Well if we're discounting trilogies that got continued later on, then that discounts all my faves (Indiana Jones, Bourne, Star Wars, Toy Story) except the TDK trilogy. So I guess that one wins for me.

We’re not discounting trilogies with subsequent movies. But we are limiting the choice to 1-2-3 movies and not 2-3-4, 4-5-6... just the first 3 original movies count towards this list.

SW could also be considered 3 individual trilogies (1-2-3) because of the spacing between them.

    Back to the Future
    Indiana Jones
    Captain America
    The Dollars Trilogy
    Bourne Trilogy
    The Dark Knight

Some would consider the "Before" trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight) to be among the finest trilogies. They are all critically acclaimed. However, I don't like the last part, so I'm not including it in my list. The first two are good though.

    1. Dark knight trilogy
    2. Star wars OT
    3. Star wars ST
    4. The new planet of the apes
    5. Spiderman 1-3
    6. Terminator 1-3
    7. Toy story 1-3

The star wars OT and ST are pretty close to each other to me. Spiderman 1-3 would be higher if spiderman 3 sticked the landing. Captian america i would put in there if not for the first one has i dont care for it at all but i love 2-3.

    That's a pretty good list.

I'll go with these....and the order largely depends on my mood. If someone told me I could only watch one, I'd have a bit of a meltdown - I would say that LOTR is probably my favourite, but it's a close race.

    1. Lord of the Rings
    2. The Dark Knight
    3. Captain America
    4. Original Star Wars trilogy
    5. Bourne ( Identity, Supremacy, Ultimatum)
    6. Indiana Jones ( Raiders, Temple, Crusade)
    7. MI 4-6 ( Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, Fallout)
    8. The Godfather
    9. Rocky 1-3.

Honourable mention to Raimi's Spider Man trilogy, Die Hard 1-3 and Dollars. Cornetto, Lethal Weapon ( really should have stopped with 3!) Matrix and Thor have one very strong chapter but the other films are a bit of a letdown and I don't like the Toy Story films.

    10. Mad Max - even without Fury Road.

Ok so if we’re now including trilogies that got continued as well, then I can do an actual ranking, lol:

    1.) The Dark Knight trilogy
    2.) Indiana Jones OT
3.) Mission: Impossible 4-6 (this is totally cheating and I don’t care!)
    4.) Bourne OT
    5.) Star Wars OT
    6.) Captain America
7.) John Wick (also cheating as it’s more of an incomplete non-trilogy)
    8.) Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight
    9.) Toy Story OT
10.) The Lord of the Rings

Difficult to pick a three-some as fourth parts (and more have been subsequently added at later dates), so go with my top 3 of 3….

    1) Spider-Man 1-3
    2) BTTF Parts I, II, III
    3) LOTR
