Video Game Bashing

...And the research will be revealed to prove that there are no effects and no correlaton between video games and massacres and the courts will turn any potential ban down.

you're missing my point, this is not an official ban. this is mob mentality. no official law was ever given. its small town mentality. its the idea of a group banning something within they're community.

look into the film childs play 3 it was linked by the media to the murder of a child named james bulger

the media latched onto the fact the video was in the house of one of the murderers and even though it was proven they had never scene it there was a huge backlash and many believed the film to have been banned, when it was just the case of no outlet would carry it out of fear, of being crucified.

thats my point. this is not an official law but a small group of people trying to push they're agenda on a larger group. they are just dressing it up by offering people money for giving up the games.

its the exact same as people burning the beatles albums in the 60's

this is my point, no one is thinking this whole "games for destruction" is a blanket ban, but the idea that this is happening and could catch on with more community's is extremely scary

wow anyone else terrified by this, seriously this is just a nicer version of book burning

Its just a small town giving in to mob mentality. This won't take hold, and things will stay the same. Besides, if I already own my games, there shouldn't be any right for them to get taken from me, which I guess is the right gun owners have too. Regardless, people will forget about this eventually and games will continue. Not to mention, if violent games end up on the chopping block, I feel we'd have another SOPA situation on our hands, and get gamers out in force.

When I watched Wayne LaPierre's NRA statement, I rolled my eyes. I'm an NRA member and obviously, I own guns and I felt that him blaming movies and video games was ignorant and passing the buck. I was emabrassed that he would say that because him saying that movies and video games are to blame was no different than the media and politicians saying guns are to blame.
If movies and video games truly caused mass murderers, then there would be millions of murderers running around. I've played the standard violent games like Doom, RE, Halo, Mortal Kombat and Call of Duty and not once did I feel compelled to go out and want to go shoot people. As I'm sure the millions of my fellow gamers feel the same way. Just like gamers don't want to be lumped in with this kind of BS, people who own guns, even AR15's or any semi automatic rifle doesn't want to be lumped in with the acts of a handful of individuals.
I play violent games to unwind. I watch violent action movies and horror movies to relax and be entertained. I shoot my AR rifles to get out some frustration and to try to be a marksman. The same thrills people get from completed 100% of a game, I get from hitting a small target at 200 yards. It's a sense of accomplishment.
I felt the NRA overstepped the line with calling out video games. It's stupid.

People want to blame something and never blame themselves for their own failures.

I grew up playing the games, reading the Punisher (obsessed Punisher fan), watching movies and not once did I ever feel like going out and mowing people down. People need to take responsibility for their own actions.

I got Duke Nukem Time to Kill when I was six and I ended up fine.

Though I have huge affinity for strip clubs. :o

And nothing more came of it. No one banned the beatles or Rock, and no one banned violent horror movies so you're worrying over nothing. Why?

This, and like I said, research and science will come in disprove any wild notions that would completely kill the argument for such bannings to take place. Because of that, the first amendment comes into place and makes it impossible because in order for it to be banned, it would have to cause a clear and present danger.

I'm not surprised so many want to blame video games for our social issues. They do that because it's easy...because they believe it's a quick "fix". A good way of hiding the problems under the rug in order to deal with the symptoms rather than the disease.

At the very least, I may be dumpster diving in the future. :hehe:

I love it when the media has to be cliche and blame games like Mortal Kombat and Grand Theft Auto.

How about blaming Super Mario Bros. or Final Fantasy instead, you *****es?

I am curious to see what these bozos would reply to a question like "What video game influenced Hitler to kill millions?"

You know, I wonder what people blamed on psychotic behavior before video games?

Actually back in the day, it was music (rock, rap, etc), and movies to a lesser extent. Video games didn't become controversial until the early 90's, with games like Mortal Kombat.

I think holograms will be the next thing to blame.

You know...I keep thinking of things that used to amuse people in various eras and they are just as violent as any video game but no one was as rabid about decrying violence as Soccer Moms and PTA Dads. At least the violence in video games is simulated. Back in Roman times people got their entertainment from real violence and gore.

The media has truly gone downhill in recent years. There was a time when Edward R. Murrows and the like, were trying to get the TRUTH to the audience. Not the hyperbole trash we're fed everyday.

The media going downhill way before that, like when William Random Hearst abused his powers of the newspaper to his favor. That's how marijuana got banned in the first place was because of his media campaign against it.

My favorite comment on the video game blame was on Twitter during the NRA press conference last month.

"I played a lot of Mario Kart as a kid, that's why I'm always throwing bananas out of my car."

:funny:

You ever think though that someday we'll have those holograms projected on bases, so to speak, so if someone wants to hurt someone, they could beat the hell out of the hologram and not have to turn to real violence...I'm probably completely wrong, but it is an idea...

Um.....holograms aren't solid.

SCIENCE! :oldrazz:
