All of Half-Life 2. I mean, I was expecting a lot coming from Valve, but WOW! They blew my mind back in '04.

Opening to Dead Space. It wasn't so much a "Wow" of amazement as much one of "I didn't know I could store that much urine."

I didn't play Half-Life 2 until The Orange Box came out, and it was still mind blowing then.

It's still mind blowing now! Half Life 2 plays and looks like most modern games and it's 8 years old. That's the sign of a good game.

It is still a pretty good looking game, but more than that, Half-Life 2 just does things that no other games even attempt. The people at Valve are truly masters of their craft and probably the best story tellers in the game industry.

Okay well I'll just do a few otherwise I'll be here all day.

Well first off, say what you want about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots but
returning to Shadow Moses... the moment you first catch a glimpse of the heliport and 'The Best is Yet to Come' starts playing... unequaled in any game I've ever played before. That was the culmination of 10 years-worth of playing, waiting for and loving Metal Gear all wrapped up into one tiny 5 minute bundle. Incredible.

I think in the original Fallout when I first switched Bloody Mess on and then watching the first, once-insignificant NPC get turned into bloody bits that you could actually study to see bits of bone and guts lying around... that was a big moment for me.

It's hard to pick just one moment from the original Half Life but I'll never forget how much I jumped out of my skin the first time I met a headcrab in a ventilation shaft.

Same sort of thing for Shadow of the Colossus, though I guess the emotional peak there for me was
watching my horse fall off the cliff and believing that it was... just... gone. It had been taken away from me and I wouldn't see it again.

As a huge Metroid fan I'd have to say that Super Metroid's opening moments are perfect... and then just the same with Metroid Prime. Those games are real masterpieces, just totally incredible.

Hitting the Great Sea in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for the first time is the best feeling that series has ever evoked in me. Roaming around that place with the music proudly humming overhead and the wind carrying you away... pretty amazing.

Again, I could pick a million moments from my favorite game of all time, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater but The End sniper battle probably takes it. That was a 2-hour affair on my first go.

The Chronos battle in God of War III is utterly incredible to play too.

Now Dark Souls... beating any boss is a moment that belongs on this list but for me the first time I teamed up with a co-op partner and took on the Gaping Dragon? Amazing. Those fleeting few moments you have at the end to express your gratitude by bowing or leaping for joy are just one of the many, many moments that define that game.

Okay, and then there's Uncharted. And without listing a hundred thousand things let's just go...

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
climbing to the top of the U-boat cliff, the jeep set piece, the monster reveal, the boat ending.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
The cliff-hanger opening, the Nepal helicopter fighter, the entire train sequence, Drake getting shot, the ice caves, Shambala.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Pub fight, Drake getting shot (again), young Drake, burning Chateau, Yemen market fight, boat set piece, plane set piece, desert section, horse set piece

And Uncharted in general... any time you hit cover just before that last bullet kills you, or the last round in the chamber kills the heavily-armored shotgun dude, or going from punching one guy to blasting that guy to snapping that guys neck in quick succession and...

Oh too many to count, I love Uncharted :)

Everything about kingdom hearts 2 ,for me, was amazing

For me:

The first game I played was an old Mario game, the only characters I knew, were Mario, Luigi and Bowser. Then in the second level of one of the games breaking Yoshi's egg. To me, that was mind-blowing. I could ride a dinosaur that could eat people.

The train set piece in Uncharted 2.

The plane set piece in Uncharted 3.

Fighting Zeus in God of War III.

Liquid crashing Arsenal Gear into Manhattan.

The opening cutscene of Batman: Arkham Asylum.

The death Johnny Gat.

Ocelot in MGS 3.

Collapse of the Eiffel Tower in MW3, the death of Ghost and Roach in MW2.

And now then, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots.

Seeing Old Snake, Snake was the first true videogane hero that I had truly felt as if I owned partially, because of devotion to the character. And I saw him dying, it was a shock to the system for me.

Meryl and Naomi, not because I was that happy with their roles, they fulfilled exactly what they were there to do. But the nostalgia factor was nigh orgasmic.

Return of Raiden. I always loved Raiden, because he was a character that I could relate to, like him I was in awe of Snake, and seeing his return, destroying several Gekko and the fight with Vamp.

Liquid, oh, Liquid....... "BROTHER!" the quintessential, outburst of the series.

Seeing Snake cradling his mothers dead body, after he finally tried to reach out to comfort someone.

Getting to pilot Metal Gear REX!

