So, after a certified day from hell trying to get down to San Diego, finally made it with just enough time to pick up mine and my boyfriend's passes and do a quick pass through some of the exhibit floor. First stop: Warner Bros. and the "Man of Steel" costume.
With so little time, I only got one cell phone image and only a handful of images on my Canon. It's difficult to shoot (without a polarized lens) since the glass around it reflects EVERYTHING, especially the Hobbit trailer playing right next to it.
My impressions from seeing it with my own eyes...
This suit is beautiful, really. I'm still not used to the alien designs around the sides, but overall... I find it hard not to be struck by how impressive the suit is, and that's what I'm loving about it. It is impressive. The blue is, in person, quite dark. It works, though, as it helps make the red really stand out, without the red needing to be really bright.
The texture is something I was most curious about. In the first official still, it looks almost scaly. This is not the case. There's been discussion that it's actually meant to look like chain mail, and it really does. The fact the the texture is all over the costume bugs me a bit, but hopefully it'll read really well on screen. The cape's obviously cloth look is a welcome change from... Other... More... Shiny, rubbery-looking materials. It looks regal and weighty but I bet it'll billow fantastically.
Looking back as I walked away, I was still struck by what an amazing impression it creates. The level that the shield is raised, its size, the way the cape is attached and draped... It's certainly new and different looking, and has elements that are taking getting used to, but damn, that suit just
screams "SUPERMAN."
I am so, so, so excited to see whatever they show us tomorrow at the panel. I'm sure there are plenty of others who are going to be covering it and providing updates and such, but I'm going to do my best remember everything as clearly as possible and share my thoughts here.
