Great Millar issue. Loeb's Ultimates though... yeesh. Same soap opera crap from the last volume. And "The programme"? Is that just Loeb's backdrop reason for any superpowered anything now?

Just read New Ultimates #1 and I gotta admit I actually liked it. May not be the best comic I've ever read but its better than Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum. Anyone else agree with me?

As for Ult Avengers #5 all I have ta say is holy **** Red Skull is one badass villain! Another awesome issue.

Red Skull's Origin is indeed badass and i truly like how we're getting to see some Ultimate SUPER villains. Also here's some new info from Millarworld:
Sauce

- 3rd arc is called Vampire X & it's focus is Blade, New Daredevil, The Spider. War Machine's origin revealed more or less.
- 2nd and 3rd arc will have some Stark vs. Stark family drama.
- The Spider will only appear in 1 issue in the 2nd arc, and thats to explain how he's tied to Ghost Rider.


Seriously *who* could the Spider be? This is really getting nerd-wise anticipating... If he has connections to Ghost Rider... Then it's obvious he's the mainstream Peter Parker who ultimately became Mephisto! it's only obvious!

I may have not read the isuse, but i'm pretty sure you're talking about Power Man of Defenders... Judging by the Villain cover he does seem huge enough to be confused as a Hulk... Especially since Ultimate Universe is getting a "Hulk investation" with Millar having Nerd Hulk and the upcoming African American Hulk, wheres Loeb has Bruce Banner Hulk for Ultimate X. Wonderr if we'll ever see She-Hulk again.

What kills me is Loeb's books sell incredibly well, he's right up there with Bendis, Millar, and Geoff Johns. Its baffling how many fools out there buy this guy's work.

hearing that it's better than ultimates 3 sounds good to me. i actually liked ultimates 3...it grew on me.

Ultimates 3 did get better, but the dialogue was so freakin' bad. I mean, that whole bit with Hank Pym where he's like, "If she's the mother, than I'm the mother ******". I was halfway between a facepalm and hysteria.

Regardless, I'm staying away from Loeb Ultimate Universe wise for a while.

New Ultimates #1 truthfully was not horrible. It's boring and all set-up, and yes, the females are all rather objectified, but c'mon - it's freaking Frank Cho. Duh? The issue is better executed than Loeb has done in the past, but it doesn't hold a candle to Millar's Ultimate stuff, past or present.

Did anyone notice in Ultimate Avengers #5 - and I don't have the issue in front of me to get a page count, but give me a day or so and I'll be able to do so - Nerd-Hulk being referred to by one of the characters as [blackout]Bruce Banner[/blackout]?

Nerd Hulk is more or less Bruce Banner. He's a clone that's just permamently in a Hulk body but has the condition of Bruce. Like Captain America said: You took away his edge! Not to mentiont he DNA would identify him as Bruce, and it's not like Steve knows the codename is "Nerd Hulk".

My thoughts exactly. It comes nowhere close to Ult Avengers but it not the total pieces of **** that Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum was. I'm willing to give it a chance and get the next issue but if we have another "I guess that makes me the mother****er!" moment than its gonna get dropped so fast.

I love how you're the Loebist, but you're still buying his Ultimates stuff because you are a completist. They've got you by the gonads, and they know it.

lol yes it is my own personal hell. Thats why I make sure that I get USM and Ult Avengers to help numb the pain. But just by going off the first issues of Ult X and New Ultimates it looks like Loeb is atleast trying now. Still doesn't make up for killing my two fav characters though.......****ing bastard.

I just have a feeling Loeb's gonna mess up with Ult. X or he'll use a cop out on an arc in New Ultimates that would piss me off. I'll wait and see how things end up on both accounts. I still respect Loeb and admire his classic work - but right now I'm not buying anything from him til he gets his head on straight.

And, yeah, I knew you'd like Season 6. Glad you've been blasting through it. We need to IM talk soon...you know much now...

Aslong as Ultimate X is about optimistic hope in a terrifyuing world and not much of "X-men-esque action" i think i'm happy. Since the characters are mostly teenagers i hope this doesn't mean we get teenager melodrama.. Infact has anyone here seen Heroes episodes by Loeb? How we're they?

Oh and i read Warren Ellis' Ultimate Human. 'tis a fun mini. It introduces Ultimatimized Leader and the story is truly about "ultimate human" which are Tony Stark and Bruce Banner.
