One of the best Batman films.

18th anniversary! :woot: :batman: :joker:

England had to wait two months....and I remember that wait, as well!

*rolls a joint and watches Special Edition DVD in celebration*

For me it wasn't until December 25, 1989. Those 6 months of waiting without internet or crap like that simply killed me.

18 years haven't healed a thing for me.

Don't worry you're not alone I also had to wait for home video due to being sent to the Dominican Republic that summer. I thought seeing every other Batman movie on opening weekend would make up for it but I'm still mad that I didn't experience BATMAN on the big-screen. I wish in 2009 WB would re-release it theatrically if only for a limited time like they did with The Exorcist.

I've always wished they would re-release it on the big screen as well. That would be great.

My parents' anniversary is only a few days apart from the US release date. Cool, huh?

Atleast you didn't have the internet to spoil things. :yay:

The seeds were set back then though. I used to cut out all the articles and news stories about the movie from magazines, and I stuck them in a big scrapbook. You'd be surprised how much there was.

I still recall the first photo of Batman printed in The Daily Mail. I was in awe. It was a black and white photo, and I assumed the costume was grey and blue. Then when I finally saw it was completely black, at first I thought, "Please no," but then I soon realised that it was even cooler.

You still have it?

If WB makes me double-dip I will be pissed. :cmad:

Are they seriously going to make a 20th anniversary edition? That would suck, I mean it's good if there are more things to see but it would be horrible since all Bat fans bought the four disc collection two years ago.

You never know!

If there's a 20th anniversary edition, I'll gladly buy it, if it's got new material. I'll buy this film again and again forever if WB keeps sweetening the deal. It's my favorite film.... why wouldn't I?

What, aside from a possible new DVD release, do you guys think should be done for the 20th anniversary?

A next-gen game would be my dream gift. Akin to the Batman Begins game, only free-roaming and open-ended. If we could get a modern game for B89, I'd die of happiness. With or without the proper voice-cast. Just getting to visit Gotham Cathedral in 3D with Keaton's Batman.... nothing would keep me from a copy. If it came out on the PS3 and it was still $600 bucks, I'd buy it. You listening, WB?

Yeah.... a guy can dream. The 20th anniversary will probably be passed up. Landmark as the film may be, it'll be forgotten by the general populace as the new franchise grows. Being "unoriginal" in the sense that its characters are derived from another work (the comics) kind of invalidates it being treated like something special by WB. Others like Superman: The Movie are different because of the popularity they have unto themselves. S:TM and the Reeve franchise have their own popularity aside from the general interest in Superman, they can easily stand on their own. The three critically inferior sequels being attached to B89 also wouldn't help.

I dunno. I just don't get the vibe that WB will treat the movie with any additional dignity. We'll probably just get new releases of the current SE on each new video format as time wears on.

Even though it's 3 years shy of the 20th anniversary, I think it would've been cool if WB had done a re-release this year (even as a very limited engagement) as promotion for TDK. It's pretty clear that WB is trying their best to distance the two franchises from one another to avoid confusion, but disregarding that, you gotta think seeing the original would psyche people up for the new one. They could play with the whole "Joker's return to the big screen after almost 20 years." Hell, debut the trailer with it.

Oh well.

Have you been to YouTube? There's plenty of stuff that wasn't included on the DVD. I loved the new documentary but I also wanted an old skool doc as well. They could have also included TV spots, commericals for products that tied in with the movie, etc. In addition some new Michael Keaton interviews and Danny Elfman commentary track.
