Toy Story 4

I am disappointed by this news, but the upside is we have a chance for another great Toy Story film....or the first weak entry in the series that ruins a perfect trilogy...

My thinking is that we haven't seen a Toy Story film that hasn't been great, so I'm on board.

The trilogy won't be ruined. A trilogy is three films. Worst case scenario, you have a great trilogy with a turd trailing after it.

This quote from Lasseter gives me hope.

"Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie—and I wanted to direct it myself.”

I just can't help but think why mess with perfection? Everything about that final film ends in such a perfect way as a sign off, we said goodbye to those characters, the more I think of it the more this just feels wrong on so many levels no matter how good a story they may have come up with. Someone should have had the balls to stand up in that meeting and said 'No, just no.'

John got me excited about his passion project Cars and it wasn't that great, but at least he's excited about the movie.

I love Pixar, I really do, and it's certainly possible that this will be as good as the others. But I'm not thrilled about this news. I felt like Toy Story 3 was the perfect end to the series and an outstanding film in its own right. The Toy Story trilogy is possibly the only trilogy in which each entry is better than the last. I just don't know about this.

You know if you really feel this way, you don't have to go see it in 3 years. :woot:

I don't get it. Why haven't people been complaining about the Toy Story specials if Toy Story 3 was just the perfect ending for the characters? Does the fact that it's not on the big screen negate that? If you want you can look at Toy Story 3 as the final movie and ignore everything else. But the characters didn't cease to exist as soon as the end credits started. It's not like they were all incinerated.

And it is not like they had their chance. :cwink:

Toy Story is perfect for kids of every generation. This will be a whole new generation who get a chance to enjoy.

You know what? I probably won't.
I am sure this will hurt Pixar and Disney's bottom line. :o

Exactly, for some reason, it being on TV it doesn't count. But its the same cast, the same characters with Bonnie. It's Bonnie's time now.

You know what? I probably won't.

Nah, you probably will. This "number 3 was a teh perfect trollogy" stuff will go away once reality and acceptance seeps in.

Given Pixar have gone downhill in recent years I can guarantee you it's not a slam dunk I'll see it. Monster Uni was the first one I skipped since Toy Story 2. Hell I'll go so far to say Disney has reclaimed it's position as best animation studio.

And Bonnie, the shorts and tv specials are all awesome. :word:

Exactly.

And this is where reality sets in. The guy who has made Disney's Animated Studio awesome again is the guy directing Toy Story 4. Not only is your logic flawed, but by this time in 3 years Inside/Out, Finding Dory and Toy Story 3 will have landed. I have a good feeling all the naysayers who probably haven't even watched the last 3 Pixar movies will have to stop calling for their death.

And said guy's last two Pixar directed movies were complete rubbish. Regardless to say Pixar hasn't lost it's way a bit creatively is burying your head in the sand.

The TV specials have nothing significant happen in them and are just light fun. Holiday speciasl aren't held to the standard of a film or TV series usually. So being against the film but okay with specials makes sense.from my perspective as someone who is fine with Toy Story 4 being made.

So how exactly did he fix Disney Animated Studios? Magic? And Cars is rubbish now? Jesus. Cars 2 suffered from a mediocre writer.

And Pixar not making all time great films for a bit doesn't mean they have suddenly "lost their way". They made one mediocre film, and two very good films. They simply don't live up to the greatness that came before. The talent is clearly there as the shorts, tv specials and movies are all of high quality.

Anyone who can see the trailer for Inside Out and doesn't realize what is coming has their head in the sand.

I actually really like Monsters U.

Yes, Cars is rubbish, and both films are on him given they were his passion projects. Yes he helped Disney get back on its feet, but Pixar has lost its way in recent years going after sequels and settling for mediocrity, they are no longer innovators in the animation field, their culture of originality and pushing the envelope in the field has diminished and this Toy Story 4 is just another example of that.

I loved Monsters University and Brave, but yeah both Cars films are definitely the average fare we got from Disney from the early 2000s and most Dreamworks films. The fact that they are making a third one is disappointing, I'm still a Pixar nut but I feel they could become more about money than about quality films.

Yes. And the point of the ending was we don't need or have to see what happens next. One young child plays with toys, loves them to death and grows up. He hands them over and the cycle continues.
