Unused Spider-Man 2 Script

Well, the major difference is Ock's character. He's younger--more like Peter. Akward. Also his relationship with MJ. It is the catalyst for the troubles between Ock and Spidey (oh, and he's nuts).

I enjoyed it. Not that I would have liked it on the screen anymore than the filmed version, but it had its moments.

There is a thread on this in the Spider-man Sequels thread but it pobably should've been posted here. I was stoked it got online finally, and it was a joy to read but I definately think the final script they ended up using was superior. Chabon's draft reads like it was written by someone who never wrote a script before. Chabon's script has its moments (some of which they kept) but it made me appreciate the finished movie all the more. It'd be cool if David Koepp's and Gough & Millar's drafts made it onto the net next. Those drafts were supposed to have more super villains.

I also think it's noteworthy that the two early storylines that Avi Arad mentioned not liking in the DVD documentary (young Doc Ock/MJ/Peter triangle and Harry putting a bounty on Spider-man) are present in Chabon's script.

I only read a little bit of it, but the bad outweighed the good. Harry's first appearance was so cheesy, cartoon levels of security.

I have not read the whole thing yet but am interested. I love reading unused scripts gives a little more in sight to the production process

Well. For me, Chabon's draft is better than Sargent's. :word:

I think the only part I liked about that was the parts they kept. It didn't seem like something that was passable as a sequel to the original. I'm happy they went the way they went.

A younger Ock would've been odd. I always saw Ock as a mentor to Peter and when you make him his age, that fades away.

I downloaded this earlier and thought, "Thank God this one ended up in the little round file under Raimi's desk."

My chief beef was the whole Otto/MJ pairup. Excuse me, I was under the impression that superhero movies should stay true to the mainstream comics. Leave the unusual pairings to the crazy fangirls like yours truly out at fanfiction.net.
