TMNT Review Thread

I just saw the 10:10 showing of this movie I wont go into length but I was pleased i think its a 7.5/10. My main gripe definitely has to be April involvement when they were going up against the horde of Foot ninja and the lack of significant screen time for Donny, Casey, or April due to the short length of the movie. Still for me TMNT(2007) >>> TMNT 2 & TMNT 3

One personal thing I never mentioned in my review --

Something I loved most about how the TMNT were portrayed in this film was how truly intimidating they could be. Leo in the jungle, Raph vs. Leo... I was seriously convinced that these guys are lethal NINJA assassins who could kill someone as easily as blink, if it suited them.

CG lets you really take it to the next level of the imagination. This is exactly the way I want to see the turtles portrayed. They're f***ing ninjas, man. They could kill you with a their minds.

Well I saw the 9:20 last night, pretty descent crowd, our theater actually had a lot of cool TMNT stuff up everywhere, they made sheel covers for all the cash registers, and the two big doors you open to go into the theater TMNT was playing on had a huge TMNT Sewer Logo on it...but now to my review.

After reading reviews for this movie on here, I was thinking I was getting a perfet 10 movie. what I got was a solid 9.0 movie. I think I built it up too much in my head and was let down just a little. But as the movie started I had a smile on my face, and it had nothing to do with the Nacho's I had, I was just happy to be seeing a new TMNT movie in freakin 2007.

The graphics as most have said, are the best CG I've ever laid my eyes on. Esp the Ralph/Leo fight with the rain. Amazing. The storyline was pretty solid. I just miss Mikie and Don making a few more jokes, if they had done that and threw in a couple of cowabunga's I would've been more pleased. I'm not saying as many as the movie in 90, just one or two.

I liked that Sherd-Head wasnt the main villian in this one, cause I'm so ready for the 2nd one to be made with him making a huge comeback, cant wait to see the fight they'll come up with.

Overall I'm 100% happy with this movie. I will be buying the DVD first day. I really hope they make the second one. Third One. Fourth One.....

The voices I thought were really good. Out of the group that went with me, we all liked all the voices, but my wife wanted to know why Ralph sounds like a 42 year old smoker. Needless to say I Ninja Kicked Here and I'm filing the divroce papers tomorrow.

TMNT was a great movie...but, I gotta say, the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie IS the best movie ever made about the turtles...at least it was better than 2 and 3 though...can't wait for TMNT II, I so wanna see Shredder.

no no no it's greater than 3-hell a ******ed third grader could write a better script. But it is NOT better than 2. Come on whats better than ninja rap and super shredder!!!!!!:ninja:

Don't ever say that again.

I watched to TMNT 2 before I went to see the new one, I watch the 1st movie all the time so I didnt have to get reacquainted. From the opening moments I already regretted it. TMNT 2 is ridiculously cheesy(sound effects, Tokka & Razah, etc) , totally toned down for kids, tries to be more light hearted and humorous and fails, and the whole dance scene and Ninja Rap :whatever:. The new movie is easily an improvement on the last two installments Munroe would have to try really hard to make a move worse than 2 &3.

1 is a good movie, not great but it could've been worse, plus the fights were cool.
2 is a decent film it takes more from the cartoon but the mutants and super shredder were cool.
3 is what my dog just left in the front yard

This one easily trumps them all IMO even the first one, but that's my opinion and I know others will differ and I can understand but I'm a 90s kid the new one is cooler.

I must disagree with you all who say mikey and donnie didn't have screen time. Yes, mikey's fight scenes were cut down. But I think the director said something about nun-chucks being outlawed somewere.

But They did have some great moments. There was, Donnie's tech support. Cowabunga Carl...XD. Mikey and the sewer pipe. Mikey and Donnie with the running joke of jet packs.

Donnie: "I dont even trust you with a driver liscence! have you seen this guy drive!" LOL!

The mom joke. Classic. Mikey burping. Lol, so immature but wonderful and my favorite was when winters got thrown across the room by his brothers.

April: WINTERS!
Mikey: More like FALL, get it?!
Donnie: Mikey remember our talk.

I diead laughing. I love THOSE guys! :D

But Mike's best joke was at the end with the Cowabunga Carl head.

Nun chucks are considered one of the most dead weapons in he UK I guess, look up TMNT one wiki and it talks about it.

oh yeah...the cowabunga cral head. forgot about that. lol, oh mikey. :D

I thoroughly enjoyed it although I did have a problem with a plothole about the monsters just appearing. They've been on earth for 3000 years, I'm sure they would've been seen before the 3000 year anniversary. If they were reminiscent of the fairy tale monsters (Dracula, Wolfman, Phoenix, etc) then I might be a little forgiving.

