Really, whose got what it takes, any of the ppreexisting directors, or someone new, and please no spoilers.

Steven Spielberg!!!!

I didn't read it though- my sister's a fan, so she has the books. Went to the end.

Harry doesn't die.

I just had to know if that rumor was true or not.

I always thought Columbus should direct since, well, he started the franchise. But...I know the hardcore fans didn't care for his take.

I no fan of HP and I absolutely hated his movies. seriously, they're a chore to watch.

I don't care for Harry Potter either but the man did give us Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire. :o

I'm not a hardcore fan. More like a casual fan. But Columbus' films are uniformly boring. He's been outshone by all of the subsequent directors to work on the franchise.

My vote? Cuaron. He brought the best level of style and charm to the Potter world, and I'd love to see him to send Potter off.

I actually hated Newell's take with a passion. Columbus was alright, second film not the best- first film still great.

I liked Newell as a director. He has a very understated style which after the likes of a visual mastermind like Alfonso Cuaron can looke weak. I do prefer Alfonso's style and hope he is the one to do the 7th but I commend Newell on adapting a monster of a book and making it comprehensible and hitting every major note perfectly while not just scrapping what he didn't like (which Alfonso did quite a bit). He just did not have the gravitas of Curaon which did make his movie not qite as much fun.

I'd point out though my favorite movie in the series so far was OOTP and that has probably the most ackward pace of the six but the story was again so dense and was told very well as a comprhehensible movie nad my only real gripe was how anti-climatic a certain death was.

Oh well.

I really liked Newell's work. It wasn't quite as compelling as Cuaron's, but he produced a taut, exciting film that hit all the right notes and did have a visual flavor all its own.

Someone new to the franchise...

Jean-Pierre Jeunet perhaps?

I was actually talking about his HP movies but yeah, those are cool enough.

I never really cared about HP. I only started kind of liking it with the third movie, but it was the fourth one that I really thought was great.

I actually liked Newell's take A LOT. he managed to balance a feel of lighthearted adventure with a real sense of danger quite unlike any of the others, and it worked perfectly for me.

it's between Goblet or Azkaban for my favourite, but I haven't seen the latter in a long time.

i like new people... they are cloned better and better every year :)

Is David Yates directing the next one? Then just let him finish the series.

I might be one of the most underspoken hardcore fans on these boards, and i love columbus' adaptations I believe he and Yates are the only directors to adapt the feel that the books gave off.:D..most disagree:(

Yates did a great job. He should do Deathly Hallows, but not HBP. I don't think that's his style.

Brett Ratner.

Just kidding. If I had to pick between the veteran HP directors, I'd go with Cuaron or Newell. Yates didn't do half-bad either. F**k it, anyone but Columbus. His vision served its purpose, but I don't think he can handle the darkness that's enveloped the story. Honestly, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Newell come back. The only reason he didn't do OotP was because he was busy finishing GoF, right? Something like that? Anyway, I always got the impression he would do one more if given the opportunity.

Though I've read only description of the book, I'll vote for new director. Hope there will be someone, who gets it right.

My favorite director so far is Cuaron (Yates is the 2nd one)

Didn't he express interest in directing one of the Harry Potter films, but for some reason couldn't do it? Maybe he'll have time for the final installment.
