Two Weeks in a Row of Box Office Surprises!

Movies WILL make less this year cause of the recession. Just the fact that only one movie this year so far has made over $100 million says it all. This time last year we had like 3 or more. However, having a bunch of big movies in May isn't a big deal. Three of the five top grossing movies for 2007 were May releases. So I think Iron Man, Indy, and some of the others will do big business.

were those Spidey 3, Shrek 3, and Pirates 3?

I have a feeling that this year's may releases won't do as well as last year's may releases though just because of the recession (as you mentioned above). I agree with that.

And the fact it's a G rated Kids movie says something.

I think in may the movies are gonna eat each other up.

I think those smaller films that are excellent in quality will eventually get noticed. It may not have a huge opening or even a decent run at the box office, but if it's good enough it will do well on dvd. And if it's Oscar worthy, it will garner enough attention for people to look it up and rent it.

I think Juno proved that little movies can do big business. You just gotta have a story that connects with people. Sarah Marshall was great but I think Judd Apatow needs to become more diverse. I think Pineapple Express will be a good departure for him.

Yup, that's a good example. Small movie with a huge profit in box office and dvd sales.

I hate that freaking movie! It's one of the most overrated films ever! Juno i mean.

*blows raspberry* *thumbs down*

You know what would really shock and awe people if Maid of Honor was Number 1 and Iron Man was too.

Awhile ago i would have said never in a million years. But after this month i say anything is possible.

Then after that Speedracer and What happens in Vegas crash into those 2 other movies along with previous other movies.

Then Naria comes barreling into the competion and one more week Indy cracks back into action.

So its movie after movie in a big orgy of a box office collison.

Oh yeah speakin of orgys Sex in the city comes out the next week.

and then after that its two comedies kung fu panda and don't mess with the zohan, then after that the happening and incredible hulk. Next week two more comedies love guru and great smart. Then the following is weird a action flick or a kiddie one. whos gonna win. Wanted or Wall*e?

One of the biggest summer surprises could be Hancock. It has will smith so he's always a hit.

Hell boy2 then the follwing week.

and finally then after that what everyones been wetting there pants over TDK.

that pretty much sums up the month of may concerning blockbuster movies. lol

It's the reason Midnight Meat Train was moved.

It's like that all summer long.

The movies people think are gonna make 300 or 400 million domestic isn't gonna happen.

It's a Clive Barker film, well the story is Clive's. It's going to be raw. :yay:

Buisness should pick up next weekend where the summer movie struely will begin and Iron Man its first day should make more then Baby Mama.

I think people may have been saving cash for the summer season. A lot of big movies coming out. A lot of money will be spent. But its not gonna be as big as summer `07.

true that holmes.

I do not know why but somehow I think most of the over hyped movies will end up disappointments because so many are expecting so much out of most of these movies

Yeah, that most of those films weren't huge or massive movies.

Fool's Gold, Step Up 2 The Street, 27 Dresses and 21...I don't see how anyone would think they would have made a grip at the BO.

I'm disappointed in the box office results, myself. America chose to watch Prom Night over Street Kings. Come on! Maybe it's because the movies that were #1 are PG-13 and have a wider audience compared to rated R movies. Or maybe America is getting dumber (afterall, Meet the Spartans was #1 a couple months ago).
Homh. I thought Baby Mama was R. Damn.

How come Deception opened 10th? Jackman & McGregor can't get people in the theaters? + It has hot ass Michelle Williams.

3. Tummien perhosten koti (The Home of Dark Butterflies) $1,344,089
4. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street $732,343
5. No Country for Old Men $713,818
6. Juno $681,580
7. Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! $659,616
8. Alvin and the Chipmunks $636,351
9. Astérix aux jeux olympiques $608,369
10. American Gangster $582,907
11. 8 päivää ensi-iltaan (8 Days to Premiere) $512,096

But we got most of the late 2007 movies in early 2008, so...
