? Would be an interesting vehicle for integrating the 616 and Ultimate universes...but won't happen.

It's basically a crossover of the 616 and the 2099 universes. Something in the present Marvel Universe has altered the future, causing the 2099-verse to be altered. It's supposed to feature the return of Spidey 2099 and several other characters from the 2099 verse. I got the first issue a couple of weeks ago.

It's a little hard to follow right now, as they haven't started explaining anything, but it looks like Tyler Stone, head of Alchemax is trying to intentionally alter the future to his own ends. It's pretty solid so far, though.

Crossing 616 with Ultimate!? HELL NO!:angry: :nono:
It's bad enough that that alternate universe is alive, having it enter contact with 616 could cause a Crisis in which the 616 could be no more, and its replaced with the 1337 :abom: that is the Ultimate Universe...

Maybe Marvel will follow DC's path and we'll have crisis on infinite Earths. I'd like to get rid of the Ultimate universe too, but as long as Marvel moves Ultimate titles, it's not going anywhere.

I don't think they'll do i crisis type thing any time soon. isn't Ultimate Nick Fury in another universe right now? I don't really follow the ultimate universe. I wouldn't mind if there was a crossover or something between 616 and ultimate, but doubt they'd ever collapse the two universes into one. especially since Quesada rags on DC so much about stuff like that.

The Ultimate universe is the only one getting my money right now . . .

Ah! This series is great. If you were a fan of SPIDER-MAN 2099 you'll love this. Don't be put off by the face it's it's "own" continuity - it's pretty much an Ultimized version of the 2009 universe with many/most of the characters you enjoyed, just tweaked or made younger - same deal as the Ultimate U. Fan.

But....they changed everything...The point of Miguel is that he's the opposite of Peter! So why did Reed make him a teenager? Peter=teen Miguel=adult He changed the entire origin right? I only bought the spider-man timestorm special which I haven't read yet, but whew. This is not Spider-Man 2099.

I've picked it up, but yet to read it...

The way I hear it, the original Miguel O'Hara was in the old Exiles book, and found happiness in another universe, so this "new" Spider-Man 2099 is in fact, "new".

:huh: :huh: :huh:

:yay:

I too am not a fan of them rebooting the 2099 universe.
So now there's 4 different 2099 universes

* The Original Universe (aka Earth-928)
* Marvel Knights 2099 Universe (aka Earth-2992)
* The Exiles Branched 2099 Universe
* Timestorm 2099 Universe

Oy :ninja:

I hate to say it, but I think I may drop this title. This mini is confusing as hell, and, on top of that, they're rebooting a series that was cancelled well over a decade ago. Honestly, I would have preferred they just pick up and begin telling Spidey 2099 stories again, without changing the character's origins, core, and supporting cast.
:csad:

I think the updates are 'cause the 2099 'verse was built on a lotta facts that ain't facts no more, thanks to retcons.

What?! But Joe Q. said that OMD ONLY affected the marriage and nothing else? Also, are you inferring that the past 30 time-travelling X-Men arcs have changed the future completely?! How could that be.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe that comics could ever be so careless as to retcon things so carelessly or so often! It's foolish! FOOLISH I SAY!!!

Man, that sucks. I'm totally used to retcons, now, though.

Whoa....my post just got retconned! Let's see what else has changed!!!

*looks out window and sees V8 musclecars everywhere, and looks in wallet to find nothing but a stack or hundreds and a bank statement with 12 zeros behind a 50 as the balance*

Suh-WEET! Retcons rule!!!:woot:

I agree the series is a little confusing so I may be off on my facts here, but a recent issue suggested that there was some sort of dark period in time (following the end of the age of heroes) where little history was recorded, hence they are not sure if it really is the year 2099 or not. To me what this says is that due to the alterations in history, it is probably really 2089 or such (of what the original 2099 was) but they don't know that. Miguel's dad is around, adults we knew are teenagers... it makes sense. The ripple of alterations has also set off a lot of stuff happening at this point instead of later on, hence we get teenage Miguel as Spider-Man and Kron as Scorpion. Etcetera...

That's kind of true...Except that Claremont wrote the characterization of Miguel so poorly (and so much like Peter) that it was retconned to being an alternate earth 2099. So the original Miguel is still on his world.

I guess I just don't agree with Brian Reed's approach to reintroducing 2099 at all then. If you're trying to reintroduce an idea that's already sort of a stretch (superheroes living in an alternate 2099 future) why would you convelute the story and change everything? I agree, sending a character into the future is a cool idea...But i just don't like the execution here.

I also don't understand why they changed it so much. I read it and it appears that they've basically made Miguel's origin into a copy of Peter's...but more EXTREME.

The only thing that needed to be updated about the 2099 idea was the world of 2099. The characters should have been left alone. Take the perspective of 2099 from a 20th century one, to a 21st century one. So basically, add some stuff about global warming and some iPods.
