I have compiled a 1024 movie tournament complete with brackets and pictures. I've been doing this since I was 12 so I am in no way copying anyone. Before I go ahead and proceed with the tournament I would like to see what the intrest is and what the participation level would be.

Allow me to explain the rules and standards used in the selection process.

1. The Selection Process
The movies included range from 1939-2007. The selection process was a long and difficult one but I think I have done a fair job. I tried to include any movies that people could possibly argue as the best movie ever. There may be some notable omissions, specifically older movies, but this is the 21st century so I was not to faithful to movies pre-1980's. Certain movie franchises(Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street) only include the first film for there simply weren't enough spots in a 1024 movie tournament. Unless I was going to include every movie ever made I had to draw the line somewhere. Things I considered when picking the movies were personal preference, fans opinion, critics reviews, awards, special effects, originality, and profit.

2. Seeding
I wrestled with this for awhile as to how to determine seeding. I felt I needed some sort of formula rather than just personal preferences. In the long run I suppose it doesn't matter because 'the cream always rises to the top.' Anyhow, I first alphabetized the entire list and then broke down each letter group in descending order according to release date. I used both alphabetical and numeric methods because I couldn't decipher which would be more accurate in determining the true #1, so I used both. Movies with numeric titles were placed at the top. In seeding I simply pitted the top of the list against the bottom of the list...

EX: 2001: A Space Odyssey(1968) vs. Zodiac(2007)

..and so on.

3. Rules
The rules are simple. I will post a match-up and you will vote for one or the other. Given the number of matchups(1023) involded each battle will be open for only 2-3 hours. Otherwise, we would be here for years. Once the voting is closed for a match-up the votes will be tallied and a winner determined. The winner will advance to the next round and the loser will go back to the vault.

The first vote will be: Would you participate in the Ultimate Maximum 1024 Movie tournament?

1024??!?!?! damn. this should be fun, I'm in. One suggestion though, i think for the time we reach 100 movies or so the voting time should be more than 2-3 hrs, due to the fact that not everyone will be able to vote in such a small period of time. just a suggestion though.

I may extend for the later rounds.

Round 1: 2-3 hours(most of them are easy picks anyways)
Round 2: 4-5 hours
Round 3: 5-6 hours
Round 4: 6-7 hours
Round 5: 7-8 hours
Round 6: 8-9 hours
Round 7: 9-10 hours
Round 8: 10-12 hours
Round 9: 24 hours
Championship: unlimited

***As an added bonus***
Any movie(s) not in the tournament that one feels legitimately deserved to be
will be placed in a consolation tournament following the determination of the winner. The winner of the consolation tournament will go against the winner of the Ultimate Maximum 1024 Movie Tournament. This will help eliminate all doubt as to the best movie of all time, at least according to the people on the SuperHeroHype Boards.

If Socko's in, so am I.

This poll closes tomorrow afternoon and I am hoping for at least 10 'yes' votes. I'll probably end up doing it anyways but 'the more the merrier.'

Sorry... with 1024 movies... You should be including things pre-1939... For example you should be including the following movies Frankenstein (1931), Scarface (1933), Nosferatu (1922), Birth of a Nation (1915), Duck Soup (1933), City Lights (1931), I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932), Dr. Caligari (1920), Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926), Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs (1937), Bringing up Baby (1938), Metropolis (1929) The General (1927), King Kong (1933), Angels wtih Dirty Faces (1938) and Battleship Potemkin (1925).

I am doing a Movie Battle Tournament but i like to see someone elses Movie Battle Tournament. We likely won't be the same just make sure we don't select the same movies. Other then that go for it.

I considered it but those movies kind of suck in most peoples opinions. The percentage of people who would watch these movies over any on the list is so small it's almost not worth mentioning. Are they classics? To my grandma. If you think these should be on the list then you obviously think they have a chance at winning but I'm sorry, Deuce Bigelow is more entertaining than any of those you mentioned. Call me a stupid boob but I'm honest and thinking for myself. A case can be made for King Kong but that's why I put the all new and improved remake on the list. Scarface? We got Pacino dude. Metropolis is one I almost put on and I still may the problem is I made this tournament for casual movie fans too, not just movie buffs, and most won't know any of these movies or vote for them for that matter. They would have been wasted brackets.

Just wondering, do you know the 1939 movie I have on the list off the top of your head?

THis list isn't worht my time for that simple sentence alone... If Deuce Bigelow is on this list... Bye :(

To many films :o

I trust you were the 'no' vote? It's really not as much as it may sound, seven spacious pages on WordPerfect. If printed out and handed to someone they could complete in an hour or two. You must be a busy man to think it's too much.

I could have went to 2048 and maybe even 4096. I don't think I could have reached 8192 though.

Why the supposedly random numbers?

Can you not just do 1000? or 2000?

It's odd that these particular numbers are coming out of the blue.

Any reason why those numbers and not others?

YOu obviously aren't a sports fan. The way brackets work are the number of teams(movies) must always double. You won't run in to the problem of having a 30 movie tourny and then getting down to five movies and not knowing what to do. The number of seeds for a proper tourney go in this order: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2028, 4056, 8112, etc..

The NHL and NBA use 16 team tourneys. MLB goes with 8 teams. The NCAA basketball is 64 teams.

Sports are okay if you've experienced the feeling of giving it your all in a game and succeeding and winning, even if only a couple times. I imagine for someone who never played sports they would be boring. Still, sports are far more overexposed than movies in major market cities(New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, and Boston) and I'm really getting sick of them. I think it's more the announcers and broadcasters that are annoying me than the sport itself. Don't hate sports or athletes, hate those damn broadcasters and 'sports experts.'
