It's definitely worth a discussion. The GA comes in all shapes and sizes. I assume they aren't all bunch of people(I've seen a few even here) that pay for a film knowing they are going to hate it. I've seen line ups full of people with tshirts and what not. Kids with the toys..I got into a discussion with my roommate about these movies this morning. I am under the belief that the GA doesn't consider these movies crap. My roommate thinks the GA considers these movies crap but still goes to see it. I think the A- score gives credit to my train of thought.
Then there is the fandango survey results(very very telling).
There is a part of that video in which Alonzo pokes fun of the 'fact' that bay shoots the farm in a Malick-esque way and then laughs about it. I'm not so sure the entire GA is as cynical, it's very possible they simply see a great Malick-esque shot and that rings true as quality cinematography to them. Somewhere in here is the crux of it all. It's a type of quality for the people that don't look past it. A quality B movie if you will. Definitely not made for the cynical.
I have a buddy that keeps telling me that now that Shia's gone, he doesn't see it remaining as big a draw(for him). I just keep telling him there are two worlds to this, two very very different worlds.
But that cinema score though...with reviews this low. It's pretty fascinating to me.
