and that would be him following Spielburg...all of the directors you just mentioned got to greatness in their own way. Dont get me wrong I know that when it comes down to it Bay will not be known as one of the great directors of our time(based on his current work). However he he decided to change up and make what you guys consider real movies and become a real director in you guys's eyes he should do it on his own path.

That's fine and dandy. But having the ego to tackle tragedies like Pearl Harbor in the process is god-aweful. It's ridiculous.

I actually never minded Bay in the 90s... I liked Bad Boys a lot. And The Rock was fun and Sean Connery saved it (for me). Armageddon was watchable but I thought it was very trite. Throughout the 90's I thought his stuff was good because I was under the (wrong) impression that it didn't take itself seriously... how could it???? His movies are so bad that they're good. But, it wasn't until Pearl Harbor that I realized just how much of a horrendous filmmaker he is.

When you think a movie doesn't take itself too seriously and its pretty bad and cliched, it can be very entertaining (Armageddon). Things change when you realize the filmmaker takes himself seriously and thinks he's making a masterpiece that the movie becomes downright laughable and plain bad.

and you dont think that every director believes that they are making the next Godfather when they direct a movie????????????

Fortunately many talented directors and filmmakers come close (Bryan Singer- Usual Suspects? Damn if that's not one of the best movies of all time) or otherwise prove that they can at least tell a compelling story without resorting to explosions, cheese, and cliches.

Sadly, Bay hasn't even come close in the slightest.