I just saw the new TMNT movie. It was the most fun I've had in a long time. TMNT was in a word, awesome, despite what you read from the critics -- and I'll briefly give my theory on why there were so many awful reviews.

WHY THE CRITICS DIDN'T LIKE IT
The majority of the professional reviewers out there are disappointed that the movie is not in the spirit of the old silly cartoon. The movie is actually more in the spirit of the original, darker TMNT comics, but most reviewers are painfully ignorant of the other TMNT incarnations. Most refuse to go in with fresh eyes; they only compare the new movie to the old ones, which to me is a narrow-minded (incorrect) way of judging any film. Others assumed the movie was nothing but a cheap money-making shot, which I know to be false because I've seen/heard the direct talk about TMNT. This movie was made by a "hardcore" fan, for all fans of the ninja turtles. He didn't want money. He wanted to make a good TMNT movie.

The majority of critics who don't spend their time whining that they didn't see the goofy Bebop and Rocksteady or thoughtlessly concluding that this was all about money criticized the absurdity and technical "shortcomings" of the movie. Now, when I say awful reviews, I don't just mean negative. I mean they didn't convince me one way or the other of their reasons for hating the film. It's almost like, no matter what, the review was at a loss of what to say and

The reason is that in film analysis, the writer needs to rely a lot on cliches to get his or her point across -- this isn't "bad," it's just understandable. The point is for the reviewer to present his or her impression of the film in accessible terms. Unfortunately, TMNT makes itself difficult to define. As one of my friends who saw the film mentioned, it is almost impossible to pull out how the film fit together, because technically the director did many things "the wrong way."

WHY MOST VIEWERS LOVED IT
But somehow, the wrong way ends up being the right way with this film. Much like the comics, TMNT's story progression is unorthodox, and technically wrong. But that's how it works. It's frustrating to analyze. No wonder there were so many negative reviews. The most honest review I've read, actually, states that TMNT is "Totally out of its freaking mind." I strongly disagree with the man's verdict that TMNT was therefore not an enjoyable film. In fact, part of what amused me most about the film, what most likely left the biggest smile on my face that lasted for hours was that I it surprised me in a very good way. I thought it would be okay at best. It was blown away at the end by how awesome it was as a whole. (I understand that not everyone thought it was super-dee-duper awesome, but the point is, you WILL be surprised.)

The humor is, in my opinion, as enjoyable as in the first film, though not as prolific, and not as goofy overall. (for me personally, that makes the film easier to watch) Visually, the film holds fairly well. Certainly worth checking out if you're interested in animation. It doesn't give us anything new, technically... but it does show off what can be done with today's technology. The action is the best I've seen in any TMNT movie. Especially the duel between Leonardo and Raphael. This is one of the more powerful movie fights I've seen in recent years, not just in animated movies.

WHY YOU SHOULD GO SEE IT
The director Kevin Munroe, a lifelong fan of the Ninja Turtles, had to work very hard to bring back the turtles in an honorable form. I'm truly impressed with what he managed to give us considering who and what he had to work with. The movie is strong, despite itself -- and I'm not just saying that out of cliche. It's true.

It's also true that I didn't have a lot of faith that I'd like this movie so much. Despite being a part-time ninja turtle fan, I was extremely critical of the first-time director, the low budget, the time spent to make the film, the outlandish premise, the reviews, and even the online clips. But now I strongly want this movie to succeed, because when the credits started rolling, the first thing I could think of was how much I wanted to see the more of this.

TMNT needs to gross at least 100 million dollars at the domestic box office to receive the green light for part two. Sadly, this movie, which didn't have much support to begin with, had little time to advertise itself to the general public. The reviews certainly are not helping.

Do you want to have a great time at the movies? Do you want to swim in your nostalgia for the turtles, but at the same time want to see something new? Do you especially like being pleasantly surprised? Then go see TMNT in theaters.

Cowabunga.

I agree with you on the point that most critics are still basing their review of TMNT on the old series, for example I checked out Roper and fill in *****e as usually Roper slimes whatever he feels doesn't meet his smart movie requirements he rips it whining about he never understood why they were popular etc.. He admits he doesn't know anything about their history and calls them dopey I respect other people opinion but here's the thing for me if you don't know anything about the subject either don't review it or add snotty comments because it shows me how much of a ass you are. As for critics I think most people stop caring what most movie reviewers have to say, if people cared about what critics said 300 wouldn't be on the roll its on for the past couple of weeks. Plus word of mouth is more powerful than some thumbs up or down, some critics didn't like Night of the Living Dead yet there are three sequels and theree remakes (2 NOFTLD and Dawn of the Dead) out there. I think general verdict about TMNT among most people is good. And I can see this movie being number one again next weekend or a solid number two behind Blades of Glory cuz I don't see the appeal for "Meet the Robertsons" for me it look like one of those movies Disney just throw out there and pray its makes money there's ads for it but I didn't hear the buzz that was with "Cars", The Incredibies sp or the Toy Story movies when they was coming out.

