What good is our military if it cannot be used to stop mass genocide? What good is our society if no one cares?

Whats happening in Darfur is the biggest humanitarian crisis going on in the world at the moment. Its been happening for a few years. Its WAY more urgent than pissing around in Iraq.

The troops we're losing in Iraq must not be enough.

What part of this is a UN operation, not a US one are you not getting. The article hasn't stated which country will send the majority of troops.

Chances are that due to America's capabilities bogged down in Afghanistan and Iraq, most of the peacekeepers will come from places such as France, Pakistan, Italy, etc.

To just blame the United States for Africa and the Middle East's problems is just ignorant. The imperial European powers did much more to screw them over than the United States has. They were the ones who drew the borders. They were the ones who drained them of their resources. They were the ones who left prematurely.

Sure the United States took part in screwing them over, most particularly the Middle East, but what Europe did is practically a crime.

Actually nothing has been done for quite sometime in Darfur is because most of the world just simply pretended to care instead of actually caring and veto-wielding China pretty much allowed it to happen.

Do you think that providing America moral authority is any one of the purposes for the military. As much as I support action to prevent more killing in Darfur, you're just flat out wrong on preventing genocide is in America's best interests.

Everytime America has been to war it was to gain independence, self-defense, or in the name of American interests. That is the purpose of the military and it will always stay that way
