Tron Legacy Sequels

You can likely thank the bombing of Tomorrowland for this decision. Even though it would be a sequel, there was no guarantee another Tron would be a hit and after their most recent big budget flop.

They have Star Wars, Marvel, Pirates of the Caribbean and Live action remakes of their classic properties, it's not as if Tron 3 was that big of a risk.

So I was right. They just promised it first, and then said no. Never made financial sense. Anyways, sad. Wanted some more Olivia Wilde.

Even though Disney owns the rights, does anyone think the producers will shop the project around to rival studios if Disney will let them? They let Kosinski take Oblivion to Universal and let Walden Media take the third Narnia movie to 20th Century Fox. They would still get a cut of the profits but won't have to spend $150M plus P&A for the film.

In this market, it's hard to introduce or reintroduce new sci-fi or fantasy franchises besides comic book movies. The Fast/Furious series should be blessed buy the car culture is popular in general so that's win-win.

Comedies are the bread winners: low budget and mostly original. Evrn animation is getting to the point it's not sure fire thing, like with Home.

That's why in due time, things may start to cannibalize each other. I would say at the height of the next Avengers film and Justice League it'll be more obvious.

I think this was a smart decision by Disney. Some people have already said this on twitter and other message boards but I'll say it here; neither Hedlund or Wilde have become bigger stars, the director hasn't gotten any bigger either, it's been five years and Legacy wasn't exactly beloved. It would be a huge risk.

Who knows maybe they will revisit the property in the future, we will have to wait and see.

EDIT: Oh please Clooney didn't write that meandering film with a truly embarrassing preachy 3rd act. Bird and Lindy are to blame.

They are printing money with their remakes. Beauty and the Beast is going to destroy, and they already have Star Wars and Marvel.

Because of the amount of necessary CGI and quality of effects in general. The prequels were primarily green screen, and still cost a pretty penny 15 years ago.
