Mad Max has the won the FEPRESCI prize which is a hugely prestigious and high brow critics prize. Case in point - previous winners include Michael Haneke (times 2), Paul Thomas Anderson (times 2), Perdo Almdovar, Jean Luc Godard, Terence Malick, Roman Polanski, and now George Miller for Mad Max.
When the snobbiest critics in the world pick a Hollywood tentpole as the best film of the year, you know something's in the air.
Make no mistake guys, Mad Max is the most critically acclaimed film of the year by far. I made a suggestion sometime ago that it could be up for Oscars and people scoffed at the suggestion. Just saying this **** is real. People name dropped CA:TWS. Like lol. that movie wasn't being hailed as a cinematic masterpiece, good reviews notwhithstanding. This is something else.
Further evidence, Indiewire's mid year critics poll...
Where again Mad Max triumphed beating such critically revered films like Clouds of Sils Maria, The Duke Of Burgundy, Timbuktu, A Pigeon Sat On A Branch Reflecting On Existence, Jauja, The Tribe, Li'L Quinquin, About Elly, Inside Out, Hard To Be A God etc. etc.
It wouldn't surprise me if Mad Max ends up winning some major critics awards at the end of the year too. If it becomes a major critics cause, it could be up for Oscars.
