Tokyo Mirage Session #FE

I hear this game isn't doing so well in Japan, which is surprising somewhat, as it's clear this was made for Japanese audiences. Oh well.

<< How to read and understand sales

After a week of delay due to the holidays, Media Create has updated with the latest with sales figures from the week of December 21st through 26th.

One of the main highlights of the week was for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem (Genei Ibun Roku#FE) which released in Japan on December 26, 2015 and saw a total sales figure of 26,340.

The total sales figure for the game is surely on the lower end of things by Nintendo and Atlus’ standards, but keep in mind that the game released on the 26th of December, which is the last day on the Media Create tracker, so we’ll likely see higher numbers in this week’s software ranking and sales.

It’s also worth noting that the game released on the day after Christmas, when most people have already emptied out their wallets on gifts and sales, so it definitely looks much worse compared to the other software that have been selling quite well prior to the holiday.

However, 26,340 is still a pretty low number for a day 1 sales of any major title. If we break it down, there are probably various factors as to why it didn’t perform as well as the company may have hoped for, with one example being that the game is an RPG for a console that basically just has Xenoblade Chronicles X as the only other major RPG title, so there wasn’t much of an audience to begin with.

We can also say that the title of “Genei Ibun Roku #FE” itself may not have caught as much attention as its tentative title of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, when fans hoped to see something more along the lines of a darker image from the Shin Megami Tensei series along with the characters and story that you’d get from the Fire Emblem games with a mix of gameplay from both series.

Instead, the game ended up being what some may consider to be closer to Persona-like title [at least the more recent ones] with some Fire Emblem heroes and references in a world of idols and entertainers—so it wouldn’t be a far stretch to say that there may have been identity and target audience problems for the game.

Moving along, we also had Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme VS Force make its debut on PlayStation Vita. While some fans voiced their critical opinions about the game since its release, it still sold quite well at 87,254 units in its first three days. It may not be on the same level of one of the previous games in the series with Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme VS Full Boost, which opened with 269,940 units in its first week, but respectable numbers, nonetheless.

Rocket Company also released Medabots 9: Kabuto/Kuwagata and it sold 27,702 for its opening week—a few thousand shy of Medabots 8’s debut of 33,326 units sold in its first week.

And as one last note, Monster Hunter X took back the reins after having been dropped to second place the previous week by Monster Strike on 3DS. The two have swapped places for the most recent week, so it looks like Monster Hunter X ended up winning the Christmas battle in the end. Most of the top-10 titles also continued selling well throughout the course of the holidays, too.

The complete top-20 software sales chart for last week is as follows:

More details with in the article it's self.

Yeah, I think those are good points. There isn't exactly a huge audience for traditional JRPGs on the Wii U. Xenoblade did decent, but it's much more western inspired. And revealing this as Fire Emblem X SMT didn't help since the end product looks, at least to me, something much more in the vein of Persona with a slathering of Fire Emblem imagery here and there. I haven't played it, obviously, but definitely not at all what I expected from what I know about it.

ok so I'm putting this article up, but with a spoiler warning
just so people don't watch more then they ever wanted too.

Watch The Start Of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem With Details On What’s Going On. January 7, 2016 . 6:00pm

Watch Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem’s start on how the protagonist Itsuki meets up with his childhood friend Tsubasa Orbibe, followed by the Mirage named Chrom with a summary on what’s going on.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
(Genei Ibun Roku#FE) recently released in Japan, and we got ourselves a look at the game’s opening stages from videos provided by YouTube user Menthol Life. Here’s a look at the opening stages where Itsuki meets up with his childhood friend, and also the Mirage named Chrom.

As a reminder, the following video and details are from the starting part of the game, so if you wish to avoid any spoilers at all, we’d suggest you to skip this article.

[YT]Gs6o8PXoZZE[/YT]

The game starts out with Itsuki walking into some kind of event as he waits for his buddy Touma. He then notices Tsubasa Oribe nearby and approaches her. She’s pretty surprised to see him there, asking if he was supposed to hang out with Touma. She’s a bit upset about Touma being late, likely because it led to Tsubasa finding her there.

She then shares her excitement for Kiria’s upcoming live show that will take place in the middle of Shibuya. Tsubasa is a huge fan of Kiria and makes Itsuki promise that he’ll check her out, and if he doesn’t, he’d owe her a parfait of the best kind. Itsuki says that he doesn’t mind treating her, so she doesn’t need to push it that much. Tsubasa explains that it’s because she’d like to be able to talk to him more about Kiria.

