I got into a discussion with my roommate about these movies this morning. I am under the belief that the GA doesn't consider these movies crap. My roommate thinks the GA considers these movies crap but still goes to see it. I think the A- score gives credit to my train of thought.
It's definitely worth a discussion. The GA comes in all shapes and sizes. I assume they aren't all bunch of people(I've seen a few even here) that pay for a film knowing they are going to hate it. I've seen line ups full of people with tshirts and what not. Kids with the toys..
Then there is the fandango survey results(very very telling).

There is a part of that video in which Alonzo pokes fun of the 'fact' that bay shoots the farm in a Malick-esque way and then laughs about it. I'm not so sure the entire GA is as cynical, it's very possible they simply see a great Malick-esque shot and that rings true as quality cinematography to them. Somewhere in here is the crux of it all. It's a type of quality for the people that don't look past it. A quality B movie if you will. Definitely not made for the cynical.

I have a buddy that keeps telling me that now that Shia's gone, he doesn't see it remaining as big a draw(for him). I just keep telling him there are two worlds to this, two very very different worlds.

But that cinema score though...with reviews this low. It's pretty fascinating to me.

I enjoyed the movie. However unlikely, I still hoped Bay would one day make a frame by frame remake of the animated movie. Not in the cards now with Galvatron being introduced. I know a few other characters have already died. Still, this movie kind of set up a live action version of the animated move.

In short: I liked the movie. It was pretty awesome. My full review will be in the user review thread

Saw it in IMAX 3D at a press screening. Loved it. Honestly, the plot actually made sense and everything mashed well together imo. This film was the first TF film to put me through an emotional rollercoaster. Bay finally delievered imo. The robotrs now have distinct personalities and emotions, I mean the scene where Optimus loses his **** after learning of [BLACKOUT]Ratchet's death[/BLACKOUT] I didn't see coming. He was so pissed off. I'll write a proper review but it's an 8/10 for me. Really enjoyed it.:oldrazz:

Does Optimus get to fly again or is he grounded this time?

Optimus flies at the end of the film. Superman style.:cwink:

A- Cinema score?
with reviews looking this bad, wonders never cease.

With movies like this, the GA could care less what these "professional" reviewers think.

This is the classic "leave your brain at the door and just enjoy it" kind of movie.

And that's not to say that the filmmakers shouldn't work on making an all around quality film with better story, etc. it's just that sometimes, these kind of films are cool too.

This movie pretty much sucked donkeys balls.

Lockdown was the only positive amid a bloated cesspool of bad filmmaking.

Optimus can fly? Probably should have flown off the planets years ago.

Glad you dug it dude  Thought is was awesome as well.

How was the IMAX 3D? Did it make it difficult to see the detail of the action?

I liked it myself, big time. What can I say, I'm a sucker for bayhem, especially the type of bayhem that is as insane as some of the stuff in this movie. It's just a really fun time at the movies, and I really liked how much more autobot scenes and character were actually in this one, I really liked Optimus being as angry as he was, and understandably so, I think Wahlberg was a very likable human protagonist who felt like he deserved to stand next to Optimus, and of course being Mark Wahlberg, is a badass himself, and of course the already mentioned Bayhem. Four movies in and still there's entertaining and creative set pieces.

My friend pointed out that the part where Optimus Prime rides Grimlock into the city to defeat everyone felt like when Gandalf rode down the hill in The Two Towers

Hi guys just wanted to know, do the dinobots transform or only in beast mode for the time they're on screen?

They start in Robot mode, transform to beast mode, then robot mode, and beast mode again.

Just watched it! Can someone explain to me why [BLACKOUT]the Dinobots are Dinosaurs, how did they come to be, and why are they captured by Lockdown in the first place? Also, what is so special about Lockdowns ship and its history?[/BLACKOUT]

Is this something I missed or is it a plot hole?

There's a lot of depth with the 3D. The only time I couldn't follow anything happening was when the camera was shaking. But anything involving a CGI was just amazing to watch in 3D especially in the final battle.:woot:

They were
of the same rank of knight as Optimus was, and apparently they scanned the only thing available at that time when they were on Earth back then due to the organic metal terraform. I think.

-the creator ships land on Earth 65 millions years ago. we see dinos being destroyed
-present time Lockdown hunts robots in the universe. he catches robots who were on Earth in dino form. i made this up. this is not in the movie.
-they hang on chains inside the ship.
-Optimus gets the big sword and becomes the ''knight''. a knight needs a horse to ride into battle. i made this up.

it makes no sense. but thats the point of TF4. :woot:

Not sure how this is the culmination(perhaps box office), but it's been happening for a good long while now. Not the first china co production, not the first film to have china, not the first film to have product placem.....etc.

Suppose it's the first film to be that poorly reviewed and have all that. Then again, I suppose this is the one film that will get Chen's site the most clicks in this dissertation if you will.:yay:

Any film can have it's plot holes shot through, tf4 isn't all that much worse in this regard than the likes of PRim(giant wall? sending one monster through at a time? Dinosaurs?). Not being able to ignore these due to the weak movie is one thing but harping on them as if the majority of these sorts of movies don't have such things and acting like 'that's the point' is dishonest imo.

Hard to get excited about the Dinobots in the movie when Michael Bay puts his typical stamp on them.

Boobies and Muscles and Racist Robots?
I don't know, seems like plenty of people got excited about them.
Can't speak for everyone though, but it seemed that way.

I was excited for them...wish we got more of them though

The final fight scene with Lockdown vs Optimus, Bumblebee, & the Yagers was probably the best action scene the series had imo.

It also just proved how miles ahead Cade Yager is from any of the other protagonists

See, I don't mind humans in these flicks if they're actually proactive and can hold their own like Cade.

That scene would have probably made more sense with Duhamel's character. I thought Yeager is just an inventor? Yet he looks like he bench presses his inventions.

If Bay wouldve just split up the two groups of villains (Grammer/Lockdown and Tucci/Galvatron) this movie wouldve been so much better

It wouldve made more sense with Duhamel's character. But I think he was a football star in high school. And also just because he's an inventor doesnt mean he couldnt have worked out.
