To 3D, or not 3D? That is the question.

well we will just have to see what marvel does decide on. but like i said in my posts at least kevin didnt out right say all future marvel films WILL be in 3d. He only said they are looking into the 3d film making processes and thinking about doing future releases in 3d. Also i agree i rather leave thor and cap alone they dont need to be 3d releases. I would look for it for avengers since they got half a yr to go before production is due to start so more time to work on things.

@ Corp

Its about 30 minutes from me and I only go to see movies that really deserve it (Beowulf, TIH, IM, IM2, Avatar,) so when one does come out I want to be able to go all out :D Dont be mad that Im spoiled here in Orlando.

If im going to see Thor Ill see it at the IMAX in all its glory whether its 2D or 3D. Id just really prefer 2D.

i luck out for me i live in suburb of a medium size city, and for me i got this one regular theater that is 2mins from my house where i go see regular films, and all that. it has regular screens and some dlp ones too. Then i have a cinemark theater that also has imax screen attached to it(real imax too) that is only a 10min drive away.

3D is just like IMAX, a waste of money that doesn't effect my enjoyment of the movie. Let me know when they do something to improve the actual substance of the movie, and then I'll care.

Hell no to 3D Thor, Captain America and Avengers. Leave Thor and Cap alone and shoot a few scenes of the Avengers in IMAX format.

The thing that amazes me re. 3D is that it is a gimmick that was tried 50 years ago, and didn't stick, ........what's changed today?

whats made it better is that people have taken the technology and made it evolve... it is no longer just about lame tricks involving stupid things like yo-yos or fire popping out at the audience. 3D, at least movies that are actually shot for 3D and not rendered after the fact, are about making the audience feel like they are actually inside the fictional world they are watching. Avatar wasn't trying to make you think the spear was coming at you, but making you feel like if you looked behind you, you would still be looking at the jungles of pandora.

better action scenes!!!! And Better Graphics

The superiority of today's action scenes is highly debatable, and besides the formula for putting together good action on film has not changed one bit since the medium was invented.

The FX(I assume that's what you mean by "graphics") in the '50s were no less cutting edge for the audience at that time, than they are today.

This is always the goal of all quality filmmakers, and has been successfully carried off countless times without 3D.

For me, whether it involves the Three Stooges throwing screwdrivers at the audience or insects circling about in Avatar, it's nothing more and nothing less than a gimmick. I don't see any evolution for it's resusrgence. The reason for it's resurgence is the same impetus it had in the 50's..... Home Entertainment reducing Theater attendance.

I completely agree, quality filmmakers do strive for this and have succeeded, but theres nothing wrong with experimenting in ways to try and deepen that illusion.

that said, i don't for a second believe that 3D movies will ever make 2D films obsolete.

I honestly don't even notice the 3D after about 10 minutes. It loses its wonder and just becomes something that's there really quickly for me after I put the glasses (which I'm still not a fan of) on.
