I'm not as familiar with Thor from the comics, but if he could always channel lightning from is body without using his hammer then why does he even need to use the weapon in the first place?

Because it's a hammer...and very powerful? and let's him fly?

Now if only we can get Kevin Feige or the next director of Thor to read it, then maybe they would actually should Thor channeling his powers without Mjolnir. :shr:
Thor Kicks Hercules' butt in the story. lol Knocks him silly with lightning bolts, sort of like using them to punch with lol

They HINT that he flies without it in Darkworld, he threw Mjolnir at Destroyer while remaining in the air (yeah one can argue that was inside a hurricane) I think Thor can fly on his own in the MCU

Well based off of Thor 1, I'd assume his flight was really all him and not the hammer, because he hovered in the tornado without twirling it, and regardless of the wind, if he needed the hammer he would've needed it to stabilize himself in the whirlwind

But in TDW, they made it pretty clear he cannot fly without the hammer, when he jumped off the balcony and the hammer came and carried him away, and also when he takes the tube to get back to the battle at the end while hammer-less

Avengers made little indication either way

True, hadn't thought about all the falling

Thor can't fly without Mljonir in the MCU. It was made pretty clear by TDW. However, how he hovered inside a tonardo in the first film, I don't know.

Nothing is clear, in Ragnarok they could show him just hovering in the air, it's all about what writers want to do at the time. The TDW writers thought it'd be fun to have him sliding down the building and having to get the underground, I doubt they were thinking too much about what Thor did in Thor 1.

clearly the writers weren't thinking about much.

He didn't throw it at destroyer while he was in the air. He threw it before he made the tornado.

THat's not true. He was whirling at above him like a helicopter. He blocked it and thus had to stop twirling, but we can chalk that up to...plot, or the tornado. Thor's flight comes from the hammer in the MCU. There's no other way to really see it, I don't think.

well he swung his hammer to hit the destroyer blasts and whatnot, and the wind would blow him all around if he couldn't control his flight without the hammer
in the first film it was vague, but regardless, TDW settled it that he cannot.. the wrong choice IMO but what can ye do

hence why I said we can chalk it up to plot. If they wanted to suggest that Thor could fly without it, there would have been a moment that made that clear. So with us questioning Thor 1, and TDW settling he can't I think we're just being a bit optimistic about Thor 1 :P.

Alas, all ye can do is hope that we see Thor take off without Mjnolnir after channeling that lightning through him, and elevating to about 700 feet in the sky in the middle of a massive lightning storm...to which Cap just says.. "woah"

:thor:

Well at least we know he can leap pretty high without Mljonir. When he was running toward Malekith after he unleashed the aether, he made a pretty tall leap before grabbing onto Mljonir mid-air. I actually prefer that Thor use Mljonir for flight rather than the he can fly "just because" like Ultimate comic Thor.

So glad that Whedon kept Thor's look from TDW (with only making minor adjustments like using silver tinting as opposed to the gold one from TDW).

I was not a fan of Thor's look from "The Avengers" so this really makes up for it.

^ yeah! I much prefer the chain mail legs and medieval guard (it has a name, but can't remember it) rather than the biker pants and plastic armour look from Avengers.

Lol thor has worn different battle armor in each film

Not to mention, Malekith apparently grew after unleashing the Aether

and Thor's on an arc that peaks a bit higher than Malekith's new height (whatever that measurement is exactly), so Thor's got some pretty good jumping legs there. He's no Hulk, but I'd like MCU Thor to at least have physical showings that put Captain America to shame.

Well given that Thor can manhandle Loki, who was able to manhandle Steve in "TA", that's not surprising.lol

Would be nice if he'd wear his helmet for once. Maybe he'll wear it for Ragnarok since, it's the end and everything.

Yep, not to mention Thor crushed the ground from the force of his jump.

Thor blocked a punch from Hulk, that tops all of Caps strength feats combined.

Not to mention crushing Iron Man's armor with his bare hands.

:halo: Careful..Cap fans are a little sensitive to remarks like that...
Some would have you believe that cap would win in a prolonged battle with Loki..

i love cap to death!! but he would not come out of that fight alive. loki got slammed by the hulk and lived to grunt it off and sported minimal scratches for it. a human wouldve been applesauce after that obviously lol asgardians be durable as heck yo haha

as a big Cap fan I agree he most likely could not win that fight. But I dont see Cap get manhandled all that much in what we saw. Captain America never gives up no matter how bad things get.
