Tom Cruise...what comes next?

Cruise most likely got a backend deal percentage like he did for MI2. So a chunk of the profit is probably going to him.

What's wrong? A poorly executed film made a lot of money. This was the most recent example I could think of, even though the DVD tanked because of poor WOM..........

Anyone care that the movie made 70 million overseas? In fact haven't hall three M:I movies performed better overseas? As for word of mouth, I think that'll be a factor in giving it legs. It's a far better movie than 2, and people who didn't even like the first one might want to check this one out.

Exactly - here you go......

MI2 - $215m domestic, $330m overseas
MI - $180m domestic, $275m overseas.

Why did the expectations go WAY UP for this one?

It was the likening of it to the term **** movie that shocked me,yes it was flawed without a doubt but it was also enjoyable in places IMO
**** movies usually refer to CINO and Boll productions IMO

BTW what were F4's DVD sales ?

You're right, I should have used Bloodrayne. FF opened well on DVD and then fell off a cliff and out of the top 15 I believe..........

I didn't know that,i guess thats why Thing2005 didn't have a DVD thread like his BO one

You know Hollywood is still making **** movies when Uwe Boll has 3 movies in pre-production right now. :o

Exactly my friend........at least next year we won't have a war again - Batman doesn't come out until 2008.............

Yep,next year it will be F4 vs Transformers instead as im sure no one thinks their fav pet project is gonna beat Spiderman 3

BTW has BB2 got any competition for 2008 ?

Ironman.

Is that really competition though ? i mean Batman is now once again in the public eye and has a great first movie that will make the second one greatly anticipated

Well I named the first 2008 comic book film that came to mind...haha. Well isn't the third POTC supposed to be released then too?

Well I thought you meant in terms of comic book films being released in that time period.

I take your point i was really looking at if their were any other big movies in general slated for the same timeframe

Well, The Transformer's will be more highly anticipated than FF2, as seen by the front page poll. Batman will have POTC3 to deal with, Iron-Man will probably do Daredevil numbers..........

Well Iron Man is Marvel's first movie being made under them so it will be interesting to see what happens with that. Hell...we might even see Tom back in the mix for the role of Ol Stark.

POTC3 is next year,I think the thing weighing in TF's favour is the superior creative team and the fact it isn't at Fox
Iron Man has potential to outdo DD IMO if approached right

Oops, you're right about POTC3. Iron-Man, if done right (which I hope it is, I like the character), would probably top-out at FF numbers domestically.

I'll have to do some research to see what's coming out against Batman in 2008............

Iron Man has the potential to mix an adult story with spectacualr visuals which would give it a large appeal IMO

Ive checked at CS,the only 2 movies listed that are Big are Jp4 and Harry Potter HBP

JP4 could do some damage. Check out the Ocean's 13 script review in the Al Pacino joins Ocean's 13 thread - it sounds great.........:)

MI3's 'lack of sucess' at the box office is a story by the media. They have been targetting him mercilessly over the last year. With all the stuff about Katie Holmes and scientology, Cruise painted a bullseye on his face.

There were news editors just waiting for MI3 to not be a huge hit, so they could launch endless stories that Cruise is out of favour and lost his popularity. They proberbaly had the stories written beforehand.

Yes, there has been a noticeable public grumbling against Cruise, but again, that comes from the media throwing all his dubious behaviour in our faces and calling it news.

The media wants you to hate Tom Cruise, just like they wanted you to hate Michael Jackson, and again, most people are taking the bait.

Isn't Hulk 2 also supposed to come out in 2008?

the Marvel movie update said Iron Man and Hulk were the top priorities for 2008, then Captain America top priority for 2009

I think it'll be Hulk 2 that'll give Batman 2 a run for its money as far as comic movies go

Matt you are jumping to conclusions. 47 million is a soild opening weekend, only 10 million less that part 2.

However, the budget was much higher than part 2. For a movie that cost 160 million dollars to make, 47 isn't that great. Especially with a cut of the profits going into Cruise's pocket.