As it turns out, the reason she was embarrassed to be caught there in the first place was because she was actually there for the “One of All” idol audition. When they made an announcement for the participants to gather, she suddenly had to leave due to some “urgent business.” While waiting on Touma, Itsuki decides to check out what’s going on with all the commotion going on at this event.

Once Itsuki shows up to the idol event, he finds his childhood friend Tsubasa on stage. She makes a little embarrassing slip of the tongue for her introduction. However, he also notices a strange cloaked person floating behind her, who disappears shortly after. When asked what kind of idol she’d like to become, Tsubasa says that she hopes to be one that can make everyone happy.

She explains that a long time ago she was feeling terribly depressed and it caused those around her to worry, which made her feel bad about it. However, there was one childhood friend who treated her the same way as before, and that was more than enough to cheer her up bits at a time. This made her wish to be able to do the same and bring happiness to others.

The host then asks if her depression had anything to do with her older sister, the idol Ayaka Oribe. He then eggs her on to explain what exactly happened between the two and asks more about the sister. Tsubasa says that she was cheerful, a great singer, and more than anything, a very kind older sister. The host then brings up how Tsubasa’s sister disappeared five years ago from the “New Theater Grand Opening Disappearance Case.”

The people in the audience notice that the host has been asking some strange questions. The host then keeps going on about how terrible the incident was, then asks Tsubasa how would she feel if she could have the opportunity to meet her sister, who happens to be there.
“H-huh? Big sister!?” exclaims Tsubasa.

The host reponds, “you’ve been fooled! A penalty for the simple idiot! You should suffer the same fate as your sister!” shouted the host in a strange turn of events.

People from the audience appear to fall one by one from some kind of effect caused by the host and the mysterious cloaked guys, who are apparently taking away something called “Performa” everyone there. Itsuki is shown to be getting hit by the effects from the mysterious cloaked guys, but is saved from some kind of light that radiates from his chest. He must now save Tsubasa.

[YT]uszee_MpXwk[/YT]

In the next part, Itsuki steps into the strange shiny portal-like object and finds himself in what appears to be a dungeon. A mysterious girl (TiKi) appears in front of him and tells him to hurry up and continue going forward because the girl is in danger. He works his way through the dungeon and hears a girl screaming. They show one of the participants from the idol event, who appears to get “turned” by the host and the cloaked guys.

One of them appears behind Itsuki, saying “hand it over… power… hand it over, hand it over.” Itsuki makes a run for it and dashes towards a building, where he hears Tsubasa on the other side of the door. The cloaked man appears behind him once more saying “hand it over… power… hand it over.”

After stepping into the building, he finds a struggling Tsubasa. The cloaked man catches up to Itsuki, and just as he’s about to get strike him down with his blade, an orb of light appears from Itsuki’s chest, which he grasps and uses to attack the man.

“What was I doing…” says the mysterious man who looks like he was waking up from a slumber. “I’ll take care of these guys. We’ll talk later, you go save that girl!” Itsuki must save Tsubasa on his own, but has no idea how. It isn’t long until Tsubasa also shows a similar light radiating from her chest, which Itsuki extracts to use against the cloaked woman that was haunting his childhood friend. She, too, appears to have come back to her senses, similar to the mysterious man.

The four were surrounded by several more cloaked villains, and go into their “Carnage Forms,” where Itsuki and Tsubasa transform using the powers of the mysterious people they just met. “Unbelievable,” says a voice coming from the sword, surprising Itsuki. He recognizes the voice as the one from the mysterious man, who guides him how to fight in the first battle.

After the fight, they all return back to their normal forms. The man says that he still doesn’t know what’s going on, but remembers his name as “Chrom.” Itsuki thanks him and introduces himself. Chrom shakes his hand thanking him as well, because it was the light from Itsuki that vanquished the darkness within him. The woman introduces herself as Shiida, and is met with a polite introduction from Tsubasa. Shiida apologizes for scaring her, but Tsubasa explains that even though she was scared, it was thanks to them that they made it out alive, and returned the gratitude.

Itsuki asks Chrom what exactly are they, looking back at how they first got attacked then saved by them. Chrom says that he doesn’t even know why he’s there, and Shiida has also been trying to remember but nothing comes to mind. Chrom then suggests they leave the area, as he can’t promise those were the last of the villains. They decide to do just that for the time being.

