Well, apparently he had credibility and was respected *before* he sold out and started making crappy records that the record company wanted.
He's admitted himself he sold out, he said he was broke, in a desperate situation, maybe even sleeping in his car iirc, and that when a person comes along with a big check like that for you, that you just have to sign to get out of that desperate situation, that many would have done so. Personally, I think it would be a fool who would be so quick to judge themselves above that, until they themselves are put in a similar situation.

Just saying that the guy may not be devoid of talent, it was just that he sold it out.

As for 'VIIB', I did not know the Queen/Bowie song when it was released, so quite liked it, went off it a bit when i heard under pressure and compared them. But, I don't know, maybe i would like it more than under pressure these days, kind of sick of hearing that song.
They were quite sneaky about sampling it i read, something like it skirted the legal amount of similarity or whatever, but Queen won the lawsuit iirc.
I don't recall any other records of his at all apart from 'sleepin in my car'..

At the time he claimed to be a kid from the hood and even wrote an auto-biography. But he was just a typical middle class white kid. Normally people would just laugh about it but this was around the time of the Milli Vanilli scandal, so people took it seriously and got pissed at Vanilla Ice. That's how the whole backlash started. He tried to defuse the controversey by doing Ninja Rap, a song for kids, and the Cool As Ice movie. But it backfired on them. Although Ninja Rap is nostalgic for people who were kids at the time. If you were a child at the time you associate Vanilla Ice more for that song than Ice Ice Baby.
