Not saying rockers never stole a songs but thats all most rappers do. Couldn't they try playing some instruments (besides their voices). Also Elvis gave credit when he did cover songs etc. He didn't change the title of it and say it was a new song he wrote.

Ever hear of the Roots or OutKast or Cody Chestnut?

Hell turntablist are an art form on to themselves.

i can see where you are coming from cal... but in the hood thats all we folx got ..we cant afford instruments..... but we can steal..mixers and beatmakers...use our boys for beatboxes......rap is more like STREET POETRY...... i'll admit most of it is corporate garbage..but there are some that shine..and pac is one along with biggie..and jay....
and sampling pisses me off too...but everynow and then someone gets it just right.....

Please tell me this is sarcasim.

anyway... I like Tupac and all, but I think you guys have a really low standard of what's considered a musical genius. Mozart was a musical genius, not Tupac.

you're more of a purist and i respect that... but you cant deny pac's beauty...he didnt let anyone tell him what to write..and was a beacon for the ghetto..he made it cool to love our mommas and respect women...when everyone else was holla'ing eff a hoe

I hate Jay-Z.

Everything else while ..very umm..'stereotypically ghetto as you phrased it.' I agree somewhat.

Eye of the beholder.

I personally don't see anything special about Elvis, yet I get why white people love him so much.

:(

I love Jay-Z.

As for Tupac, I hesitate to call anyone a genius, but he definitely had a way with words. He had a lot of thought-provoking lyrics and poetry. Speaking of that, as much as I enjoy his poems, I really need to go out and buy his book of them...

Jay-Z is more businessman than anything else, he has some good commercial songs. Yet he can't even come close to Biggie,Nas,Tupac and Rakim when it comes to depth of lyrical content.

J is pop straight-up.

I agree.

I love Tupac's music. He was the best of his contemporaries. . .but a musical genius, that's pushing it. When I think of musical genius, I think Beethoven and Mozart:o Tupac is a lot of great things, including a hip hop legend, but he's no musical genius.

Use to like him when I was younger, but now I just can't seem to listen to him. He just raps about the same thing over and over on most of his songs.

I think he was bit of a idiot and could of done much better with his life, by this I mean it was his fault he ended up dead.

I have yet to hear anything he's written that's as thought provoking as Tupac or Nas when he's in the zone.

When I was younger the first time I ever heard about, the Kush empire or Axum and Joseph Sinke or Marcus Garvey was from Nas' lyrics.

If it was up to my history teacher back in the day, I'd never hear of these things. Funny it took a 'Rapper' to do that.

Jay-Z? I learned jack accept 'H to the izzo.'

It bugs me somewhat, if it was in the context of the 5 percenters like most of Wu-Tang then I'd have no issue with it, yet he's diffinately not a 'percenter' or even muslim.

He's is a guy riding off of Biggies coat tails.

^Yeah.
Sometimes, I think Jay-Z blows himself way out of proportion.
He isnt the baddest s*** either.
He just had more hit singles and resources than others.

Exactly! If Biggie was still alive, he'd still be hanging from a wire in a Jaz-O video.

^Absolutely.
I'm glad we see eye to eye on Jay-Z.

Beethoven and Mozart were musical geniuses no question. But I find it hard to believe there have been no musical geniuses for 200 years. The term shoudn't be applied to only musicians of that era. The style of music they wrote was just different fromm what is written now. I think John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen (Valen Halen wasn't that great but Eddie was an outstanding and original guitar player and did things nobody had ever seen) and Pac are geniuses in another genre. They were just as good at what they did as Mozart was at what he did. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that rock and rap are much different from classical music so therefore their kinds of genius are different. Lennon and Pac are geniuses in their own right as they excelled and did things nobody else had done. So in their own way they are all musical geniuses.
