Transformers Tom de Santo Interview (IESB.net)...designs are not final

Considering Megatron has already been built frozen and filmed. We're not getting a different look for megs.

Perhaps for his Cybertron version, his alternate mode may be a different question though.

I want to see the A-10 become Megatron's Earth alt. mode. In regards to Starscream, they should redesign the legs and give him a G1-esque head.

An A-10 would be pretty badass for megs, they could put the 30mm cannon on his arm instead of the fusion cannon. A comanche would be cool too, though not as intimidating.

I find it funny that some have such a big problem with this version of the Transformers....yet many of those same people loved Beast Wars...which had COMPLETELY different body designs (Prime as an APE with LIPS!)

The one thing that remains consistant through out all the alternate storylines are the personalities.

And this movie is going to carry that as well. The designs have changed...get used to it, that's the transformers universe. But the personalities WHICH IS WHAT TRANSFORMERS IS ABOUT....still remains.

Wrong. Optimus Primal was not AFAIK Optimus Prime. Totally different character. And AFAIK there has never been ALTERNATE storylines. Every single incarnation of the franchise has taken place in the same timeline (some in the past, some in the future... etc.).

This movie isn't Beast Wars. It's not telling THAT story. It's TRYING to tell the original (and BTW most successful and longest lived) "Come to Earth" Ark/Spike/Bumblebee origin story.

So there goes that.

Primal was a descendant (in spirit) of Prime. A leader of a faction (the Maximals) that came after the Autobots. Likewise, the Megatron seen in Beast Wars is not the original one, although he is acting out a plan that the first Megatron designed.

The recent series (Armada, Energon, etc.) are a reboot, but have been met with a fairly lukewarm reception by the fanbase. The toys, however, fit with the originals esthetically and thus remain welcome.

You must not remember how people reacted to Beast Wars at first. It was met with a lot of angry fans who were actually pretty pissed about Tranformers that transformed into organic looking creatures. Until people started watching it and discovered that the story was actually pretty good it was not met very warmly.

I seriously doubt that the story they are presenting will be as rich or as groundbreaking as Beast Wars was when Bay and crew are already simplifying and already simple storyline. If anything they should make it deeper and more rich to extend the franchise...but I guess they just want a bunch of pretty money shots. We'll see.

when was this revealed in the show???

They said it in the first episodes I think.

Then at the end of Season 2 they basically showed Optimus Prime(along with the original Megs) inside the arc.

Megatron(BW version) tries to kill Prime, and Primal takes OP's spark. Thus becoming Optimal Optimus. Megatron eventually does this too and gets the Dragon look

It wasn't a secret in Beast Wars they made references to the great war and original G1 characters in the first season. Megatron even stated that he took his name in honor of the Original Megatron.

i only caught a handful of episodes

It was a very well writen show and the CGI was really good for the time it was produced, if you get a chance you should watch the entire series.

when I watched it I always thought that they were Optimus and Megatron just that someone was doing a different take on the series...just like this movie

They literally pulled off the final Predator design at the last minute. The Original design for the Predator would have turned that movie, from a sci-fi classic into a frickin comedy. Anybody who hasn't seen it just check out the dvd extra..man! *shakes head*

But i seriously doubt we'll get any major changes with the TF's
I've never heard of this before. Are there any pictures online?

Well I think the whole reason for giving him an earth alt-mode would be feedback related so I doubt they'd "screw up" twice, and personally I can't wait to see it (if it sticks).

Agreed, they have probably got most fan related back-lash from the Megatron design then anything else (maybe Starscreem). We know they can here us, whether they choose to listen is another question. Either that or they are just screwing with our minds, which is pretty evil even for Bay.

Beast Wars actually takes place 300 years after the last Great War (Generation One) and uses an amalgam of comic and cartoon continuity and is to most considered part of the G1 continuity in which I end with Beast Wars. Beast Machines was supposed to have been a continuation of BW, but the writers just threw everything that happened before (BW Character development, BW & G1 continuity) in the trash. Also the maximal’s didn’t actually transform in Beast Machines they morphed which really upset the fans. The fans really hated the BM show at the time and caused Hasbro to pull the plug on the follow up series that was to come after. In such is why we have been stuck with anime ever since.

The anime series that have come ever since then have been a re-imagination of the Transformers. The most that can be said about the new shows are they did give us some pretty cool Transformer toys, but in storylines they haven't been as kind.

But at least we have the comics Furman’s work has been great as usual. I even enjoyed his work in Dreamwave on the Armada/Energon comics. To bad we will never see that storyline completed since DW went bankrupt. During his time at DW he did a storyline called Worlds Collide which was great. It was like Infinite Crisis type of story which had characters from multiple Universes in which Unicron was going from Universe to Universe destroying everything.

Now IDW is also doing a new take on the G1 universe which Simon Furman is also writing which has been great thus far, with Infiltration, Stormbringer, and Spotlight stories. Escalation is the next chapter in that series which picks up after Infiltration. With this fresh start on the Transformers it gives people that don’t know anything about the Transformers a chance to start at the beginning.

So re-imagination isn’t actually anything new to Transformers, but depending on how well these are done determines on how the fans will like the new continuity. I just wish they could have brought Simon Furman into the development team before making the movie.

It's kinda late in production for this stuff to not be finalized, isn't it? Maybe all they are filming is the live-action stuff, but we have already seen what appears to be a workable prop of Bumble Bee in robot form...
I'm lost.

its not that hard to understand......... the CGI is done after they film