At this point, I wish they'd just hurry the hell up and get something out there about the English release, if for no other reason so this thread can stopped being bumped for a bunch of non-stories.

Finally, something worth a damn to post about the game. Official localized title is Tokyo Mirage Session #FE (yes, the weird #FE thing is still in the western title). It will not be dubbed and subbed only, but will see a retail release. Date in NA is June 24th, Summer 2016 for EU.

Doesn't surprise me that they aren't dubbing it. The songs would make that a pain.

this from something I missed last month cause I wasn't checking out operation rainfall that often.

Duo-Arts.jpg

Genei Ibun Roku #FE has already been out in Japan and there are some rather interesting aspects of the game worth discussing at least, some of the developers seem to think so. They got together with Nintendo Dream, a magazine that focuses on you guessed it, Nintendo products. During the interview, they have discussed the main protagonist Itsuki among many other things. This is only an excerpt from NintendoEverything‘s translated version of the interview below. Be sure to check out the link for the full interview:
ND: Itsuki and co. join the organization lead by Maiko without knowing it’s an entertainment office, right?

Ando: Itsuki-kun is an ordinary person, so the flow came to be “he comes to know various things about the world of show business one thing at a time = the player learns things about this world”. I think it also makes it easier to receive the new elements.
Takata: It was a problem how the story progresses after entering the office… It is probably easy to go with a structure of supporting the growth of your partners while mastering your own abilities, so that was the outcome. Wasn’t the first proposal [for the role of Itsuki] a producer?

Ishida: It was a manager.

Yamagami: That’s right.

ND: A manager!?

Ishida: Well, Itsuki is a rare main character for an Atlus game as he is relatively active in chats, so perhaps a protagonist like, “I’ll become a rock star!”, would have worked as well.

ND: If Itsuki-kun was a character like that, the image would change quite bit.

Ishida: Yes. But the player takes part as Itsuki in the game, so I thought it would be better to have a character who has a bit closer point of view [to the player] so that you can project yourself, rather than having a grand dream which is quite remote for the player. Therefore we thought along the lines of a manager or a producer, but even that is a bit different, I think.
Genei Ibun Roku #FE is already out in Japan. No word on a Western release date yet.

“Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was localized by Atlus in a way that is consistent with the localization work they do on games they publish,” the Nintendo representative said. “It was a priority to ensure the game feels familiar and appeals to longtime Atlus fans. Any changes made to the in-game content were due to varying requirements and regulations in the many different territories Nintendo distributes its products.”

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE has Been Altered for Western Release

Alterations are a-happening!Continue Reading...
Ibnroku_menu_background.jpg
It has now been confirmed that Nintendo has altered Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FEfor the Western release of the Atlus developed RPG, as spotted at the PAX East demo that has been reported by Censored Gaming in their video, which you can check out below.

(Editor’s Take: I don’t necessarily believe changing a character’s age to suit the West is censorship, but most of these other changes seem to fall under that definition.)

To sum up the video, alongside the raising of the characters’ ages, panties have been changed into spats during battle sequences. Spats were not present in the Japanese version. All of these instances corroborate with a message board post that correctly identified the title’s localised name and voice audio which was posted prior to the Nintendo Direct broadcast confirming this information.

The only thing that hasn’t been confirmed yet is the absence of the Hot Springs DLC, and we will find out whether this is also correct in due course.

[YT]oD6POqW3CPc[/YT]
Furthermore, more changes were spotted in the PAX East stream. If you look at the images on the transparent walls within the gameplay screens, you will notice that many of the photos in the Twitch stream in the English version are less revealing than from the same section in the original Japanese version.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Hands-On – Teamwork & Planning A Stellar Performance. April 25, 2016 . 4:30pm

The PAX East hands-on playthrough of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE has players making beautiful, punishing music together with their teammates.

69 comments Read >

[YT]jpVhoHMcRD8[/YT]

Players of Persona 4: Golden and Shin Megami Tensei titles will feel right at home in the turn-based arenas of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, judging from our hands-on experience at PAX East. When the game releases in North America in June, the performance-themed turn-based gameplay will have players making music by pounding their enemies’ weaknesses.

