She most certainly did delete her tweets......

WB's prolly all like:

:funny:

In all likelihood, she did it to stop the total ****storm she started. :oldrazz: There's a very good reason why the person I talked to this morning (who said she liked MOS and it was well-made) is VERY measured about giving her opinions on movies she sees early...

What do you mean by measured?

I that moment in STID was pointless and stupid, but not sexist. It makes Kirk look like a perv, but that was already established. Plus Kirk has been shirtless many a-times in these movies.

I think everyone has the right to 'roll their eyes' at that moment in Star Trek, but my LORD, the internet exploded as if it's pornographic.

Why is it so wrong to have a 3 second scene with a woman in her undies even if it's put in the film for the sole purpose of satisfying male audiences? There are plenty of naughty little "out of place" scenes like that in movies and TV shows that cater to women's fantasies. Ever watch Smallville on WB? The dude who played Green Arrow appeared shirtless so many times (for no particular reason) you had to wonder if his character was too cheap to buy clothes!

In light of that, though, doesn't it put things on an equal footing? Isn't that what true feminism is about? Equality?

And I don't think it was an accident to show so much of Henry shirtless, muscular body as well...

do you trust everything the internet tells you?

yes, it's possible that this person is telling the truth, but i find that highly unlikely because of the other positive information we are getting from others, not to mention that one guy who played a minor role in TDK said he literally weeped when he saw the film, so i doubt this is accurate...

i see 3 possibilities:
1.) she's pessimistic, and just wants to ruin other people's day by shattering their hopes of a good Superman movie
2.) she hates the Superman franchise and purposely gives it a bad rating, and lies about other big wigs saying the same thing
3.) she didn't like the movie, thinks her opinion is better than everyone else's, and makes a generalized statement based on inconclusive responses from those around her.

either way, it's silly, ridiculous, and a bit foolish to let ALL of our hope in a movie crumble after one woman said she didnt like the movie. we're tougher than that, smarter than that...

we are not given to wild, unsupported statements.

now on that note, we dont need to evacuate the planet immediately, but we do need to relax, chill, let reviewers says what they have to say, then watch it for ourselves, and be happy and overjoyed that Superman is TRULY back

Nice Jor-El quote there!! Jor-El: My friends, you know me to be neither rash nor impulsive. I'm not given to wild, unsupported statements. And I tell you that we must evacuate this planet immediately! :yay:

The problem is, usually movies have very positive early reviews (whether the movie is good or bad). So any negative review stands out.

I can understand what it's trying to achieve and there's logic behind it, but what could Martha/Faora and Lois/Faora possibly talk about other than Superman?!
the weather?

Is this a good reason to call it "a terrible film"?

No, it's not. And if it is, well then, pretty much all superhero films have to be deemed terrible because I'm pretty sure all of them fail the test except maybe the ones where the lead character is female. So there you go... the best films of the genre are clearly Supergirl and Elektra.

Just kidding. In all seriousness, this is an issue that needs to be addressed in all films as we strive to make them less sexist. However, in a film like this, I think you're at a disadvantage because the WHOLE movie revolves around the main character, who happens to be male. And people also need to consider that in a movie like Man of Steel, the dialogue is there with the intent of moving the movie forward... so it might very well be that there was nowhere to fit in this type of scene.

Why do you guys care so much about what other people think of a film? That always baffles me. Who cares what 1 person said or what a million people said. It's about what YOU think of the movie.

I hated Iron Man 3 and didn't like too much from the Avengers yet there's billions of people who think they're the greatest thing ever. Who cares what people think! This woman could just hate Superman all together, these people don't matter.

If people are going on and on about sexism in movies, they're just taking it way too seriously. I seriously doubt there's going to be anything out of character for Lois in this movie.

What do you mean by measured?
This week my acquaintance also saw After Earth. She said it had a "generic plot" and "didn't need the sci-fi." She didn't even say if she liked it or disliked it. Do you see how that's measured?

She said MOS was very bombastic and had a lot of action. If you like Henry Cavill, you'll love the movie. She thought it was well-made and liked it, although she admitted later that she had built it up in her mind and so it was hard for her to dislike. :funny: But at least it wasn't a letdown?

I can definitely see how a SHHer could freak out even at that review, since she didn't say it was "ZOMG AMAZING BEST COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVER!" but you need context for how that reviewer writes things. :oldrazz:

I think 'well measured' too is that you can gauge the film on its own merit without putting so much of yourself into the film.

If I saw Star Wars 7, and me being a Star Wars fans, I would try to tell people why the movies works and what doesn't in layman's terms. It doesn't mean I can't be excited but I can't go "JJ r*ped my childhood" or "It was the greatest film...ever!"

