TMOS Review & Speculation Thread

I noticed that the Man of Steel trailers have more likes/less dislikes than TASM trailers (and they both have a similar number of views). I loved TASM, but this seems like a good sign - about the GA's anticipation.

It's a good sign. However, TASM killed it overseas. That's what got it past the 700M hump. I'm not sure if MOS will be able to do the same, but I do hope so. Fingers crossed. Anything over 500-600M and a sequel is in the bank. Anything over 700M might kickstart JL. Here's to hoping! I bought my midnight tickets already so my contribution is starting. I'll probably watch it again a few more times that weekend just to be sure haha.

Yeah people generally have the complete opposite opinion of Sucker Punch.
Good effects, bad story.

Good story as in the whole 'child abuse, trying to escape reality, etc'.. badly done/script wise...

But CGI looks fake.. like video game (a little better, but still fake)...

Some may not want it, but I think they should tease of a shirt rip in a tv spot.
they dont have to show the actual shirt rip. just show clark reaching up, grabbing his shirt, then fade out to black.

Really??? Snyder doesnt have a great film record and the special effects are dodgy in the stuff we have seen so far. Especially that scene where Superman is trying to push that beam of light with his fist. Snyder is no Nolan. Granted I'm excited for MOS, but going in with caution.

I'm also more excited for MOS than I was for Rises, and I ended up loving TDKR.

It's a combination of the fact that I have completely loved all the footage released so far + I have a lot of confidence in the cast + I think Snyder is one of the better visual directors working today (and as good as the people he surrounds himself with when it comes to other matters) + I just adore Superman. I've always been way more emotionally attached to Superman than almost any other comic book character (even though technically, Daredevil is my favorite).

So the fact that MOS may potentially capture Supes in a way no other previous film has managed before is kinda bowling me over right now.

I hope someone has the balls to pull a Peter Travers and just say sod it to the embargo by publishing a glowing early review like he did for TDK. That one really put a rocket engine on TDK's hype train and even with two or so weeks before release, the film had more than two dozen gushing endorsements. If Man of Steel is a great film and WB is confident, they should just let the reviewers' initial enthusiasm give the film more momentum instead of muting the excitement.

They're good people. They follow the embargo. Though it's not like TDK's and Skyfall's leak hurt anything.

Out of curiosity did the early reviews hail GL as "the best CBM of all time"?

There were a lot of early reactions on twitter from people praising how great GL was, and we're all gonna be shocked by how good it is because they know it looked like crap. I no longer trust that stuff as im sure they are all studio plants.

I agree. IF its as good as they say, and all the early reactions are positive, then they should let the hype train roll.

Early screenings of the film are usually shown to critics a week or two before the release date of the film. But, there is usually an embargo banning the critics from releasing their review until the release date of the film. It's usually rather rare a critic breaks the embargo out of fear they will be blocked out of future pre-screenings.

The only bad sign is when the studio's dont hold pre-screenings for the critics. That usually means the studio has no faith in the film garnering positive reviews.

it did. and it was actually rather well reviewed, despite what these forums would have you believe. but it would be almost impossible for a movie of that magnitude to not have pre-screenings, the news itself of an absence of screening would be far more damning than it being reviewed poorly. Smaller films can get away with that, but not big blockbuster movies.

Bryan Singer convinced Warner Bros. not to experiment with test screenings. In addition, Singer took out 15 minutes of footage after showing Superman Returns to some of his "trusted associates".

I got that from Wikipedia....I did not know whether to trust it or not.
