Superman Returns Tune into Mtv NOW

I hope that I'll buy that idea that Superman can lift an entire continnent and toss it into space.

I made me wonder about this: If Superman can hear everything that's happening on Earth when he's floating a space (seen in the trailers and on the poster), why can't he listen in to Luthor? Or did I miss something?

I find it hard to beleive he is actually struglling to save that plane, then he later lifts new krypton laced with keyptonite. hmmmmm

I'm willing to bet he only lifts a portion of it. Probably the main portion from where the crystal was dropped.

true but his facial expression says other wise, its not like he flyies infront and tries to slow it that way, which i presumes he does at the very end. I am just pointing out that th ehave to clear expalin why it takes superman forever to stuff a plane, but he can toss a continent past Jupiter. hmmm

Very good point, hopefully it will be fully explained.

Other than that, it'll be fantastic eye-candy :D :supes::supes:

Here's Brandon's interview at the MTV afterparty:

I love Routh... He is Clark Kent, period.

The girl asked if this was his first MTV movie awards (saying he was a virgin). She then says he's no longer a virgin now and he replies "don't tell my mom." Perfect casting.

For those who are wondering why Superman appears to struggle while stopping the plane - I think it's written that it is his first 'super' task since coming back to Earth, so I'm wondering whether he has enough stored energy from the Sun. In other words - I don't think he's at full energy after being in space for six years.

Bale is the man. He knows the character and respects the fans. Great acceptance speech.

That clip was also great - looks to be a tense scene, nice.

In regards to why Superman is struggling with the plane, but can lift something extraordinarily larger than that with the same amount of strength, well here's the deal: Superman holds back his strength 24/7, almost enough to the point where he forgets about the majority of his reserve of strength unless in moments of absolute extreme where it means victory or death. Now, the plane sequence, I assume what's really going on, is the writers just want to show the maximum amount of drama possible, by giving the audience a "oh no, Superman might not have what it takes", in order to have maximum effect, this is what was needed instead of having him fly infront of the plane and stop it with his pinky as if it were a cartoon. I'm one of the Superman fans that believes this character should be able to move a mountain with a grunt and a vein bulging on his face, but I also realise that for the whole American/World audience, they need to make scenes like this, more dramatic in the way they perfectly did. Now with the whole lifting you know what into outer space, this will most likely be one of those scenes where he is A: either Super Charged by the sun, or B: Completely pissed and exerting somewhat his full strength potential in order to get the job done.

PS: Thx for the vid links fellas.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around why the scientists or whomever see "life" on Krypton dont bother to tell Superman that what they're seeing happened thousands of years ago, anfd not in real time, before they send him off for 6 freaking years. Once I grasp that, I'll move onto Superman fighting a continent in the movie's climax....... oh well atleast it will LOOK cool.

So can anybody upload a high quality video of Bale and Routh

give me a break, of all superheroes, superman is the one who knows how to regulate his strength better than any one, so if he needs to stop the plane now, he could stop it, not trying and break of the wing.

lol, i could just imagine that scene they way you described it...

"OH NO! WE'RE GONNA CRASH!!!"
"what is THAT?"
"it's SUPERMAN!!!"

then Superman flies by, gives a nice lil' smile to the pilots and flies off. the plane takes a nose dive and Superman gets in front of the nose, stops it, and places it safely on the ground. Lois exits and says...

"thanks Superman, i wasn't scared for a moment because i knew you could stop the plane easily..."

OMG THAT WAS SO EXCITING!!!

the problem with the scene in the movie is that you have another scene at the end where he lift something tha tis a billion more tons than a plane and toss it past jupiter, not into space but past jupiter, do you know how far jupiter is. it is pure inconsistence of power

This is all rather simple, people. Just as our bodies grow, so does Superman. And as our bodies are typically influenced by our emotional states, so is Superman's. Plain and simple. It's the reason why we've seen mothers lift the back of a car to rescue their children, or people perform unimaginable feats in extreme situations.

Superman's about to watch his entire world, and the woman he loves, perish due to technology created by his own people. With his abilities, and the way they manifest on Earth, it could be an easy given that Superman was just that determined, angered, terrified, and desperate so as to push himself to that limit. Remember, after he does this, he falls back to Earth and crashes -- so he pushes himself TOO FAR either way. The explaination is there, you just have to look around the act to find it.

so basically...you want Superman to have the same amount of strength at the end than he did in the beginning?

what if Lex finds a plan that goes BEYOND Superman's strength level? what then? Superman's screwed....and we all know that Superman HAS to prevail. therefor...his strength increases. it's simple script writing...you have to keep the audience on the edge of their seats and you can't do that by having Supes stop the plane with his pinky.

not to mention....open space has no gravity. no gravity equals no force....no force makes things MUCH easier to push.

i know what it is, but i also know you just don't show a huge power jump from plane to contient past jupiter. we shall see, if its not explained well then it will be stupid.

i'd like to know how Batman was able to fight after he was badly wounded from his mansion being burnt down. they never explained that in Batman Begins...so i guess Batman saving the day was stupid also?
