Sup fellas,
Well i was just over at the infamous IMDB and i noticed that Todd McFarlane was under Writing Credits for "Characters". We all know that Todd was the mastermind behind Venom so i guess this is more confirmation, but then again it is IMDB

nice find.

we know venom's in the movie. but IMDB doesn't. they are just guessing, and put things up just to see what happens. we can't trust them until the movie is released. that's the sad truth.

The "mastermind" behind Venom was David Michelinie.

Todd McFarlane just drew Venom.

correct but Todd McFarlane gave us the vision of venom, if it wasnt Todd who drew Venom first we would have probably seen a very different and crappier venom

Not really. In Todd's Interview with Tom DeFalco from Comic Creators On Spider-Man, he says that Dave asked him to draw "a big guy in a black costume", which is basically what we got. Todd altered the face a bit, and hunched him over, but that's pretty much it.

Well when i first read the title to this thread i thought you meant he was credited for art he is doing for the opening credits....which would be sweet.

I understand but I'm saying that Todd has created some freaky ****, ie. most of his Spawn characters, and I think HE created Venom to look creepy as hell. If he got another artist to illustrate Venom, I think we would have a charcter more typical spidey villainish,(not as intimidating)

venom wasnt really all that intimidating back in the late 80s :/

Really? For me, that was when he was the MOST intimidating...by the mid-ninties he just got boring and monotonous, imo...

very true, venom 2099 is just the next stage of evolution for venom, you have to change some characters every once in a while

and yes venom in the late 80's scared the piss out of me

What was so scary about late 80's Venom? He was just SM with a little bigger build and a smile.

i was young and i had never seen anything like him before, most of spideys other villains look normal, so seeing venom for the first time was pretty scary since i was used to villains like doc ock and green goblin

Hobgoblin and Green Goblin looked pretty out of control at times, no?

Interesting...

Both David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane should get credit.

I agree, this brings back memories of Stan Lee discussing the creator issues between him and Steve Ditko and I agree with Ditko's view point that both a writer and artist help to create the character, because one without the other wouldn't work - almost symbiotic.

I preferred the look of Venom done by McFarlane to be honest, when he just seemed to be more clever and ahead of Spidey every step of the way, I never liked Venom all that much as an anti-hero type, which I suppose is why Carnage was introduced as Venom was becoming a little stale.#

Oh, and never believe IMDB.

I dunno, Todds Venom...

...reminds me of...

...this rubbish for some reason. Not menacing in the slightest.

What about Mike Zeck and/or Ron Frenz, who originally designed Spidey's black costume? That's all Venom's costume is, really. I'll give Toddy Boy credit for making him scary with the wacky mouth, but Venom's just a big dude in the black Spidey costume, which was introduced nearly 50 issues before McFarlane started on ASM...

I agree with whoever said Hobgoblin; the comics had a way of making him uber creepy even before the whole N'Astirh incident.
