The Dark Knight Too Many Characters?

But Raimi tried to make them all main characters (the villains). Nolan showed absolutely what was necessary about Crane and Rha's and just showed what a sick rapist sob Zsasz (sp?) was.
I think that now that Batman's origin doesn't have to be explained, the extra screentime will be split like this: a part of it to explain Bruce's/ Batman's motives more and the rest to develop all supporting characters more. Give an extra minute to each one and miracles can be created (strongly believe that the scene with Sandman going to his daughter's doc would help immensely).

i agree. people need to understand that a lot of time was spend for the training scenes and all flashbacks

now this is a sequel. which means batman for the whole movie.

There's going to be some many egos in this Batman movie character wise. Its going to be great.

I have a feeling some characters will be a waste too like other movies did with their actors. I saw Oceans 13 and the other actors I wanted to see so badly were barely onsreen.

I don't understand how people are starting to get worried about their being too many characters. Look at how many were in BB. It's not like there is a new director who might not be able to handle it, Nolan is still on board last time I checked. I mean Scarecrow wasn't in BB that much in terms of minutes of screen time. The amount of time he was shown imo was used well for him.

You shouldn't go to see a movie and wish to see more of a certain actor. If it's written correctly then the character will be used for the right amount of time and you will be satisfied.

Exactly.

Also what people need to understand is, SM3 was written without really any one main plot. Instead Raimi used multiple intertwined mini-plots to advance the film and Peter Parker's character arc. That completely changes the whole dynamic of a film. It wasn't that there were so many character, it was that there were so many plots.

With TDK, if Nolan keeps the focus on a single main plotline, with a few subplots thrown in, he can really have as many characters as he wants and still not have it become overcrowded. As you said, Zsasz was in BB, but since his bit was so small, he didn't overshadow any of the other characters or villians.

Well whats the count on villians that we know of for TDK, hmm 2 (Joker, and Scarecrow) plausibly Dent could surface as Two Face in this one (probably). Anything could happen. Me personally I like alot of characters if its directed right, like Nolan has done before.

Some directors can do it, some can't

Depth has little to do with screentime. It's about writing interesting reactions and relationships for characters.

The acting in BEGINS covered for the characterization in places. I don't think the character work in BATMAN BEGINS was masterful in the least. Good, but not masterful. Bruce was well done for the most part, but there really wasn't much TO any of the characters other than Bruce beyond very basic aspects. Characters like Crane, Falcone, Earle, and even Fox and Gordon and Rachel to some point ended up feeling very stock, albeit cool stock. However, with BEGINS having introduced them, the characters can now DO and GROW more hopefully. And I do think it's smart to build Harvey Dent and The Joker throughout two films.

Eh. Screentime for Maroni, Scarecrow, AMH's character, and Fox will be relativley limited.

I don't see Joker getting a lion's share of screentime either.

The characters that need developing -- Bruce, Dent, Rachel, Gordon -- will get it.

Rachel will get more screentime than Joker?

Okie dokie.
