Two-Face: Year One

I don't know, on one hand I would like to get movie tie-in stuff but on the other hand it always has bad art and pretty bad writing.I mean have you seen Batman Begins comic? Batman has some ******ed goofy smile at the end.

lol batman smiling is always creepy and yes...comic book fans, they are never satisfied. Well It could be worse, Wrestling Fans have short attention spans and only like a new wrestler an average of a whole month then they get tired of them

i think i'm with Joker on this one.... i'll be passing on this... i love Two-Face, but i already have The Long Halloween & Face the Face (which most bat-fans don't even give a chance) & i dunno something tells me this won't be great!

oh my god i know that art anywhere.... Don Kramer.... I have to have it!

Liked Countdown that much, did you?

I completely forgot he was involved with that. I dropped that trash after the second week. Everything else I buy is DC and independents though I've officially outgrown Marvel. I used to be a 50/50 buyer but not anymore.

I hear you. I've actually grown to be more accepting of Marvel, and I read Cap, X-books, Avengers, and Ghost Rider pretty religiously, but there's never any doubt that the MU is massively inferior to the DCU. When you boil them down, the DCU is hopeful and the MU is despair, and I think we all get quite enough despair in the real world.

I'm digging Marvel much more right now. At least they're moving forward, on everything except Spider-Man, while DC seems to be going the "no! we'll move back to the silver age! no progression! regression! I cant hear you! la la la la la!" approach, which I dont appreciate at all.

lol I think Dc is just messin with us on the whole Final Crisis- R.I.P Batman bull crap
yea It'll make more people mad that it was "all a dream" cope out but they're trying something new
and In my opinion If they really do kill bruce wayne...(at least for a while like superman) I'd be ok with it. It'll be new and more interesting stories
I could never ever relate to Marvel, They were Dark and DC was Light
X-men were dealing with racism and drugs and Superman and batman were just fighting villains lol I don't want the real world in my comics, I mean I want realism but not too real like I see wolverine talking about politics while he's in a spandex costume lol
only thing I like from marvel is spiderman (because it's hard to not love him) and Hulk, because Hulk is the strongest superhero in any universe, superman, batman, anyone else You can't stop him.I enjoyed World War Hulk

but anyways I can't wait for Two face - year one lol

i personally only really mostly read one shot stories..... i don't really follow continuity & EVEN I THINK THAT THIS FINAL CRISIS THING BLOWS....

that makes the 2nd crisis & the first one gave us the characters we know & love.... What the hell are they gonna do now?

I'm up in the air about FC I mean I really think Morisson wouldn't take on a project of that scale unless he has something interesting up his sleeve and he understands the DCU so it's on my radar. I was just thinking though this Two Face: Year One thing would've been infinitely more interesting if it covered Harv's first year as Two-Face.

Showing us his perspective when he first turned and how he felt like the Batman's way wasn't the way to properly dispell justice and bring Gotham back. Showing him as more of an anti-hero than a villain and how he felt he could right the wrongs and everything with a much larger time frame then what he had in TLH. That story still hasn't been told and would've been a much more interesting approach. I'm still copping it but it seems like a missed opportunity.

That's a great idea, would certainly be a very interesting story. You write, I'll draw. GO!!

You could argue that Dark Victory is "Two-Face: Year One" as you see it.

I think the best niche that's yet to be filled I've heard proposed is a story set BEFORE the "Harvey Dent becomes Two-Face" arc that's been covered so often. A story chronicling Dent's first year in Gotham, how he first came to know Batman, and how he gained his reputation as Gotham's "white knight", as The Dark Knight marketing puts it.

That's what I would like to see. I'd be especially interested to see how Batman first contacts Dent, and Dent's initial reaction to his proposed partnership. I really hope that's what this turns out to be, because I think that there's a hell of a story in there.

And as a huge Year One fan, I'd love to see the story involve/culminate in Batman dumping Falconi's Rolls Royce into the river to show Dent that he can get close to the Roman.

I think ending the story with Dent being disfigured and becoming Two-Face is the easy way out. A ballsier move would be to end the story on a big triumph for Dent, with him being celebrated as a hero of Gotham. It would create a quietly bittersweet feeling, knowing how far he's going to fall in the future.

Maybe even do an "Aviator" style storyline, where you have Harvey Dent battling mental issues to ultimately succeed against the odds. But then you end on the darker note that his demons aren't gone, they're merely biding their time...

End it with him visiting his fater in the mental institute, and his father giving him the coin.

I meant to type DV not TLH but as I said earlier just in a much longer time frame than in that story. Loeb didn't get to explore enough as he had so many other threads to take care of. I'm talking something more elaborate here with direct focus on Two-Face himself. I do like the idea of a series based around Harvey and Batman pre-Y1 meeting though. Just goes to show you how there are so many avenues to still explore with the character outside of the whole "victim of an acid attack" angle. This is my favorite of the Batman rogues partly due to his tragedy for once I'd like to see writers open up more about the type of stories they tell with him cause it truly has not been done enough.

does anyone remember Two Face _Jekyll and Hyde? where it turns out two face had a brother and died and Harvey's father blamed Him for it. It came out like last year, anyone remember? because I got one comic of the end of it but from what I saw it was awesome

Looks interesting, I shall be getting this.

Though I do wish more writers would realise you can tell a great Two-Face story without having to revisit Harvey's disfigurement - whether it be through a flashback story or through having him be "cured" and rescarred.

Hey Keyser...Mark Sable here, writer of Two-Face: Year ONe.

Glad you'll be buying this. Harvey's disfigurement plays a small role in the story, and I promise, no curing. That said, it's kind of hard to leave it out of an origin story. Although it would have been funny just to see Harvey show up scarred and everyone be like, "uh, Harvey, you okay?" "Long story..."

True! However, as memory serves me, there has never been a story covering his rise to power as DA. In Year One & The long Halloween he is just there. I wonder how much this will overlap and/or retcon that.

Your memory serves you well. The first issue deals with his fall more than his rise. We'll flashback to him in law school, but it's about Harvey's trying to enforce justice and run a clean election campaign in a corrupt town. It's Harvey vs. not only the mob and crooked cops, but even Batman whose very existence makes it hard for him to put people in jail.

The second issue is completely new stuff. It's Harvey as Two Face - STILL RUNNING FOR D.A. Still keeping things street level, but having him run an INSANE election campaign. His argument is that Gotham is so corrupt your more likely to get justice from a flip of a coin than a Gotham jury.

But both issues are almost entirely new stuff. I tried to remain as respectful to The Long Halloween and Dark Victory as I could without being repetitious, so I don't think there's really any retconning.

This is probably closer in town to Gotham Central more than anything else.

Nice of you to join the boards Mark, it's always awesome when creators come on here. One question...We gonna get any backstory on the coin? I know in Long Halloween Harvey mentions his father gave it to him while he was visiting him in the asylum/home/whater it was never really spelled out...I always thought that conversation would have been cool to see. Also, do you know of any plans for a Joker: Year One? As I said earlier, they did them for Ra's and Scarecrow to tie in with begins, but there are already alot of Joker stories set at the beginning of his career so it might be redundant.

The him running for DA as Two-Face thing is brilliant. Looking forward to picking this up.

This has been done. It's called THE LONG HALLOWEEN. :)

Well, when that came out you could have said that about Batman: Year One (and when that came out, you could have said...hey, didn't Bob Kane write an origin story already?)

See my response to Afro Man above...I really think this book is different in story and tone than Long Halloween and Dark Victory. I think the entire "Year One" period leaves a lot of room for great stories in Gotham. If I've done my job right you should feel like you are reading something that honors what comes before but is still fresh.
