TMNT Review Thread

as of right now, my favorite thing ninja turtle. including all tv shows and previous movies. had a taste of everything, and was top notch. i loved how it was alot of back story and didnt have to do the whole, turtles meet April..back story....and blah blah blah, we know all that, right to the action. very well done, and cant wait for the next one.

So I finally watched the Movie and have to say that overall I really enjoyed it. Though there were some parts I disliked.

- Don and Mike felt like background characters.
- Splinter's voice and design.
- Karai being just a hired gun, needed more involvement.
- April actually being able to knock Karai around. Same for Casey handling the Foot with ease. Ah hell, I almost disliked the entire fight against the Foot. It was just way too easy.

Aside from the points listed, there isn't much too complain about.

I just saw it again and I was still wowed, I thought Donny and Mike got enough screen time but the story revolved around Leo and Raph so they SHOULD have more. And the complaints about April are worthless. she doesn't do anything spectacular in the fight, she blocks a foot ninja then runs away...wow. You guys made it sound like she was frikken Bruce lee. She held off a foot ninja then ran from Karai. So yeah I thought it was even better the second time.

You should watch it one more time. Sure, the fight was only a couple of seconds long, but she didn't just block a foot ninja. She blocked, countered and kicked freaking Karai.

She was a freaking newsreporter that trained martial arts for a couple of years, yet she easily fends off Karai like nothing.

I honestly didn't see that, I saw Karai go for a kick then April ducked and ran away.

I liked the movie, but I am confused about something. Who was the monster that Rapahel fought in the diner? It looked too small to be the same last monster that was chasing April in the van (did it suddenly grow?)

I also thought that was a mistake at first too. After Raph fought the little monster (who was The Jersey Devil, BTW), I assumed that the little guy would be the last missing 13th monster. It was the big rhino-type monster instead.

I would have liked a better look at some of the monsters, since the action was so chaotic and the editing was kind of jumpy in parts.

I did enjoy the movie overall, however. My biggest real compliant was the character designs for the human characters. They looked too much like Francisco Herrera comic art for my tastes.

some woman saw fit to leave her colicy baby in the care of her 4 year old son while she left the theater so perhaps I missed it but was there any explanation given as to why no one had heard of these monsters for 3000 years? or why it took Winters so long to assemble his Generals? or how he was able to restore them to life?

Non at all, that too would probably go on my list of things that were wrong with the movie.

The 13 monsters destroyed an entire civilisation only to dissapear and suddeny reappear out of nowhere. Apparently Winter's just wasn't able to take care of his generals and probably lost them, it took him 3000 years to find them again.... And he just magically invented a dohickey that made them walk again.

The monsters only show up when the stars/planets are almost aligned
Winters traveled the earth and its a pretty big place, and he found 3/4 of them already. Just that last one.
Years of studying how to break his curse opened him up to the world of magic and helped it find a way to make the mobile.

Yep my explanations are pretty amazing. ;)

I saw this today, and just have to say I thought it eons better than any of the old films, first movie included. My interpretation of the 13 monsters is that they were the stuff of urban legends. The big gorilla being the Yeti, the little red guy the Jersey Devil, ect. They've been around in our world for ages, albeit in different countries/lands, etc. Those stars aligning was like a beacon that called them to New York. 30 minutes to an hour more would have been great to explain them.

Nonetheless, I loved it and plan on seeing it again.

Anyone else wish there was a April/Leo makeout fest in the underground cave?

I've been a huge TMNT fan for years and my love for it is only overshadowed by Star Wars and Spider-man.I've watched all three previous movies, both the old and newer series and even own a few of the original comics.I'm well versed in Ninja Turtles history.Having said that I loved this movie. It had great fight sceens, good humor and more importantly it had emotion behid itThe story was a little weak but I still give it a 8/10.Only behid the original as far as Ninja Turtles movies go.

I find it ironic that some critics say its too violent, when the original comic was maybe as dark as Sincity. Um, hey critics, dark violence was the original intention for the turtles, so ****.

My thoughts exactly. Although I thought the movie was okay, most of the public(everyone) seems to forget where these turtles came from. Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman originally intended for the TMNT to be a dark, gritty, political and social allegory. That's where the franchise should be brought back to, in my opinion.

To be honest, I was really excited for this movie and it was a huge letdown. It really hurts myself to say this but it's the truth (to me): the movie sucked. Two big reasons... the story was pretty much awful, and the biggest, CGI. I thought the CGI sucked. I can't stand CGI. Anytime they make a movie in CGI it's like a cheat and to make the whole movie in CGI made me feel like nothing that happened counted. Hard to explain
but yeah, disappointed

The movie was ok. First movie is better. 6/10

First thing to come to my mind was Alien:p

I saw it today, and I loved it. It was basically a Pixar movie but way better. But it really reminded me of that, just cooler, that's for sure.

That first shot of Leo with the white eyes was wicked.

Nice shot of Shredder in the prologue too.

Loved seeing Splinter fight, it was like seeing Yoda fight for the first time in Attack of the Clones, even though I've seen him in action in the cartoon I just haven't seen those in a long time.

I was just thinking back on the film and I really liked it, can't wait for a sequel, hope there's one, and with you know who as a villian, I wonder if that chick will turn out to be his daughter.

I liked the Casey Jones line:" Two points for high sticking. " Like when he fought Raph in the 1st TMNT movie. :word:

Nah, not really. But I wouldn't have anything against a April/Karai makeout fest in the Turtle love van. :o

The film ends with all the pieces still in place for a better sequal, with Karai (who is Shredder's adopted daughter, a key detail left absent here).
Only in the cartoon:the original Karai from the Mirage comics had no relation to The Shredder other than being a fellow member of the Foot Clan--heck, I think she even outranked Saki. While the movies could choose to follow the cartoons (which I don't personally think will happen, given that they don't acknowledge it at all here), they're not out of line if they chose not to.

In any case, good movie, and easily the best in the series. Every character was spot on (althought I probably would have gone with different VA's for Splinter and Karai).

I dug it the beginning is a little boring, the lines are a bit cheezy, and a little forced at time... But the action was awesome and the heart-felt moments between the brothers was great! As for the story, I really dug it, I thought it flow nicely after you got through the first 30 minutes. I thought the fight scene between Raph and Leo was f'ing awesome, I love master splinter. But the fact that April was fighting I thought was lame, I mean I always though Casey was lame since he's not a ninja but I could buy it but April, wtf!

I was pretty luke warm towards this film. I thought it had a good shot, what with all the promising previews, but frankly, too little worked for me to honestly like it.

I'll start with the good. Easily it was the best scene was the Raph-Leo confrontation. The whole film was building to this, but even then, some dialogue felt really forced. Hell, I'm amazed Leo didnt realize it was Raph. The line "I'm better than you!" was so forced and totally out of character. The family stuff was good overall though, the voices fit just about everyone (I hated Mako's Splinter though) and the characters, for the most part, were accurate. Some great aesthetic shots as well.

The Bad however utterly outways the bad. The plot itself was really bad. And the one liners. Oh god the one-liners. They never freaking stopped. Plus the human designs were ass (but what else could I expect from Jeff Matsuda). I could spent a great deal stating what was wrong with this movie, but I wont. I can understand not wanting to include Shredder for something new, but this plot... it just didnt fit. Just too generic to make me care.

Overall, I'd give it a 4/10. One great scene does not a movie make.