I would try to create some perspective that anyone can relate to.

Because its human nature, if you like something you want other people to like it, nobody wants to be alone with an opinion. If you absolutely love a movie but it has a 20% on rotten tomatoes it would be weird not to care.

We care because it affects box office sales... and bad reviews could mean the end of MOS...

I love this post so much I want to marry it. So so so true. Opinions are not everything but its always nice to hear what other people think to form an idea. I can't tell you how many movies or tv shows i've watched just from hearing people say "YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS FILM/SHOW!". Its always nice to have a recommendation.

the problem with the female soldier scene is that it portrays women soldiers as unprofessional at a time when women are still treated unfairly in the military and still arent afforded the same opportunities as male soldiers. it paints them as so unprofessional that at the mere sight of a big strong man they are unable to hold their composure long enough to suppress the giddy 14 year old girl inside of them. the film makers had the choice to highlight the woman as a strong professional soldier or to stereotype them as a goo-goo-eyed-boy-crazy girl. and they chose the latter, which is pretty repulsing. even as a one liner joke its just so dumb and unnecessary.

I agree, Motown Marvel. While the line doesn't ruin the film for me, I understand how it could offend even if that was not the intention. To me it's a bit corny and I wouldn't mind it being edited.

As for scenes with people in their undies, I think it's a sure bet to assume there's always going to be a target audience who enjoys seeing the female body in an exposed state. In other words, I apologize for being a member. ;)

Throw in some shirtless male scenes to even things off and all is fair, right? I mean I don't see how being sexy is sexist if you're doing it with both genders.

Her. Superior. Asked. Her. You know we don't train our soldiers to be Buckingham Palace guards who don't show any human emotion, right?

Now if she had gone all Bielieber completely out of the blue, then yeah, that would be offensive. :oldrazz: As a woman, that little scene doesn't bother me. I didn't know you were a woman....

And if you aren't a woman, I find it more offensive that you're saying all women SHOULD find that scene offensive because you (a man) deemed it so. :oldrazz:

Ok, and if it was a WW or Supergirl film there wouldn't be some one liners about how good looking she is from soldiers or male characters in general?

if a male soldier in a wonder woman movie just couldnt contain himself over how hot wonder woman was i'd equally roll my eyes and groan.

Why? Males always say things like that about women in film and no man complains about how that is "sexist".
Equality works both ways. :D

if males say anything in a film that are sexist or demeaning towards women, i'd be the first to complain about it.

While I see what you're getting at, but many movies are guilty of this. And if nothing happens, then the movie is sexless (Inception). Even with the female military official, I think it was just a harmless moment. It's not to the point where it's completely tasteless or demeaning. Was it a stupid joke? That's subjective... But not sexist.

the problem is that its been so easily allowed in other movies that its continued to be allowed in future movies. and i would readily argue that the joke was demeaning and tasteless.

"women should be able to talk about sex and sexuality"
five minutes later...
"omg that woman said 'I think he's kinda hot'! so sexist!"

everyone should be able to talk about sex and sexuality. I'm the last person who would say otherwise. but there is an appropriate time, place, and context for it.

So you're telling me that this one character represents every female soldier in the whole ****ing world? Seriously? That's sexist.

umm, the problem is its the film making the depiction. not me. i'm the one that has a problem with it.

And to be fair, her superior DID ask her. :oldrazz:

her superior asked her? yeah, she answered her superior honestly. the problem was she was so smitten by a man that she couldnt even contain her professional composure that a superior had to question her. it wasnt JUST the line of dialogue.

And if you aren't a woman, I find it more offensive that you're saying all women SHOULD find that scene offensive because you (a man) deemed it so. :oldrazz:

im not a woman. nor am i speaking on behalf of any woman. but that doesnt mean i cant be sensitive to the portrayal of women. I have sisters, i have a mother, i have female friends, and i want them to be treated equally and respectfully. just because im not a woman doesnt mean i cant be offended by sexist and demeaning depictions of women. i can feel that way because i have great respect for women.

I am a woman, I have a profession, and I do not find that scene disrespectful to me or my genre.

But from your posts, you're saying that EVERYONE should find that offensive (including women, which you are not) because you personally find it offensive. I find Big Bang Theory to be offensive in its nerd portrayal, but I don't think everyone SHOULD find it offensive. It's just me.

I can see how some can find it offensive, but most don't try to project it onto everybody.

do we even know that female soldier line/scene is in the final film?

by all means show me my post where i require EVERYONE (or anyone, for that matter) to be offended. i've merely stated my personal offense to it, and have stated that women have every right to be offended by it.
