Glen Powell will be headed into the danger zone, after all.

The actor, who stars in Netlix’s Set It Up, is in talks to join the cast of Paramount’s Top Gun sequel.

The move happens after Powell was in contention for – and lost – the part of Goose’s son to Miles Teller.
He so impressed Tom Cruise and co. that they are beefing up another role and have offered it him.
Details of Powell's role are being kept in the hangar.

I'm SO happy to hear that! I was bummed when he lost the last role to Teller, because I'm a huge fan of his and this could be a career-making movie. It's great that he impressed them so much they're basically writing him into the movie.

I really want Glen Powell in "Top Gun Maverick" and was so disappointed when he lost the role of Goose's son to Miles Teller.

Glen Powell was the only guy that I really like ( out of all the actors auditioning for the role like Nicholas Hoult, Miles Teller, Dylan O' brien, Austin Butler)

I have been a fan of Powell since I first saw him in "Scream Queens" and I'm happy that he gets to work in a big budget action movie with Tom Cruise.

I see they're getting Monica Barbaro for a pilot in the movie! That's great news. It was a shame when her series Chicago Justice was cancelled after 1 season. It's good to see she's getting feature films now.

Monica Barbaro is on board to join Tom Cruise and Miles Teller in Paramount-Skydance’s “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Barbaro was one of several actresses that tested with Teller last week before the studio finally made the decision over the weekend.

“Oblivion” helmer Joe Kosinski is directing the film, a sequel to the 1986 original “Top Gun.” Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the first film with the late Don Simpson, will produce with Cruise and Skydance CEO David Ellison.

This latest project will be set in a world of drone technology and will explore the end of the era of dogfighting, with Cruise portraying a flight instructor. In late May, Cruise posted a photo of himself in front of what appeared to be a Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet.

Barbaro is said to be a pilot who is also Teller’s love interest in the pic.

Val Kilmer will reprise his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the sequel, which is set to be released on July 12, 2019.

Barbaro first broke out playing a contestant on Season 2 of “Unreal” and has several other TV projects including “Chicago Justice” and “The Good Cop.” This would be her first major film project.

She is repped by Innovative Artist and Main Title Entertainment.

And it seems like she has only been cast just this last weekend.

Seems like Cruise is a flight instructor now as well.

Also apparently Adrian Pasdar was in the original Top Gun in his film debut. Wonder if he'll be back now that he's more well known. It would be cool to see him. Perhaps he could be a Brigadier General.

In an interview with TMZ (via IGN), Loggins said that he’s talked with Tom Cruise, who will be reprising his role as Maverick, about recording a new version of the song. “I met Tom Cruise on [The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon], and I asked him that question,” Loggins said. “He said, ‘Of course, we have to use ‘Danger Zone.’”

Loggins, who looks great, by the way, said he’d love to team up with a younger act for the project. “So I’m hoping to do it, maybe as a duet with a young act,” he said. “I’d love to work with, well, there’s young and then there’s young. We have some feelers out to some pretty cool rock acts.”

Jon Hamm & Ed Harris join Tom Cruise in TOP GUN 2.

EXCLUSIVE: Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Lewis Pullman have been set to join the cast of Top Gun: Maverick

No word on the character descriptions of the new three so far, but Harris and Hamm add instant gravitas to the proceedings. Pullman is the son of actor Bill Pullman whose film credits include The Strangers: Prey at Night, Bad Times at the El Royale and the upcoming Hulu limited series Catch-22.

The trio joins a supporting group that Deadline told you about yesterday that includes Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez and Monica Barbaro. The last in that group, Thomasin McKenzie, had to bow out owing to scheduling.
