Universal Monsters

I have seen the bottom one a lot. I always liked that. The sculpture is pretty awesome though

That second pic is an official redesign of it, but I don't remember from what time frame or project date it's from. I personally also somewhat like the design from CftBL the Musical did for their live show a couple of years back.

I also love almost all the McFarlane toyline redesigns.

Thanks for the info. I like to find behind-the-scenes stuff from old SF/horror movies, especially character designs, and those pics are the ones that pop out most often considering CftBL reboot.

I saw clips from CftBL musical on YouTube, Gill-Man costume is pretty good actually.

Yeah, those were nice.
So far, I collect only Diamond Select Universal monsters, though. Cool sculpts, iffy paint. Their Frankenstain and the Bride from black and white three-pack, Metaluna Mutant and Kay Lawrence are my favorites of those I own so far.

Re-decorated my office to be Universal Monster themed. Didn't know there was a whole thread about my favorite movie things ever. Definitely buying this next month. All 30 Universal Monster movies. **** yeah

Yeah that complete collection looks amazing. It's only missing the 1925 Phantom of the Opera (which is odd because it's by far the more famous and popular of the two). I will wait however for the Blu-Ray version, which I would hope comes soon.

Based upon Universal's recent "monster push" I'm guessing that their new UMCU will consist of:
Dracula
Frankenstein's Monster
The Bride of Frankenstein
The Wolf-Man
The Mummy
The Creature from the Black Lagoon
The Invisible Man
The Phantom of the Opera

What's weird about the Universal Monsters is I always see the alien from This Island Earth as being part of Universal Monster collection. That mutant alien thing is one of the Funko Pop figures coming out and there's a Diamond Select figure of the alien as well. They should do a blu ray release of that flick. I'd buy it up.

Yea, the Universal monster movies go deeper than the big 5 (Dracula, Mummy, Frankenstein, Wolfman, Gill Man). It would be cool to have many references peppered throughout to the more distant flicks.

I'm sick of the "romantic"-prettyboy-Dracula-crap. Read the original novel...Dracula is pure evil.

Someone should make a faithful adaptation of the book. No, Francis Ford Crapola's Dreckula doesn't "Count"..:woot:

F.F. Crapola: "The novel is good, but there's too little sex in it!:csad: When I read novels about old, undead guys with sharp teeth and bad breath, I expect to be turned on!:waa: why can't the women be ****s? And Jonathan Harker is nothing like that guy from that Bill and Ted movie...boooring!"

*Sound of Bram Stoker turning in his grave*

But I'll give Dracula Unborn a chance anyway...

That's why my favorite Dracula's are Lugosi or Lee. They were still attractive guys but they were evil . Not misunderstood, not trying to be good but forced to do bad things, no sparkles, no brooding in the shadows crying, etc. While their films took cautions with the original story, and they didn't have the FX we have today, they're still my favorite representations of the character.

Then again, I grew up in the 80s and 90s when vampires were still portrayed as bad for the most part with exceptions like Angel and Forever Knight. The whole pretty boy nice guy vampires of the 21st century are kinda lame to me but that's a product of my age.LoL.:woot:.

So is Dracula Untold a part of this connected universe?

What do we call as a "success" for Dracula Untold?

But it would be great to see Luke Evans popping up in the other Monster flicks.

thanks for bringing those toys up, i remember those toys fondly

the Dracula was awesome

The budget is around 100 million, so i guess a success would be more than 200 million, as films nowadays need to make in least twice their budget back in order to be profitable. 300-400 million would be pretty impressive for this type of film.

They were vague about it, but they did mention something about Orci evaluating all projects currently at some level of production to see if they could or would fit. I'm kind of hoping for that Last Voyage of the Demeter (Neil Marshall was interested in directing) getting folded into this bigger project

Yes! It's among my favorite "horror for kids" films. And it had the best redesign of Gill Man so far.

By the way, does anybody knows are these professional concepts for CftBL remake or fanart?

Are there more concepts from failed CftBL projects?

The Kerry Gammill one (no.5) was an official concept piece from some years ago.

I know the Wolfman will always be remembered as Lon Chaney Jr.'s classic portrayal in the 1941 film and beyond...but what do you guys think of Universal's first take on lycanthropy: Werewolf of London (1935)?

I've only seen bits and pieces of it and was intrigued. I purchased the complete collection and Werewolf of London is included and I plan on watching it this weekend. Just wanted to hear some thoughts.

I recently bought Dracula, Frankestein, The Mummy, Bride of Frankenstein and The Wolf Man on Blu-Ray. They have fantastic picture quality for movies that old. I did have them on DVD already but it was worth to upgrade. I recommend. I'm planning to buy Creature from the Black Lagoon soon.

The blu ray transfers of those old Universal Monster movies are really spectacular. Dracula in particular is pretty mind blowing. My old DVD copy had this horrible hiss throughout, and they scrubbed it clean for the blu ray release. I'm happy Universal isn't forgetting their monsters.

OctaviusINC, Werewolf of London is my favourite werewolf film - IMO it is much better than Chaney Jr.'s Wolf Man!

The Wolfman takes at least half an hour to get into any kind of supernatural theme, but WOL gets hopping straight away.

I read complaints that Hull's werewolf takes time to put on outer garments when he is supposedly a wild beast - but they do not consider that Chaney's ww takes time to put on a shirt, tuck in his t-shirt and then go out killing - this just isn't shown on the screen.

WOL is highly atmospheric and deserving of a higher place in Universal's Monster Universe!

Meet the Lykoi Werewolf Cat:

THIS IS A REAL CAT FOLKS - INCREDIBLE!

Awesome, Gort! Looking forward to seeing the film in its entirety. Thanks for your thoughts!

Chaney's makeup was great and also iconic.

But Hull's werewolf just reeked of atmosphere:
