To Believe or Not To Believe? (SHOW RESPECT, OR RISK A BAN) - Part 1

I was just wondering why we couldn't have a Christianity thread here ( again). I know last time it got invaded by atheist Amd immatue people on both sides and went south pretty fast, but I don't think it would happen again. The only reason I am asking is because I did met some soild people/ friends here in the old topic. Before anyone says anything, no I am not trying to force beliefs on anyone. I just thought it would be a good idea to bring the topic back. We had a private group but it's not very active due to the owner not letting people in often because he doesn't get on SHH much. I know it's kinda taboo to talk about religion on the Internet, but this site has political, republican, democratic treads, gay threads etc. So mods can we try this again?

Please don't ban me. I mean no harm with this topic!

A Message from the Mods:

There will be no tolerance for lack of tolerance here. Period.
ANYONE who badmouths anyone of any religion, or lack or religion gets an instant ban....and we actually give them the instant ban per the admins.
If you can't adhere to this, i highly suggest you don't post in this thread.

The thread made it so far that the thread manager had to swoop in! That's good.

It's great that we've made it this far without any major problems! Here's to another 40 pages of civil discussion! :woot:

congratulations to the shadowboxer, for having his thread make it to a part 2

I saw the thread closed.. the first thing that popped into mind was that someone went crazy last night as I was sleep... then i saw it was just the thread manager. :woot:

i thought the same at first for a split second. shouldn't it say part 2 instead of part 1?

Since we were talking about this before.

I'm a bit dubious to some of the casting. (Mary Magdalene is apparently black? and one of the Apostles-John maybe?) It's going to be funny if that doesn't cause the same "outrage" that the "non-accurate" casting of the recent Moses movie had.

Hopefully,it's Biblically accurate in terms of story content at least.

Actress Chipo Chung is playing Mary Magdalene. Chung is half Chinese and half Zimbabwean.

Babou Ceesay is playing John. Ceesay is from Gambia.

i liked passion of the christ. then again i was a kid when i watched it and haven't seen it since.

And yeah I do hope that the producers keep A.D Biblically/historically accurate story wise.

I was a kid too when I saw it. I liked it then and I still like it now. It is hard to believe it has been over 10 years already

That movie is rough to watch. It's too graphic for me. More power to the people who watch it annually.

they made a less violent version of it, I believe but yeah it was damn hard to watch. i heard someone got a heart attack in the theater.

Yeah,same here.

I applaud Gibson for what he did,but I can't really sit and watch that film. :csad:

The thing to me is there are actual characters/stories in the NT regarding black people. Why not do something with them? The story of Phillip & the Ethiopian for example. It's tough enough to have an authentic feel with these biblical films these days even when they're trying.

I have The Passion Of The Christ and still love it. It is the best biblical movie to come out in many years. Its an unflinching look at the last 12 hours of Jesus life. I don't watch it every year for Easter but its a good movie to have. Its good resource for people new to the christian walk and what Jesus did for us. Its better than the recent movies like Noah and Exodus God's and Kings that tried to cater to religious and non religious people. In my opinion, if you gonna do a bible epic movie stick to the source material. Don't add subplots like Noah being crazy environmentalist etc to make the movie accessible or whatever that was. Which was the reason those movies like Noah and Exodus God's and Kings weren't that great.

I suppose it will be easier to overlook the wierd casting if they actually make it historically/biblically accurate. But that still won't make the casting any less random. Other historical films don't havea problem with casting actors of the right race, why is it only bblical films that wind up like this?
