Ultimatum Begins!

I'm really loving this book and it's "anything goes" style which, as I've said before, is what has been missing from the Ultimate universe for a very long time.

The Ultimates was NEVER about "anything goes". It's purpose was to 1) tell the story of The Avengers in a more realistic and modern setting, 2) untie the characters to 60+ years of backstory, and 3) retell the origins of your favorite heroes and villains.

It was never meant to be random, senseless deaths and lack of character development.

Millar= The Ultimates
Loeb= Rape of The Ultimates

Ultimate Marvel is essentials becoming Marvel: Ruins after all these years.

exactly! that is why I liked it.. I loved the retelling of thor and making his godhood ambiguous... I wanted to see a series about thor being almost like a hippie viking jesus...He hung out at raves and would spread peace...damn it...that would have been cool viking hippie

Just read issue 3. God, this is so painful. All the deaths are totally ridiculous and pointless but Hank's was too much. This whole thing screams "restarting the universe" but still :down:

i still can't get over tony's first line in the 1st issue having to with a martini bath.

Check the trash can :o

But seriously, it's just like reading the obituaries section of the newspaper.

Between the main Ultimatum book and UXM, a heap of people have bit the dust. I'm reading UFF now and Idk about USM.

Rumor about USM is Peter is either going to die or become somehow unable to be Spider-Man for a while, and Jessica Drew will take over. I actually really want to see how Bendis would pull that off, as the only readable thing from Ultimatum has been the USM tie ins.

well, if it ends up debuting as ultimate comics spider-woman we'll all know, won't we?

BS!!! i'm so tired of his hard on for jess drew...

It won't be permanent, and Ultimate Jessica Drew is completely different than Peter. Change is not always bad. If Loeb were writing this, I would share your trepidation, but Bendis is a very talented man, and this book is his baby. I'm willing to give him a chance before condeming.

if only the new artist for USM didn't suck

As I said in the other thread, while he's not on par with Bagely and Immonen, the guy they have taking over isn't BAD. Compare his art to anything from Ultimates 3, and you'll see that at the very least he has an idea of human anatomy, pacing, and expression. He can tell a story with his art, which is more than Joe Mad can do.

oh, i've hated ultimate spiderman from day one regardless...i just don't enjoy the book. i don't enjoy most books bendis does, but that's not my complaint here. my complaint is that he shoe-horns jessica drew (be it 616 or seemingly now ultimate) into 70% of the books he writes...if she fits or not.

Jessica Drew was set up, Loeb was supposed to use her, didn't, and now Bendis is doing something with her. Actual FANS of USM have been wanting to see her back since she was introduced. And Ultimate Jessica Drew is only Jessica Drew in name, she's much more a female version of Ben Reily than anything.

Shes really the Ben Reilly of the ultimate universe, she was the only clone to survive the clone saga. Really hope she does take over for a while and than stays around once Pete comes back.

The Johnny Storm flirting with her thing a couple issues ago was incredibly uncomfortable, seeing as how she is exactly like Peter, just in a girls body. Meaning that Johnny is secretly attracted to Peter, and that Jessica is a huge lesbo.