The PAX East preview took us to several different parts of the game, showing off various aspects of the combat system and hints of the story. The demo began with Itsuki going after a missing Tsubasa, finding her in the hands of a cloaked monster – a Mirage. They had come for her creativity, but when Itsuki unleashes his previously-unknown Performa power, things took a dramatic turn.

The two main characters are only two of several Mirage Masters that would join the player’s party over the course of the game. The character are all bound to a different Mirage, each of which comes from a previous Fire Emblem game (Tsubasa’s Mirage, Caeda, comes from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, for example).

The demo moved onto one of the dungeons, each of which is themed after some form of entertainment (fashion, photography, etc…). This one, themed around photography, featured cameras that would send players back to the beginning of a dungeon should they enter its line of sight. Monsters that wandered the dungeon could be struck in the field, allowing for preemptive attacks during the actual combat.

Monsters are weak to certain kinds of attacks in the game, just as they are in other Shin Megami Tensei titles. Players also have to find those weaknesses themselves, but once they do, they can start to combo them together using the session system. Sessions will let players chain multiple attacks together, gaining two, three, or more hits together from the other characters.

Longer sessions must be put together via discovery as well, with players experimenting with equipped moves to see which ones chain with each other. The demo had sessions of up to five attacks put together in one long chain, creating an emphasis on finishing battles fast using enemy weaknesses. The additional attacks also come at no MP cost to any player beyond the one who initiated the session, so the game heavily encourages using this system.

Several visual touches make a good session feel that much more satisfying and tie it into the idol theme. An audience constantly cheers the battle on, creating a sense of being on-stage during combat. Boxes with the characters’ faces in them will also show up, like large screens at a concert, when a session is available to play. The characters even add a little flourish to their moves, creating their autograph in the air before an attack.

Further keeping with the idol theme, players could also execute Duos and Duets with two characters, casting powerful moves together. Characters would also unlock Ad-lib powers, which were skills that would sometimes activate to add an additional attack from another character when you strike an enemy.

Should a player want more moves to create more devastating sessions, they’ll need to create new weapons based on the Mirages they fight. Fighting certain mirages or finding certain items will give the player the recipe for a new weapon, and each new weapon carries various attributes and abilities from the monster. Players will also need to fight well to build up star power, which is also necessary to create new weapons.

These weapons, as well as some passive abilities, can be crafted in the Bloom Palace. The passive power creation was not demonstrated in this build of the game, though.

The social media app allowed for some extra character interactions on the Wii U’s gamepad (which primarily featured dungeon maps), although this was not heavily featured in the demo. Side quests could also be undertaken to better get to know your teammates, and these would also provide new abilities for players to use in combat.

The idol theme has been used to interesting effect in the preview build of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, providing a unique framework for players to string together multiple attacks in one devastating array. It makes combat feel like a spectacle where the player is the star, carefully orchestrating victory in a showy display before a cheering audience.

Latest Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Focus On A Fight Against Aversa. May 3, 2016 . 9:00am

The latest round of official screenshots shows Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE’s takes on Aversa, Tiki, and a number of Shin Megami Tensei skills.

96 comments Read >

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE may not play exactly like Fire Emblem or Shin Megami Tensei, but the Nintendo Wii U game combines ideas and concepts into both games.

In the latest round of screenshots, we get to see a lot of things it has in common with both series.

In Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Itsuki Aoi, Tsubasa Oribe, and Touma Akagi are recruited by the Fortuna Entertainment Talent Agency after Tsubasa, a pop star, is almost kidnapped by Mirages.

Because Itsuki, Tsubasa, and Touma were able to summon the Chrom, Caeda, and Cain Performas, they’re considered the perfect candidate to take down Mirages in turn-based battles while exploring Idolasphere dungeons.

The latest round of screenshots goes over Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE’s similarities with the games that inspired it. In some screens, we see Itsuki and Chrom, Tsubasa and Caeda, and Touma and Cain in front of Tiki as they realize new Radiant Skills.

Even though the Performas may not look exactly like Chrom, Caeda, and Cain, Itsuki, Tsubasa, and Touma’s outfits bear a passing resemblance. The boss in the images is based on Aversa, from Fire Emblem Awakening, and looks a little like her. Finally, in one image, we see Itsuki knows Shin Megami Tensei abilities like Zio, Cleave, Rakukaja, and Dia.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE will come to the Nintendo Wii U on June 24, 2016 in both North America and Europe.
