Tom Hooper to direct movie of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cats'

Editing the Buttholes Out of ‘Cats’ Was a Total Nightmare.

Sounds like Hooper was a proper, well, butthole.

As I suspected:

Cats VFX artist describes work on film as almost slavery

"It was pure, almost slavery for us, how much work we put into it with no time, and everything was difficult. We were rushed on the project that we'd have no time for anything. So when people say, "Oh, the effects were not good," or the animation's not good, or anything, that's not our fault. We have no time. Six months to do a two-minute trailer and four months to do a film of an hour and a half. My math is pretty good...you could figure that doesn't make sense

The source also goes on to say that Hooper was "horrible", "disrespectful", "demeaning", and "condescending". The source described situations where you would go into a conference room and were not allowed to speak and that Hooper would talk to them like "garbage". While this all sounds unpleasant, this is only the side of the source and, according to "The Daily Beast", they did reach out multiple times to Hooper and distributor Universal Pictures for comment but they did not respond.

Not the first time I've read he's a dick.

VFX crew are already overworked and then you add ********s like Hooper on top of that. From what I understand, he didn’t allow the use of mo-cap even though he had the cast in weird mo-cap spandex??

Makes the James Corden and Rebel Wilson joke at the Oscars even more distasteful.

Well this shutdown is humbling guys like that now.

Yeah that's what he did.

My guess is he was probably offered Munkustrap. None of the other parts really fit him.

Man, I didn't like this one. The humor just doesn't work with singing.

Having the usual Honest Trailers voice reacting to the movie would have been hilarious. :(

I think Elba fits Macavity better and has a more menacing presence, but I could see Jackman having been offered it.

Elba is just good at playing villains.

Jackman hasn't played many. Blackbeard in Pan and Chappie. That's about it?

He's played the villain elsewhere. Scoop by Woody Allen.

Idris Elba doesn't strike me as a "second choice" sort of actor. I can't see them saying "Well, we couldn't get Hugh Jackman so I guess we'll go with Idris Elba."

Why? It happens all the time (Will Smith in The Matrix, John Travolta in Forrest Gump etc). Idris Elba wouldn't know that.

Robert Shaw in Jaws was a second choice. Donna Reed in Its A Wonderful Life was a second choice. Half the cast in Batman Begins were second choices.
