Are we sure it's Jessica Jones next?
In all of Marvel's official press releases its been Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, in that order.
Are we sure it's Jessica Jones next?
He'll probably be fighting some business rivals or some challenger. It's unlikely to be DD just yet. They would want to show just how much of a threat he is before actually pitting him against Murdock.
And it looks like we will be getting to see other DD villains quite soon from the sound of his interview.
They often don't shoot scenes sequentially.
Might be that they shoot one of the last scenes first for whatever reason.
Like scheduling, might be that D'Onofrio needs to have all his scenes shot without the first few weeks due to other engagements, stuff like that.
I saw this movie Fire by Fire last night in which D'Onofrio plays a mob boss or similar and I gotta say, judging from that performance I am pretty sure we are gonna get a great Kingpin from him.
Also, did you know he was Edgar in Men in Black??![]()

It’s hard not to be intimidated by Vincent D’Onofrio's size, which he's made formative use of throughout his impressive career. Whether he was shaking down perverted criminals during his 10-season run as Detective Robert Goren on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, or playing the athletically-challenged Leonard "Gomer Pyle" Lawrence in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, the landmark role for which he gained 70 pounds. Since wrapping on Criminal Intent, he’s managed to spend some time behind the camera, most recently on Mall, schedule to be released on October 17th. He wrote the screenplay along with two friends, then, as producer, got the script into the hands of Joe Hahn, who will make his silver screen directorial debut, though it's not his first time behind the camera. Hahn has worked on video projects for his band, Linkin Park, and Vincent said of his work, “Joe's very honest on set and he sees the full scene happening. I liked that.”
D’Onofrio isn’t planning to quit acting anytime soon, though. At this very moment he’s preparing to show off his commanding presence as iconic villain Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, in the comic-based Netflix series Daredevil, the first of many promised collaborations between the streaming juggernaut and Marvel Studios. Standing in his presence in a room of the Roosevelt Hotel in New York, head shaved, black blazer draped on his broad shoulders, we can attest to the authenticity of his embodiment.
Now that I have you in a good mood, let’s talk about Daredevil.
Filming has been great. I can’t really talk about specifics. Really. But I can tell you it’s all working. It’s all gritty. Everything is really impressive. They seem to know what they’re doing over at Marvel. I think ever since Downey and [Jon] Favreau did Iron Man and proved that comic book movies could be really cool they’ve just embraced that and taken it to the next level. They keep knocking it out of the park. This Netflix series that we’re filming right now, it’s going to be so amazing to watch. We’re doing these incredible, iconic scenes every single day. I have the best character; I play one of the best characters I’ve read in a long time. I haven’t had this much fun with a role for many years.
How much did you know about the character before signing on?
I knew a bit about Wilson Fisk. I had seen the movies. I saw other interpretations. But for this, they really wanted everything to be fresh. They’re operating like they have been doing their movies. I’m finding most of my inspiration for Fisk coming from the old artwork, artists like Frank Miller.
Your new friend Downey must have been very excited you got the role.
He was thrilled. My wife actually texted him a photo of me dressed as Kingpin and we got a very, very excited text back.
I look forward to the Iron Man versus Kingpin crossover happening very soon.
[Laughs.] It’s not impossible! They have all kind of plans. I think this Daredevil show is going to be the start of some very exciting crossovers.
I like the look. How long do you have live like that?
I actually don’t mind it, it’s kind of nice. But until December, we shoot. For the first 13 [episodes].
It’s surprising you and Robert Downey Jr. hadn’t crossed paths before.
We were surprised, too. Basically we’re the same generation of actor. I remember, I told him this story when we first met. I was sitting in a movie theater watching “Chaplin” — I’m a little older than him, but he started acting before I did — and I turned to my best friend and said, “Man, if this guy can do this, I’m f—ing done for.” I was so amazed by his talent. You know, he’s an extraordinary guy, Mr. Downey. I consider him a close friend now, we’ve become good friends. We’ve talked about it, that we wish that we had worked together in the past. But there’s plenty of time now.
Did you and Downey make any reference to your work as “Thor” in “Adventures in Babysitting,” seeing as how he plays Iron Man?
Yeah. Yeah, a lot. (laughs) We’re both part of the Marvel thing now. It’s a big world, that world. It’s awesome. Actually, when I was considering playing [Kingpin], I asked his advice. I trust his opinion. As far as the Marvel machine, it’s pretty impressive. Never mind how much business they do and blah blah blah, that’s a whole other world. I’m not really in that world. But creatively they’re just completely on top of it.
How has it been coming back to film after being on “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” for so long?
I’m glad that I’m doing films again. I’m really, really, really enjoying myself. And when you work for Netflix, it’s like doing a giant film. I don’t feel like I’m back in the television business or anything, because it’s basically a 13-hour movie.
It is fascinating the way television is morphing that way, with things like “True Detective” and “House of Cards.”
Yeah, the whole world has changed. I wish that it had changed about 10 years earlier, but are you going to do?
