US woman arrested over dry lawn

1. It's gonna cost a lot more to jail her than the city would make off her paying a fine.

2. It's standard for an officer to go on ad leave whenever they are involved in a physical confrontation while the investigation is ongoing.

Maybe they need to call you in, because apparently you have facts that they don't have, or much more insight to this type of thing than they do. I'm sure if you called them and told them what you've told us, they'd fly you in immediately for your expertise in the situation.:yay:

Wow.....argue over crap NO BODY has enough facts about to make a sound judgement on, much? At any rate, the cop was totally wrong. He should have maced her instead.

jag

If the cop didn't do anything wrong would he still been put on leave? And whats with the act of arresting anyways? If he was just there to caution her about watering her lawn, how does arresting her play a part in that? This is what I am talking about when I say you don't know all the facts.
And what I'm talking about is if there was something there that resulted in her needing to be arrested, then the scenario I gave is what probably happened. I never once said this officer acted properly, even as far as his reason for arrest in the first place.

Why use mace when you have a gun?

And again, no matter what you type now, it's clear to everyone else you were jumping in to defend the cop. So please, stop playing dumb.
No, as I have clearly stated, I'm not defending nor condemning him in any way. Perhaps instead of callig someone else dumb, you should develop some comprehension skills that have clearly been demonstrated you are lacking in this thread. It doesn't really look good for you to call someone else dumb when you've been the 'dumbest' person in this thread.

Is it fun in Bizarro World?

**** like this goes to show this country is not as free as we like to think.

We get visits from the cops about not watering our lawn? Seriously?

Exactly jks. I'm glad you put that word "probably" in bold, because thats exactly the point all along. Probably, might have, maybe, it makes no difference, you don't know, I don't know. People were judging something that they didn't know all the facts, and you were doing the same, except you had the other side of it. It doesn't make you right or wrong, because no one here knows. You were doing the same thing others were doing but coming down on them about it, thus being hypocritical. Thank you for your cooperation officer, glad we got to the bottom of this together.

I would venture to say that she has probably received at least 5 notices in the mail, probably a few phone calls, and visits from the city, and or neighborhood committee...I doubt that someone called the police and they just showed up......NOW I could be wrong, but in cases similar to this that I know of, thats usually the procedure....

What I find really bad is.....you have an elderly woman, that "very easily" could be having problems paying her utilities, or possibly cannot afford to clean her yard up.....and it gets to THIS situation, before someone steps in to help........................ THAT to me shows what the country has become much more than a cop overstepping the bounds.

Uhh, I live on earth...you know, the real world...where people actually get off the internet enough to where they don't accumulate almost 50,000 posts on an internet message board.....

I'm sure once you grow up, you'll realize that in the real world, resorting to elementary insults just because someone shot down a point you were trying to make is an embarrassing tactic aand only serves to degrade your being even more.

LOL!

As opposed to talking down to someone who is younger than you because you clearly got a little embarrassed. Yes, i have much to learn from you.

Uhh, I know, go back and read my first 2 posts.....

I never claimed to.
People were judging something that they didn't know all the facts, and you were doing the same, except you had the other side of it.
No, as my posts prove if you'd read them, I used experience to judge what probably happened based on what we do know, NOT condemn or defend him based on what we do not know.
It doesn't make you right or wrong, because no one here knows. You were doing the same thing others were doing but coming down on them about it, thus being hypocritical.
As has been explained numerous times, I did not judge the officer at all. No condemnation, no defense. Just an educated guess in layman's terms based on what we know.
Thank you for your cooperation officer, glad we got to the bottom of this together.
Yes, thank you for finally understanding what I've been saying all along, lol.

Dude you said not to blame the officer. It was pointed out before.

Have you not been paying attention? Clearly there is no room for level-headed logic in this thread. Please delete your post and leave. :oldrazz:

Please explain to me how your logic works that says I got embarrassed because I shot down everypoint you made. Please explain how you getting angry enough at that to resort to juvenile insults embarrasses me.
Yes, i have much to learn from you.
Yes, you've eloquently displayed that you could, lol.

Now please, instead of continuing to whine and insult because your point was defeated, lets stay on the topic.

The lady should get the chair. But not death, a little jolt here and there.

I'm angry?

I said dont blame the officer for going there to confront her about not watering her lawn, but to blame the people who put that on the books. Whatever he did or did not do after that had no bearing on that statement. That statement was just about how inane some laws are.

I can't believe people are responding to this by saying things life "f#ck the police." Did any of you stop to think about how this whole situation probably went down? From what the article says, it sounds like the woman was being extremely difficult and at the very least knew that she was making a conscious effort to avoid answering to the police officer. How or why she was hit in the face is anyone's guess, it's very possible that the cop was trying to arrest her because she wouldn't give her name and a struggle ensued because she tried to walk away from him (I have no idea if this is any kind of standard procedure, but it sure could have been avoided if she had just cooperated). If that happened, it's still up in the air weather the cop used excessive force, but I'd say it's more likely that he didn't. In situations like this, even though the woman probably wasn't any serious threat to the cop, a police officer has no obligation to try and make his forceful arrest as painless as possible, because he is in danger himself if the person is trying to get away. The whole thing could easily be the fault of the woman. Just the same, the cop could have been using excessive and unnecessary force. But really, why would a cop hit a woman in the face with his handcuffs for no reason? It doesn't sound like she had a serious gash in her face, just a cut. If the cop actually beat her in the face with his handcuffs, the injury would be far greater. Picture a guy trying to hit you in the face with handcuffs in order to only create a small to medium sized cut. It makes no sense. To me, it seems more likely that she was struggling while he was trying to handcuff her and in the struggle the handcuffs and her face met. Hell, her face could have hit the handcuffs rather than the other way around. This is just my opinion, but from what we know it seems that the woman is more at fault than the police officer that she ended up injured at all, although he may have been wrong in trying to arrest her in the first place.

Policeofficer>than 70 year old woman.....

THAT is the point I get....and besides.....WHAT WOULD IT HAVE HURT, to let her go back into her house, make his notes, and send a (female officer, older officer, call his supervisor) ANYTHING, why was it so damn imperative that he arrest her AT THAT VERY MOMENT....she was a fleeing felon? OOOOH WAIT, yeah they have alot of fires in Utah right now because of the lack of rain, I guess her lawn was considered a weapon?......since there is no talk of a weapon, apparently she didn't have one...

Facts...
#1. All of this over a lawn...
#2. 70 year old lady...

My opinion, not a big ****ing deal considering what else we have running around our cities these days......