Fox.... DIE!!!!! Think Again!

Snake in the microwave corridor, button mashing has never been that emotional.

The fight with Liquid/Ocelot.

Snake putting the gun in his mouth and... BANG!

Seeing Big Boss and reconciling with him as he died.

The Ending of Half-Life 2: Episode 2: Friggin' cliffhangers! :cmad:

Ending of Modern Warfare 2: Once again, friggin' cliffhangers... But atleast I felt happy with this one as I killed that bastard Shepard!

Ending of Red Dead Redemption- :(

Ending of Batman: Arkham City: So many twists and turns!

Returning to Shadow Moses in MGS4 and returning to Installation 04 in Halo 3 were both really cool moments.

Assassin's Creed II's ending had me talking for days. I just couldn't believe it.

2nd ending?

There is a final, optional, mission to do after the first ending. It's extremely easy to miss. I bet a good 50% or more of the people who finished the game never even saw it. But, it caps the game off so well and gives RDR one of the best game endings ever.

I missed it until a friend told me about it.

Seeing the world of Oblivion stretch out in front of me during "Elder Scrolls".

Leaping out of an exploding helicopter and ziplining to a gigantic hotel in midair, all in one swift move during Just Cause 2.

Hearing Cohen's masterpiece and seeing his decadent, psychotic stage in Bioshock.

Liberating Epona in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (also seeing Death Mountain for the first time)

The Matrix level in Conker's bad fur day.

-Have to agree with Half-Life 2

-Ending of Arkham City

-Opening of Final Fantasy VII

-Hugo Strange trailer for Arkham City and the first trailer for ME3. Also the first Dead Island trailer(i haven't even played the game though).

-When you ride to see Marston's family for the first time in Red Dead Redemption, while the song (i think it's called The Compass) plays. I don't know why, but that was just amazingly emotional.

-When i actually manage to beat someone in any fighting game online :oldrazz:

I have one "wow" gaming moment that was more than likely totally unintentional on the developers part and it came at the end of GTA IV.
Sp

Roman was dead and the final mission completed. I had done all the side missions and collected anything worth collecting. I (as Niko) sat in my apartment with nothing to do. Roman was dead, Kate wouldn't talk to me. The map of Liberty City felt so large and yet so empty. Instead of just feeling bored and turning the game off, I felt an intense feeling of loneliness and apathy. I had been through this all with Niko and I, like him had fought to gain the American dream and was left with a feeling of emptiness and a burning question of "what was it all for?"

I don't know if Rockstar ever intended that to happen or it was just my own intepretation but it left me emotionally quite shaken, more so than any other game.

Red Dead Redemption has a ton of emotional and jaw-droppingly beautiful moments....hell, even just roaming the countryside at random. No other video game has ever given me the kind of emotional resonance that one does. As a fer instance, I vividly recall one point where I was alone on horseback up in the snowy mountains hunting for bear, and night had just fallen, and a massive thunderstorm began brewing. I just sat there for a minute, listening to the wind howl and watching the trees sway ominously in the sudden breeze, hearing wolves howl off in the distance and it was an absolutely stunning, emotional moment. Goosebumps.

Call of Duty has produced quite a few jaw-dropping cinematics, too, both in WWII and MW. The Eiffel Tower collapse is an instant classic, but I also remember being blown away by seeing Washington in ruins in the first MW.

Also from the first COD:MW, I don't think *anything* will ever top the scene with the nuke. There's been plenty of copycats since then, but at the time, it was a totally shocking WTF moment. I didn't know whether to be outraged at the game devs, or elated, or shocked, or ecstatic. So I kinda went for all of that balled into one. Better'n sex.

The revenge ending?

Call of duty 4 was definitely the best one

I didn't think the nuclear explosion was all that impressive, maybe because it was in all the trailers. The ending of Call of Duty 4 though, was amazing. All your comrades are getting blown away, everything's falling apart, then Nikolai distracts Zakaev just long enough for Price to slide you his pistol...incredible.

It wasn't just the explosion that made it so powerful and emotional, of course --- it was the fact that you just lost your character, your hero. Irretrievably. With no warning. It's a fairly common occurrence nowadays in games, but I don't recall that *ever* happening in the middle of a game before. Even to this day, most of the main character switcheroos (mainly in Rockstar games) happen in the final act instead of the midpoint of the story.

This, very much this. I was surprised at the bomb going off. I was friggin' rocked to the core by the end. It stayed with me for weeks.
