Very doubtful. He already have three projects to do after Indy 4.

I'm torn on which of the previous directors I'd like to see come back for Deathly Hallows....probably either Alfonso Cuaron or David Yates.

It's the most epic of the books, it needs someone who can translate something huge into a film adaptation on almost a Return of the King-style level. It's that big.

Having finished the book this morning, whatever director they get must also make sure that a certain line by a certain Weasley stays exactly the way it was written in the book. ;)

Peter Jackson or Gore Verbinski.

Jackson because he would fallow the book well and would not care about length.

Gore because he is a awesome director.

I REALLY hope you're joking. If you've read LOTR you know exactly just how much PJ changed. That's the reason I don't want him directing HP7. PJ has even stated in interviews that he didn't care about translating exactly what was in the books and how the movies were made for people who only vaguely remember the books, not people who know everything about the novels right off the top of their heads.

If PJ directed HP films he would probably add in characters, take out some characters, change certain deaths around, put in scenes from previous books, etc. In The LOTR books, Boromir was killed in Two Towers but Jackson had him killed in Fellowship. That's like having Dumbledore die in DH instead of HBP.

I think, considering how much they dropped, left out, changed, and just plain screwed up in the earlier movies in regards to what is necessary in the last movie, they need to drop the whole movie idea and START OVER.

They should re-cast, bring back a few from the series (Maggie Smith and Robbie Coltrane, for example) and make a TELEVISION SERIES that can cover ALL of the books, not just make a Cliff's Notes version on film. I want the minor characters, all the dialogue, all the moments that make Harry Potter so interesting. I want Peeves and the Bloody Baron. I want the S.P.E.W. and House-Elves. I want the full Quidditch World Cup, and I want to see the Black house being cleaned out so we can see some of the clues that pop up later. I want to see Ron and Hermione develop as a couple, and I want to see Snape get all the time he gets in the books. I want to see them cover the whole back-story about Harry's dad and friends. I want to see the Centaurs and the Weasleys (along with their Garden Gnomes) get their due time. I want them to keep every moment in the story intact.

To do this, they need all the time they can handle, and that requires a television series. Several seasons.

In the movies, they're just going to have to make up a lot of crap, cut things, change things, and lose the whole feel of the books.

I like the movies, but I think they've painted themselves into a corner by cutting so much from the books out of the films. Now they have plot points that cannot be reached with the information they've provided. They have screwed themselves.

Stop now and start over. We'll all watch.

I'm really suprised at all the hate on Columbus. He was the only one to capture the feel of the books. No matter the darker nature of the later books, they are still at their core escapist fantasies for kids. Cuaron and Newell robbed all the charm and sense of wonder from the films, and ruined the films for me. It doesn't matter how old the characters are, it's written for 11 year olds. If people who are older like them, that's fine. Childrens books like Peter Pan and Treasure Island and the Wizard of Oz are classics. But they're still children's books and you treat them as such.
I haven't seen Order of the Phoenix yet, so maybe it's good, but at this point I'm really not willing to give any other directors the benefit of the doubt.

Oh, and no one should ever take the advice of "hardcore" Harry Potter fans on anything. If you do that Harry, Mrs. Weasley, and Aragog will somehow end up having sex. "Hardcore" Harry Potter fans are fat Wiccan perverts in their 20s.

I would love to see Cuaron back, to me he has done the best job with the series. He brought imagination to the movies, he strayed slightly but captured the feel of HP better then any of the others.
I also think he will be able to capture the epic feel of the final battle at Hogwarts

Columbus was ok for what he was. I still enjoy The Philosopher's Stone but I think that was because it was so faithful to the books. He certainly didn't bring anything new to it. I didn't like his Chamber of Secrets all that much.

Goblet Of Fire is my least favourite of the movies. For what that movie could have been, it was a massive let down. That had the potential to be the best out of all the movies, it lended itself best to movie translation and was just poor.

Yates wasn't too bad at all. He seemed to capture the political side of OOTP quite well. I still feel the last 20 mins was rushed through and that's one of the reasons I may prefer someone else due to the nature of the finale of DH.

No doubt Kloves will end up butchering the script of that anyway.

i voted for yates, but i'm only about halfway through deathly hallows. i'd like to see what he does with half blood prince before he has a go at the last film.

I never read the book, so disappointment's really not an issue for me, but I always thought Goblet of Fire as easily the best. for me it was the only one to bring the "sense of wonder" Leto Atreides was talking about and that actually works great as a movie. it was this great adventure movie the likes of which is pretty rare nowadays.

Philosopher's Stone could've been like that, but Columbus somehow managed to make it incredibly boring, which takes away all sense of wonder you could get out of it.

I'd have to check out Prisoner of Azkaban again, but I do remember it was my second favourite behind GoF, followed by Order of the Phoenix.

Yates = :down

Either get Cuaron back, or get an Oscar-caliber director.

Didn't he express interest in directing one of the Harry Potter films, but for some reason couldn't do it? Maybe he'll have time for the final installment.

Spielberg was supposed to direct the FIRST movie, but J.K. and him couldn't agree on the casting. J.K. want an unknown (which she got) and Spielberg wanted Haley Joel Osmont. I kid you not! So, when Spielberg left he was replace by his Gremlins and Goonies screenwriter, Chris Columbus.

Alfonso Cuaron or Guillermo Del Toro

Yates will direct HBP, so I won't be sureprised, if Book 7 is also mentioned in his contract.

Really, whose got what it takes, any of the ppreexisting directors, or someone new, and please no spoilers.

well, i heard once that M. Night Shamylon had an interest in doing a HP film, but he's not my choice. Keep the guy who did OOTP and HBP for DH.

I'd love to have Cuaron or Newell back.

Lol @ the guy who said drop the current movies and start completely over

Peter Jackson or Gore Verbinski.

Jackson because he would fallow the book well and would not care about length.

Gore because he is a awesome director.

Problem with jackson- the book is already really slow so he would probably stay true to it and we would have a snore fest of the team going through the plans for the fifth time and arguing about how hermione cooks fish

Agreed. Just let Yates finish the franchise.

His movie is the best HP film right now, so I think he should continue the franchise. I always thought that Harry Potter needed one movie director, so we would get the real connection between all of it's movies.

Sadly, WB found Yates only after The Goblet of Fire :(

I'd love to see Spielberg get his hands on it. The book reads pretty much just like a Spielberg movie. Plus it could be absolutely epic with him at the helm. And we would get a full adaptation. No studio would dare to tell Steven Spielberg to cut scenes out of his movie.

Columbus was better when Potter was still on the lighthearted side. But as things turn to darker times in the Potterverse we need someone who can relay that darkness on film. Yates did a good job with OOtP so he would be a good choice. Cuaron also is a good choice.

Gore because he is a awesome director.

Hmm it would be interesting to see what Gore would do with Book 7.

Jackson would make it epic that's for sure. Though I wonder what he would take liberties with. Though I doubt he wouild be able to take certain liberties with the Potter books since Rowling is a fierce contributor in what goes in and what is left out.
