Elton John had Bernard Taupin, Josiah Bartlet had Sam Seaborn and Toby Zeigler, and now to the list of star/writer double-acts we can add Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie, with the Valkyrie co-writer confirmed to pen another likely Cruise star vehicle, New Regency's Flying Tigers.
Never the most prolific writer, McQuarrie has hit something of a purple patch through his partnership with Cruise, with Flying Tigers his fourth ongoing collaboration with the actor. McQuarrie is also underway on scripts for The Monster Of Florence and The Champions (as reported by Empire last month), as well as espionage thriller The Tourist, another likely Cruise starrer.
Flying Tigers will tell the story of a squadron of volunteer pilots helping the Chinese fight the Japanese before America entered the war, promising to send the Top Gun star back into the skies in a reboot of the John Wayne propaganda flick, and no doubt selling bucketloads of Ray-Ban Aviators in the process.
