Why are we even talking about top billing equaling more screen time when you all know it means nothing? Cheadle is billed above Taylor-Johnson and Olsen and we know the twins will play a bigger part than Rhodes in the film.

...I didn't know. That's why I asked.

This has been posted in a few other threads, but I don't think it's been posted here and it deserves to be. Hemsworth gets Thor's reaction right on the nose with this, just that fall of his face as he sees Mjolnir nudge ever so slightly, he nails it :funny:

I found this very interesting because if he's able to move it, why wouldn't he be able to lift it?

I mean, the guys trying to lift it in a pissing contest should prove that none of them are worthy.

Well it's like you are worthy or you are not. It implies Cap is just a wee bit worthy.

Also worthiness is iffy when it comes to the hammer. Remember that it's magic comes from Odin. Odin may be a wise King but he is still an Asgardian like his son. A pissing contest may show worthiness.

I think Cap IS worthy, usually
but trying to show off and getting involved in, like y'all said, a pissing contest, it makes him just a hair unworthy

if he tries it in the middle of battle and defending his friends and/or planet, I don't think he'd have any issue lifting it

only time will tell in the MCU

The Idea that someone who is capable of taking out Thor one on one would somehow fall to cap even with the hammer is wishful thinking..
Thor would have already used it to its full potential and he is much more experienced and powerful than cap...

If Cap and Thor are in the same circumstances I think you're right... but if Cap has Mjolnir and some sort of tactical advantage I see no reason why he wouldn't be able to deliver a critical blow to a threat.

Indeed. We went through the whole "ZOMG RDJ got top billing=most screentime" fiasco 3 years ago with The Avengers, lets not repeat it.

Because that would be disrespectful to both Thor and the rest of the Avengers. "Saint Cap is oh so perfect and awesome in every way that he's not only the only one who can lift the hammer, but he can beat someone with it when even Thor cannot." I hate that Mary Sue crap that they do with him in the comics, I don't want to see it in the movies as well.

Probably because Thor is sitting right there alive and capable to lift it too.
There can only be ONE Thor at a time. If Thor were incapable of picking Mjolnir up I'm sure Steve would be able to.

wasn't Thor alive and well when Beta Ray Bill lifted it?

:yay: Thor has something special within him that cap does not and that makes him worthy...
Lets just leave it at that...
Caps has always had his signature Shield and Thor his Hammer...
That's how it needs to be kept...

I've mentioned this before on other threads, but I still think 'being Asgardian' may also be a part of being worthy enough.

Tbh, even as a Thor fanboy I don't mind someone like Captain America lifting it. Odin didn't enchant the hammer "Only Enlightened Thor may wield this hammer" - the enchantment allows for others as worthy to wield it. And I'd rather it be someone like CA.

I do like Vartha's reason too - if you lift the hammer you get Thor's power, not Mjolnir's, and Thor is sitting right there, all powered up.

I'd like to think that scene is a hint.

What if Thor, being a priority target and all, is what the villain focused a lot of power on, until Thor becomes incapacitated. Villain then proceeds to screw everyone else up, and Steve loses his shield.

Villain doesn't consider Steve to be any more of a threat, and moves on to the others, but Steve, always the fighter, decides to at least try the hammer that happens to be in range, and surprise surprise, it accepts him with no problem, especially given the circumstances.

Villain has his back turned, but notices the burst of energy behind him. Before he can turn around and attack, Cap lays down a powerful blow that turns the tables and allows other capable Avengers to put on pressure until Thor gets back on his feet. Steve returns the hammer to its master and the two of them go in for the final strike as brothers in arms.

At least that's how I'd like to see it. Steve gets a his moment, but it's not the deus ex machina that's the sole reason the villain is defeated. Instead it's just a bad ass opener that allows the final assault from everyone else to happen.

 And once again Thor would be someone's B**** and have to be saved...
And we would have the endless "See Cap would do better than Thor with the hammer debate..
I would prefer we at least see Thor do something with the hammer that would make us sh** our pants before we start passing the hammer around from one Avenger to the other...

I can push a car, doesn't mean I can lift a car.

I have a question about people who cosplay as Thor. Why is it that(at least in my own observations) I see a lot more ladies cosplaying as female Thor? Is it because it's easier due to the hair or something? And don't say it's because there's a new female Thor in the comics as I know this has been a thing even before that.

Agreed. But for some fanboys, captain mary sue has to be the best at everything. Not only he ''must'' lift Mjolnir (otherwise he would be useless against powerful enemies), but he should also be better than Thor while using it.

If the rumors about Jane dumping Thor off-screen is true, then that makes me feel more bad for the character.lol

I mean overall, if there's been any one character that's been mistreated/mishandled the most in the entire MCU, it would definitely be Thor.

Loki is considered more popular than Thor's character and his Phase 2 film is currently the lowest rated one out of the entire MCU franchise.

And after having spent two films trying to portray Natalie's Jane Foster as the "love" of Thor's life, it ends off-screen.lol

It kind of sucks that Thor 3 is like the last chance that the MCU has in getting Thor "right" before Chris leaves the role for good.

It's a shame too because Hemsworth is great in the role. And he hasn't even reached his full potential because the character he is playing hasn't been given the opportunity.

It's ironic because one of Lokis issues is he is overshadowed by Thor. That is just one reason they should try and make Thor as badass as possible, there is still 3-4 films to turn it around though. It only took one film for people to realise Cap is awesome.

I still don't buy the Jane dumping Thor angle, I mean they took the time to show Thor returning to her at the end of TDW plus she showed she was willing to sacrifice her life in a vain attempt to shield him from the falling ship and we are suppose to think that Oh well they just break them up off screen like none of this ever happened? ..
Portman (Jane) and the audience deserve's better treatment than that...
And trying to get them back together in Thor 3 would waste valuable time and take away from the coming threat...
Thor could quite possibly be keeping their relationship very secretive and low key for her own protection since they are dealing with the very dangerous remnants of Hydra..
So her appearing in public with other men could very well be an act...

Agreed. Like many others, Jane and the interns are my least favorite part of the Thor series. Which is unfortunate, because I really do like Natalie Portman. Even though I’d like to see less of Jane, I’d rather she get a proper and valid send off, rather than an off-screen write-out. They’ve built the relationship up too much to simply dismiss it with a few lines. Hopefully they’ve got a valid excuse for her absence in AOU, and then find a creative way to minimize her character’s presence in Ragnarok.

For starters I think the Thor films, especially the first one, have a lot of female appeal. Which is not to suggest that men and women are totally separate demos who enjoy stereotypically masculine/feminine films just that in general it seems that I see the a lot less love for guy fans for the movie than girls.

Second, if you are going to go as Thor and you are a guy it helps to have size on your side. As a girl, people don't expect you to be huge, so you can pull of passing as Thor. Personally I think that if you love a character enough to put the time and effort into a costume than you should rock that cosplay regardless of size, gender, race, ect. But a lot of people do try and look as close to the character as they can, so if you're a small dude I can see that holding you back from going as Thor. On the other hand, female-to-male crossplaying is pretty well accepted, and the standards are different enough that you can be rather petite and still "pull off" a woman!Thor.
