I liked the idea behind 2010's Wolfman. It wouldn't have been out of place set in Coppola's Dracula world so I really appreciated that.

If given the choice I'd rather a verse built out of those type of settings rather than what we're getting. Both TV and film in recent times have shown that fantastical period pieces can be successful if the effort has been put in.

One of my main concerns listening to the people in charge of this is the assumption that a modern day setting and application is the key to making this work. It's not.

Studios will look for reasons why something underperformed, even if they're not entirely true. Evans certainly wasn't the worst thing about DU but the approach was just all wrong. At least now they can read think Dracula's place in the universe.

I'm more peeved about losing Charles Dance tbh.

I think it would've been cool to have them both in this universe, going forward, but oh well. I do wonder who they might be looking at for the new Dracula though. If they're casting names like Cruise, Crowe, Depp, The Rock, Bardem, that's some star power right there, and so I would expect no less for freakin' Dracula.

Before stepping back to become producer, he originally wanted to direct Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and I believe there may have been talk of him doing a Wolfman film at one point. None of it materialised of course, but what could have been...

I think it would've been cool to have them both in this universe, going forward, but oh well. I do wonder who they might be looking at for the new Dracula though. It will always be one of those castings that excites me. Gary Oldman is the Dracula of my childhood and no-one has come near him since in terms of portrayal....I guess mostly because that until Dracula Untold, the character seemed to be relegated to either tv movies or hollow efforts on the big screen.

No-one since Coppola has treated the character with the awe that he inspires or the care that he is due, so I'm at least looking forward to this latest go around. My personal preference is for the character to go back to his roots.

If we're talking names that wouldn't be out of place alongside Crowe and Cruise, Viggo Mortenson would probably be near the top for me. Fassbender as well. They'd be realistic, gettable and above all suitable options.

On a lower tier, Tom Hiddleston, Mads Mikkelsen and Ben Mendelsohn would be interesting contenders for me.

I never knew that, that would have been great to see. In a lot of ways his film came the closest we've had for a faithful adaptation.

I mean, we know Universal is world building. But to what? With Marvel you had The Avengers as an end-game. What is Universal's end-game? Do the monsters unite to fight someone (Dracula, perhaps)? I mean...I just don't see where its going other than "they exist in a shared universe...umm...neat."

Okay. But again, what is that building toward? I just don't see any goal/end-game for this shared universe.

That said, I think it'll be a moot point. I think The Mummy is going to underperform (if not outright bomb), effectively killing the Universal Monsters shared universe.

The Invisible Man, maybe? Actually, I have no idea. There have been all these casting announcements and rumors but I haven't heard of anything concrete beyond this Mummy movie that no one really seems interested in. And it's not a good sign that they appear to be giving away key plot details in the trailers and clips.

Anyway, yeah, I don't know what they're building towards here either. I suppose a Monster Squad-style team-up thing with all of the monsters might be in the cards, But if that's the case, here's to hoping that they carefully build the universe first like Marvel did instead of just BvS the whole thing with the second movie.
