I know it's just words right now. But I just wanna talk about the idea of it.

TYLER PERRY: I love Sci Fi, I love the Alien movies and the Alien franchise. I was very disappointed with Prometheus, but I love that whole franchise. Those are my favorite movies. I’m actually working on a sci-fi movie right now.

Can you tell us a little bit about that?

PERRY: No, but I’m writing a sci-fi movie that I’m really excited about.

Tyler Perry makes bad films, although I will admit I liked Daddy's Little Girls. I am not a fan of his, I criticize him a lot, and generally hate any time he puts out a film.

One of my large complaints is how he doesn't leave his comfort zone and makes the same movie over and over. So if he does this at least he'll do something different.

However, if it's expensive (like over $75 mill) I dont see this getting made or being in development hell for a long time.

Madea... in Space?

I, for one, would like to see Madea slap around a Xenomorph before getting disemboweled.

I'm in. :o

Whoever wins, we lose.

Now now...I am going to give the guy a chance. He might surprise us and actually make a really enjoyable sci-fi film. :)

LMAO It's funny because I can imagine Madea doing that to a Xenomorph. "Madea goes to LV-426".

I highly doubt that this film will be expensive. I say this because he's not going to be able to get the Black actors from Hollywood's A-List or B-List (except maybe one or two from the B-List) to appear in the film. Besides, none of them would be interested anyways. Instead he will fill the cast with C and D List Black actors with a few C-List white actors thrown in there for good measure and the budget will go down rapidly. It couldn't hurt though to have him cast Eddie Murphy for this movie. I think Murphy can easily benefit from a few Tyler Perry films (so could Wesley Snipes).

As a result, it'll probably end up as Madea in Space. That will mean that the film won't go into development hell and we'll probably see it in production next year with a budget of $20-$30 million. He might be able to reach $40 million if he wants a lot of that budget based on CGI. Getting Eddie Murphy to commit to a few of his films would be a big score for Tyler Perry.

He may be popular among African American audiences, but I have always questioned his popularity within Black Hollywood, which is a whole different topic.

This movie probably won't have anything to do with Madea or be another one of Tyler's Black movies. Seems like he's trying to expand into other genres, which could actually be refreshing.

Financially, he can bankroll a decent sci-fi epic with the money he has now. Not on par with Lucas obviously, but he could get ILM or someone if he wanted.

Hey, this guy is the head of Starfleet academy; surely he knows what he's doing. :woot:

This is literally what went through my head upon hearing this :o

But you know, whatever. It could be interesting. I agree with the OP, Perry's big problem has always been not getting out on his comfort, it's good to see him try that, at least, see where it goes.