As for TMNT it self I think Munroe did a bang up job getting the series back on it's feet, because dude could made it cheesy to appeal only to little kids just for a quick buck, dude made a movie that appeal to the older Ninja Turtles fans and the new ones from the 03 re-launch. I thought the CG was better than most non Disney CG movies, the action scenes to how the turtles look were top notch and the voice acting was tight. I agree with everyone on the point that I wished Don and Mikey got some more screen time because they're also important to the team and they add more. And my personal opinion I think TMNT is one of those few comic book to movies that got it right. And finally can someone tell Roper TMNT were around since the mid 1980s and had a fan base before they blew up in the late 80s to mid 90s.

Thought movie rocked 8.5/10 because donnie and mike got over shadowed, Karai wasn't as menacing as she could have been but she was still cool, and IT NEEDED TO BE LONGER atleast spiderman 2 length. The fights were great and it was cool to see the turtles and foot move in gracefull ninja fashion. The family angle really worked well for me and really showed what the turtles are about.

Hmmmm. Well i saw it tonight and it's all right, not really great, just wasn't what it could have been, and i mean by a looong shot. The story was way too shallow, seemed just like a really long episode, which by the way is not what a movie is or should be. The build up to the final fight was weak, and the final fight was just kind of weightless and forgetable. And whats with the foot just falling over and getting mowed down? There was not decernable villian, which makes for a bad superhero film right there, it wasn't the monsters(barely saw them), wasn't Winters, and you cant really count the stone generals because they just came in at the end. Also they almost forgot about Don and Mike, which is just plain irresponsible. If this had been on tv on Saturday morning it would have rocked! good fluffy action, some comedy and a little dark drama. However with no villian, no strong plot, half the turtles actually being used, and the turtles virtual steroidally unbelievable boost in strength(ok, they can't beat super shredder but they can mow down foot and kick the snot out of ten foot monsters?) It just wasn't what a real turtles movie should have been, especially after 15 years.
Oh and this movie does roughly follow the storyline of the first 2 so that should be accounted for in the continuity of their abilities, CGI or live action.

BOTTOM LINE- I was entertained but by no means satisfied.

Saw it, loved it.

I think it was an incredibly smart move to position the plot of this movie so It could be seen as a sequel to either the 3 movies OR the 2003 animated series (forgetting the terrible fast forward season.), By referencing both, setting it after the destruction of Shredder, and not over-complicating matters by trying to explain what had happened previously, it can appeal to older and younger fans alike.

I'd also like to add, It's a shame there are so many people out there around my age and slightly younger who became fans of the original 80's cartoon, and were never aware of, or never bothered getting into the original Mirage incarnation of the Turtles. They missed out.

I can only hope that their teary-eyed nostalgia over a cartoon, which, in all fairness, simplified and kiddified the source material to patronising levels (but hey, it was the 80's - thats what pretty much EVERY cartoon was like back then...) doesn't blind them into not giving the newer, more faithful, renditions in this movie a chance.

i was a huge tmnt fan when i was a kid, and i really enjoyed this film. yeah it wasn't perfect, but it was way better than any of the past films. sure they hold sentimental value with me, but looking at them from a film perspective, this one just nailed it. beautiful shots, and tmnt fighting the way i always dreamed they would. considering it was made on a 30 million dollar budget, the cg was great. i can't wait for a sequel. 8/10 from me.

I have yet to see this movie, but I would like to point out something: This could be a way to reinvent the series. How? Well, simple: TMNT has them dealing with the monsters, TMNT II could have Oroku Saki approach the Turtles to form an alliance to stop a major problem. Then Splinter tells them who Saki was, and their past. Finally, you get the Shredder in all his glory, along with some minor baddies along the way.

The thing is that once you see the movie you realize that the prior movies are in the same continuity...so technically considering the climax of the 1990 film, the Turtles already know about The Shredder and his past with Splinter. The turtles and Shredder already have a history by the time TMNT starts.

I liked the movie, but I am confused about something. Who was the monster that Rapahel fought in the diner? It looked too small to be the same last monster that was chasing April in the van (did it suddenly grow?)

No they were different monsters that one was the 12th monster later seen in one of the cages.

I find it ironic that some critics say its too violent, when the original comic was maybe as dark as Sincity. Um, hey critics, dark violence was the original intention for the turtles, so ****.

I think the movie movie could've been a lot better if it had been longer. The movie surprisingly got everything out withing its 1:22 time frame. A time frame around how long the incredibles was probably would've been better.

Ps: the movie owned on every level.
