Flash has always been more of a "physical" rival for Peter, in that he was a school bully.

Which is why it's always been interesting to 1) see Pete's reaction to Flash's adoration of Spider-man, and 2) Understand that Pete knows he could basically kick Flashes ass but he chooses not to and instead conforms to the schoolyard social hierarchy.

This kid doesn't show any of that.

With the polo shirt, he reads preppy *****e to me but not physically imposing jock. Zylka had the dumb blonde jock going for him; Joe Manganiello had the physical side along with spiky-haired *****e going for him.

Maybe Tony can beat Peter in a game of croquet, lacrosse, tennis, or is a mathlete or chess master. Maybe Peter beats him at the science fair. Plus, outside of the set photos, Tony looks too hipster to me. Especially, the group photo of the main cast. He looks like he wants to be in a 80's tribute band.

I'm still praying that somehow he's not Flash. It's just too pathetic and terrible a change to the character. COMPLETELY misses the mark, even if you're trying to 'contemporize' him. Jocks still exist.

This is true! I mean I feel like Michelle was definitely a cover for MJ but there hasn't really seemed to be any attempted misdirection with Tony. But all this secrecy is driving me crazy!

It does feel that way.

Personally, I think Zendaya was picked because she has business with Disney being a star on their channel and a recognizable name and face for preteens and teens.

Tony is a good actor but doesn't scream Flash by any means. Maybe it'll change when we see him in character, but when I think Flash, I think a big, buff jock type.

Jacob should be Kenny Kong. He's too dorky-looking and not to mention chunky for Ned Leeds.

Angourie in my opinion would've been a better pick for MJ or Gwen.

Michael Mando, whoever he is, I know will deliver a hell of a performance. Same with Logan Marshal-Green. Bokeem Woodbine I have no doubt in my mind will be an awesome Shocker (just hope they make the suit right) and Keaton, Tomei, Holland and RDJ are all going to be fantastic, but yes the younger actors give me hesitation just because of all the changes not only to the races but personalities that for someone who really was hoping Marvel would make a traditional, true to the comics version of their most popular property, it's kind of disappointing.

yeah. with the HS cast, it does seem they just threw these characters into a blender, mixed them up real good beyond the point of recognition, and then randomly assigned classic Spidey characters names to them.

He's the kind of kid that traditional Flash would've bullied and Peter would've rescued.

that is true.

but when the character has traditionally been portrayed in a certain way ( jock bully who's more physically intimidating than Peter ), people develop a certain expectation of the character.

at least Tony's Flash will be a bully/trash talker of some sorts. so at least that aspect is still present ( albeit in a different form ).

unlike......say.........MJ/Michelle, who seems so totally different from her traditional comic counterpart.

Revolori as Flash Thompson has to be one of the worst castings I've ever seen in my life. I'd rather see Joe Manganiello's 39 year old self try to play a high schooler than Tony Revolori's potentially horrible Flash Thompson. I honestly wish Marvel just decided to make Spider-Man a college student, pretty damn sick of seeing him in high school.
